I have the XM4's and would say they are on par and if you don't have the cash for the latest and greatest these will be more than adequate to the task.

Fantastic sound in a small package

Crystal clear audio and I've been able to go more than 8 hours of music listening before charging. The range has been surprising as well.

The noise blocking feature is great for sensory purposes. I find them comfortable to wear and they stay in my ear really well. Excellent... if you can handle in ear earbuds

Incredible noise cancellation, and with the Sony Companion App, you can easily adjust the EQ to your liking. Connection is strong as well. However, I had a hard time finding a comfortable fit, and after about 30 minutes of listening I would experience ear fatigue. I'm sure this is a function of my ear, and not the product, but just something to be aware of when deciding whether to buy.

The gestures are a little confusing but you get use to it. Calls are clear very comfortable to use, but like anything buy the extended warranty specially for wireless earbuds its a no brainer

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for an ear earbud type headphone I could pair to my phone, TV, computer, stereo, etc. and this isn't the one. After spending an hour chatting with a Sony support tech (who was great by the way), we finally figured out these aren't what I thought. I wish he was wrong because they have a great sound. The good news: great sound and a nice fit in the ear. The bad news: #1: No volume adjustment on the headphones. Really? You have to be able to adjust the volume from the device they are paired with. This is fine if you are paired to your phone but when paired to the TV, the TV volume doesn't affect the headphone volume because the TV works so people like me, who are hard of hearing, can turn the sound up on the headphones, and the other people in the room...well can stay in the room. #2: Since you can't adjust the volume via the headphones, whatever you are listen to, stay close to the volume control or be prepared for deafening (all-be-it amazing quality) sound should there be a sound spike. #2: Yes, they evidently can pair to 9 devices at a time, but they have to be phones. So, the handy 'Switch to another device' option is only handy if you are sharing the ear buds with 9 other phones? Consequently, if you want to switch between the phone and the TV or the stereo or whatever, you have to pair the headphones to the other devices manually EVERY time. So nice sound, nice fit, bad volume and pairing design and I’m returning them.

It occasionally drops for a second while streaming from Samsung phone (an issue that does not happen with my Bose headphones or Galaxy buds) The battery life is good, once you figure out the right settings. And I HATE the voice interrupting to tell me the battery is at 20%, 15%, battery low. Ultimately, I gave to my son who does like them.

Try the following:
• For Bluetooth connection issue: The WF-1000XM3 has a new Bluetooth chip and an optimized antenna design to provide a stable connection for hours of wireless streaming. To ensure you get the best Bluetooth connection, please set the headphones Bluetooth Connection Mode to “Priority on stable connection”
-Change the position or location of the unit or connected device.
-If the connected device has a cover on it, take it off to improve the communication distance.
-If the connected device is in a bag or in a pocket, try moving the position of the device.
-Place the devices closer together to improve signal transmission

These hit those marks and more. One thing that I particularly like is the ability to set the earbuds in different modes such as ambient sound, noise canceling, and standard. The ambient sound setting lets me wear the earbuds at work and still be able to hear when someone walks into my office.

Sony made a high quality and very competitive product and so far, i have no regrets. I have even went as far as utilizing this earbuds in the gym. Although there is not an IPX rating for them, so far all my sweating and moisture have not affected or slowed them down. This was a very good purchase!

Off Balance solution....

Luckily I discovered that the hearing aid app on my phone was off balance. I do not use hearing aids but my phone has built in adjustments in case you have hearing aids. The buds do not have balance control so if you have the same problem check that. I didnt see this solution anywhere on the SONY site or troubleshooting posts.

The WF-1000XM3 comes with different sizes of earbuds to ensure there is a great fit for all ear sizes and an optimal noise canceling experience. Please use the right size according to the size of your ears. When wearing them, please gently pull on the top of your ear as you twist the earbud into your ear.
