    XM4 has better sound, bass, and noice cancellation. Only bought these because they were on sale and my XM4 battery life doesnt hold through a full workout

    Malfunction after a year

    [Employee of bestbuy] I use them every other day to listen to stuff while I work and after around a year of use they start to automatically connect to my phone when they're in my pocket, they don't dock properly--which causes them to run out of battery while they aren't in use, and the case seems pretty poorly made, it doesn't seem to close right and just putting it in your pocket just seems to damage it (i usually have them in jean pockets that aren't tight, just fit) I'll probably swap to samsung earbuds next time. Also the previous model would run out of battery in minutes from full charge after a year so I hope it doesn't happen with these.

    Eartips wear out and you can’t get replacements

    The eartips are memory foam. They wear out after about 6 months of regular use and you cannot buy original replacements, they are continually out of stock. You can get knock offs elsewhere that don’t have the filter screen, but if you want the originals you’re at the mercy of Sony and they’ll only send one pair of replacements and after that they’ll direct you to the product page where you can buy them, where they have been out of stock for the last several months. They said there is some outside factor, I have previously had Airpods pro and bose earbuds and never had the problem because they are coated in silicone

    AWFUL Ambient sound noise outdoors, not worth $300

    AWFUL Ambient sound setting; when using ambient sound setting for outdoor exercise on the trails (so you can hear cars and others using the trail..) the mic placement is bad, so it amplifies wind noise so much you can't hear the music and have to take them out of your ears. Bad design Sony. Indoors theyre no better than my old Galaxy Buds 2, so dont burn $300 on something that is useless outside (noise cancelling or 'off' setting is dangerous and stupid because you need to be able to hear oncoming traffic and earbuds obviously plug your ears..). Going to shop a few others but definitely DO NOT buy these for outdoor use.

Depending on the surrounding environment, wind noise may increase when the Ambient Sound Mode is turned on. In this case, set the Ambient Sound Mode to OFF. Turn off the Ambient Sound Mode by tapping the touch sensor on the left headset unit to switch off the Ambient Sound Mode. This should help reduce the wind noise. Please make sure the headset is worn correctly in your ears. Twist the headset to fit it properly, as an improper fit can affect the performance of the Ambient Sound Mode.     Ear tips dont fit

    I haved owned the XM4s for two years, and just purchased the 5’s. None of the included tips will create a proper seal in my ears (as confirmed by Sony’s software). Without a tight seal, sound quality is really bad. There appears to be no options, as Sony doesnt make xl tips, and I cant find anything acceptable online. Looks like these are getting returned, which is unfortunate.

      For optimum fit and comfort, make sure that you are wearing the headphones properly. Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The most suitable size of the earbud tips for left and right ears may be different.     These weren’t for me. For the price I expected a better fit and a better feel in the quality. Sound quality was good but again not something I can tell the difference with compared to others. I’d increase the rating if the price was more in line with AirPod pros.

    Not Worth the Price or Hassle

    After owning these earbuds for about 13 months, the left earbud suddenly stopped working (and I have been extremely careful not to damage them in any way). The volume dropped to almost nothing (even at max), switching to ambient sound mode causes static noise, and the usual sound feedback for touch controls disappeared. Noise cancelling still works, but overall the earbud is useless. Since it was just outside the 1-year warranty, Best Buy wouldn’t service it. Sony support redirected me to their third-party repair partner who doesn’t handle out-of-warranty products. After several calls with their partner, I was told it would cost $143.95 to replace just one earbud. At that price, it makes more sense to buy a brand-new pair of Beats or Apple earbuds. For a premium product at this price-point, I expected better long-term reliability and customer support. Based on this experience, I don’t plan to buy Sony audio products again - or any of their other products.

We realize that premium audio products come with certain expectations for quality and long-term reliability, and your frustration with the cost and availability of out-of-warranty service is understandable.

      Regarding replacement and repair: For the WF-1000XM5, repairs or replacements (such as for one side of the earbuds) require both earbuds and the charging case to be sent to an Authorized Service Center, as these components are specifically paired for proper functionality. This means that simply ordering a standalone earbud is not possible, which contributes to the higher service cost. While the replacement fee you mentioned is accurate for out-of-warranty repairs, we recognize this can feel prohibitive compared to buying entirely new products from other brands.

      Even though your product is out of warranty, we always want to help as much as we can. Our standard procedure for products outside the warranty period is to direct customers to our authorized service partners who provide paid repair and replacement services. While we don’t currently have a formal goodwill or exception program for narrowly expired warranties for these models, your case illustrates an experience we strive to improve for our customers in the future.

      We value your feedback—it will be shared directly with our product and support teams so it can inform future improvements both in reliability and in service options. If you decide you’d like further assistance, or to discuss your case, please let us know so we can review your situation in greater detail to see if there are any additional support avenues available.

    Don’t like the fit. Feels like they’re always going to fall out sometimes they do. I can hear sound from the background and all around. Would rather just stick with AirPods.
