Comfortable with great sound and ANC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These Sony C710N ANC earbuds pretty much follow the standard form factor as most similar products do. They are housed in a compact case with a USB-C connection for charging, with the case providing a number of charge cycles for the earbuds before the case itself must be recharged. Since there is no real documentation that comes with them other than instructions to download the Sony Sound Connect app, that’s what you have to do to even find out how the controls work. After downloading the app, connecting the buds to my Android smartphone was super easy, as the earbuds went into pairing mode as soon as I took them out of the case and a notification immediately popped up on my phone offering to complete the process. One issue with some products is figuring out how to put them back into pairing mode so you can pair them with another device. Again, the Sony app comes into play. I had the earbuds connected to my phone and in the app selected the option to add another connection. The app put the earbuds into pairing mode – which was confirmed by voice thru the buds – and I proceeded to pair them with my Garmin smartwatch and start playing something from that device. The earbuds support having two source devices connected at the same time, so this was no problem. The buds are easy to fit and wear. They are the type where you can tell when they’re properly inserted because they fit right into the recess in your outer ear, as opposed to some that have no obvious directionality and require a lot of twisting around to get them in correctly. Once in place, they are comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, although I’m definitely not someone who goes around all day wearing my buds. The app has a number of help screens that explain how the earbuds can be controlled by taps on the left or right side. This brings me back to a point that I’ve brought up in other earbud reviews: every earbud brand has a slightly different mapping of taps for the same functionality, to the point where I have to maintain a cheat-sheet to remind me of how each one works. That said, the tap points operate well and seem to have fewer mis-taps than some other earbuds that I’ve used. The app can also be used to change some of the tap functionality, which I’ve done to more closely match the other earbuds that I regularly use. Soundwise, these are pretty well up there with anything at this price point or even a bit higher. A good deal of tuning can be done via the app, which I highly recommend especially if you like some bass boost. The ANC helps considerably and I would rate the ANC performance as very good, but not as good as my current “gold standard” Pixel Buds. Again, using a tap sequence, you can switch between ANC and hear-through modes, and some of this can also be customized using the app. In summary, I found these to be as good or better than any other offerings at the price they sell for. There are better options out there but you’ll have to spend double or more to get them.

Posted .Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear you're having trouble with the call volume on your WF-C710N earbuds. We're here to help and would be happy to provide some troubleshooting steps to get this resolved.
-Connect your earbuds to the Sony | Sound Connect app on your phone to see if there are any available firmware updates.
-Reset the earbuds: Set the headset units into the charging case and leave the charging case lid open. Press and hold the reset button on the back of the charging case for about 20 seconds or more. After about 15 seconds, the indicator on the charging case flashes in orange for about 5 seconds. Check that the indicator turns off and then release your finger.

Posted .Thank you for sharing your feedback, MarTay.
We are very sorry to hear about the disappointing experience you are having with your WF-C710N earbuds, specifically regarding the sound quality, the intermittent cutouts in cold weather, and the performance of the noise canceling. This is certainly not the reliable audio experience we intend to deliver.
We would like to help you improve your experience:
Noise Canceling: The WF-C710N model uses Digital Noise Canceling. To get the best performance, ensuring you are using the correct size earbud tips (to create a perfect seal) is crucial. Also, check the Sony | Headphones Connect app to make sure the Noise Canceling feature is activated and not set to Ambient Sound mode.
Audio Cutouts: Intermittent audio can often be related to Bluetooth interference or connection stability, which can sometimes be affected by external factors like temperature. Please ensure the earbuds have the latest firmware update via the app, as these updates often improve connection stability and overall performance.
We want to help you resolve these issues so you can enjoy the reliable performance you expect from Sony. Please contact our support team directly at https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=headphones. Our specialists can guide you through specific troubleshooting steps, which may include performing a reset or checking your fit, to significantly improve your sound and stability.
We regret that the WF-C710N hasn't met your expectations in this instance, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention and thank you for choosing Sony.

We truly appreciate your honest feedback and will make sure to share your comments with our team as we continue to improve our products. Thank you for considering Sony! Best regards, -Dominick

Posted .Hi RBAL,
We're genuinely sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with the WF-C710N earbuds, especially the difficulties with pairing, the shorter-than-advertised battery life, and the less effective ANC when used with your iPhone 15 Pro. We understand how disappointing it is when a product doesn't meet expectations.
To address these issues, we recommend trying a few troubleshooting steps: first, a simple reset of the earbuds, the instructions are listed in the link below:
https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/2986/v1/en/contents/TP1001829718.html
Also, ensure your earbuds' software is up to date via the Sony | Headphones Connect app; and if issues persist, perform an initialization to restore factory settings. If you don't know how to do it, you can find the details here: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/2986/v1/en/contents/TP1001829717.html
The factory reset often resolves connectivity glitches. We truly appreciate your feedback as we continuously strive to improve our products and user experience.
Thanks for considering Sony.

Posted .Hello Rodney,
Thank you for considering Sony products.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced with the WF-C710N earbuds not staying securely in your ears, even with the largest earbud tips. Your comfort and enjoyment are very important to us.
To help improve the fit and ensure a more secure and comfortable experience, please try these steps:
Adjust the Earbud Position: Insert the earbuds and gently rotate them until the headphone section sits horizontally in your ear. This often helps achieve a better, more stable fit.
Ensure Proper Installation: When attaching the earbud tips, make sure they are fitted straight and not at an angle. Proper alignment can prevent detachment and keep the earbuds securely in place.

Affordable ANC Earbuds
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony’s latest affordable earbuds with ANC is here and it’s the successor to the previous model that came before it. While I do not have a direct comparison between those two, what I can compare is whether this is a cheaper alternative to their flagship 1000XM5 earbuds. There are two included pairs of ear tips to ensure the best fit for your ears. As I have small ears, I have opted to use the smaller size tips in order to give these buds a test run. However, as a personal preference, I felt using the silicone ear tips to be a tad uncomfortable and disorienting. The strange feeling of plugging the ears that is akin to feeling a difference in air pressure is something I cannot get used to. It’s probably one of the reasons why I have preferred regular headphones or earbuds with a foam tip. The earbud design is unremarkable to be honest. There’s nothing that stands out other than its matte surface, a world of difference between it and the flagship 1000XM5 which has a glossy/smooth finish. It makes taking out the buds from its case easier than a gloss/smooth finish. Controls are touch sensitive and their functions can be customized using the Sound Connect app. I run a personal curated playlist of music songs to test out new earbuds and headphones. From the short times that I’ve listened through these earbuds, I find that the sound is quite good. While it does lean in on the bass for that extra low frequency punch, it isn’t to the level where it’s detrimental to the listening experience. With a bit of tuning with the EQ, you can tone down the bass to have a more neutral level sound. I might dare say that after tuning, it has the potential to sound better than the flagship brother. But there’s a bit of an asterisk to that. While I did say it has the potential to sound as good or better than the flagship, the codec used for these earbuds is where there may be some unknown audible differences. On the 1000XM5, I have set the codec to LDAC. However, these earbuds do not support it and can only support AAC as the best codec. As for the ANC itself, it works well enough as earbuds. They don’t completely neutralize the surrounding sound unlike regular headphones. But it does reduce enough noise to make listening to your audio more enjoyable. Voice communication test was done via Discord and having a friend record our conversation for a short bit. Audio quality on that seems good enough but without the natural element of wind, I do not know if it’s good enough to prevent wind noise. So is there anything bad about these earbuds? It’s nitpicking and it’s just preference but I wish there were foam ear tips included to give the users options. But the really bad thing has to be the included USB cable. It’s stupidly short, a waste of materials, and pointless to include given the length. Sony has been doing this for years, even on their flagship models. All Sony is doing is adding e-waste by including a short USB cable. Yet after it’s all said and done, is it worth getting? If you’re looking for ANC earbuds on the cheap, then this is the one to get. It might be an even better value than the flagship 1000XM5 model given how good the sound is. Waiting a bit for a reliable 3rd party foam tip is also an option if you cannot tolerate the silicone ear tip. Verdict: Recommended The Good: Good sound, affordable price, has ANC The Bad: stupidly short USB cable The Ugly: the disorienting feeling of air pressure in your ears

Posted .Hi Issy25,
Thanks for the feedback and for the review. We are truly sorry to hear that you’re dealing with an echo and low volume on your WF-C710N.
To help fix these issues, here are a few simple things you can try:
-If the earbuds don't fit snugly in your ear canal, the sound can often feel thin or "weak." We recommend trying out the different sizes of earbud tips included in the box. A better seal usually brings back the bass and volume.
-If you hear an echo (especially during calls or while walking), it might be the Ambient Sound Mode or Adaptive Sound Control in the Sony | Sound Connect app. Try turning these off or lowering the level to see if the echo disappears.
-Reset the earbuds. For detailed instructions, please refer to the following resource.

Nice buds, requires app, cheap feeling case
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are nice earbuds with a lot of cool features, most of which can only be accessed by using an app you're asked to download. There's all kinds of features for them - noise cancellation, noise passthrough, switching what bluetooth device they're connected to on the fly, an equalizer, customizing functions of certain presses - all great stuff. Unfortunately, it's all locked behind an app. Of course, the app is free, there's no ads, and it's not enormous or anything, but I'm not particularly fond of needing to open an app to access certain necessary features. That said, the sound quality on these is excellent. I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile, so forgive me if my input isn't detailed enough, but the basses are present without being overwhelming, the mids are good, although get a little drowned out. That tends to happen because it's between the bass and treble though. The treble is also good. Music, in general, sounds excellent on these. They're also very comfortable to wear. Wore them for several hours without fatigue or discomfort - a problem for me with all kinds of earbuds, including Airpods Pro. One thing I'll note is that the pairing process was a little finnicky for me. It asks you to pair it through the app, but following its instructions, my phone couldn't find them. I had to close the app and restart, and also reseat the earbuds into the case, close it, and thten reopen it, in order for them to pair. That said, the issue didn't repeat once I paired it to other devices. Battery life is pretty solid. Not bad, not amazing. A little lower than I would have expected, perhaps. It dropped about 50% after a couple hours of usage. One final thing - the case feels cheap. The lid is plasticky, thin, and light. Not a big deal, but yeah, it immediately stood out to me. Overall, these are lovely earbuds, with a lot of excellent features. A few quirks, a few corners cut, but none where it matters most, in my opinion. Would definitely recommend these.

Posted .Thank you for sharing your feedback, Rollsroyce.
We are truly sorry to hear about the persistent and frustrating issue you are experiencing with your WF-C710N earbuds, specifically the unwanted and automatic switching between the Noise Canceling and Ambient Sound modes. We understand how disruptive this is to your listening experience, and we sincerely apologize that this flaw has led to your decision to return the product.
This kind of behavior is often caused by the Adaptive Sound Control feature being active in the Sony | Sound Connect app. When this setting is turned On, the earbuds automatically try to detect your activity (like walking or staying still) and switch the listening mode accordingly.
We would like to help you resolve this so you can enjoy the quality sound without interruption, even if you still plan to return them. To prevent the unwanted switching:
Disable Adaptive Sound Control: Open the Sony | Sound Connect app, go to the Adaptive Sound Control settings, and set it to Off.
Manual Setting: Manually set your preferred mode (Noise Canceling or Ambient Sound) within the app.
We regret that this experience has led you to lose trust in our brand, but we value your honest feedback as it is critical for us to improve the user experience and quality of our products.
