To address some of these points and hopefully help you get a better experience, here are a few things we recommend:

-Use the Sony | Sound Connect app to double-check that your earbud's firmware is fully updated.

-Since you mentioned discomfort and insufficient volume/NC, we really recommend trying all the earbud sizes that came in the box. A proper and sealed fit is crucial for both comfort and getting the full effect of the sound quality and noise canceling. Even if one size feels okay, trying the others might reveal a better seal.
