These headphones comes with different sizes of earbuds to ensure there is a great fit for all ear sizes and an optimal noise canceling experience. As a suggestion, to keep if from falling out on your ears while wearing the headphones, try to use the right size according to the size of your ears. When wearing them, please gently pull on the top of your ear as you twist the earbud into your ear and wait for about 10 seconds for the earbud tip shape to stabilize.This should give you a firmer hold and better noise canceling experience.The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app will also help you to determine which earbud tips are most suitable for you to achieve the optimal noise cancellation effect. "METAL PING" SOUND

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just got these earbuds a few days ago and right away i began to notice the "metal ping" sound when I close my teeth together or even on voice calls and on some music very subtlety. I do not hear the ping all the time unless closing my teeth together. Not chomping my teeth, closing my teeth. I thought I was getting a great deal, for $100 of why not right? Well if you have had any suspicion about these earbuds they are not unjustified. I want to like them, the noise cancelling is great, and the sound without the metal ping is great. But these should not have this problem and the fact that sony has not addressed it by now tells me its not something that will be fixed with a software update. It really seems like a problem in the build. Good luck if ypu decide to get them, not everyone has had this problem so its a gamble.

To eliminate the pinging sound, you should:
1. Turn off Adaptive Sound Control, or 2. Turn off “Notification Tone When Switching”
When the Adaptive Sound Control function is turned on, the headset detects the wearer's actions and adjusts the noise canceling function automatically. When this setting is changed, music may pause momentarily and an alert sound may be heard. This sound notifies you that the setting has been changed. If you want to deactivate this notification sound, use the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app to turn the setting off.

Fayal design flaw causes metalic sound

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Returned these after 2 days because of a terrible metalic noise coming from inside the earbuds whenever your teeth click together, jaw pops or you tap slightly on them. They also get the same metalic resonating tone when you're on phone calls, listening to a podcast or in a Teams meeting. Turns out this is a fatal design flaw (type "xm4 metalic sound" into a search and you will see hundreds of post about this) that Sony will not admit to. Unfortunately this makes an otherwise really nice pair of earbuds worthless especially for tge $300 price tag. Exchanged these for the Bose QC earbuds and was blown away by the ANC performance (worlds better than the XM4's), sound quality and the ease of use. Sorry Sony you really dropped the ball on this one.

We sincerely regret to hear that you've encountered metallic/pinging sound on your WF-1000XM4 and that it had to be returned. This is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have on our premium headphones.
Some of these problems can be fixed by performing the steps below:
To eliminate the pinging/metallic sound, you should:
1. Turn off Adaptive Sound Control, or 2. Turn off “Notification Tone When Switching."

A little bit pricer but the best noise cancelling

Painful and annoying to use

The touch controls are horrible to use and limited in their function. Sound quality and noise cancellation was on par with my 10yr old Bose.

Please ensure you have downloaded the Headphones Connect app, it has an Equalizer that you can use to customize the Settings to fine-tune your music. Different sizes of earbud tips are supplied so that you can achieve the maximum effects of the earbuds. Ear canals vary in size from person to person, and can also vary in size from the left to the right sides. To keep the headphones from falling out, please select the right size earbud tips. We also recommend wearing the earbuds properly.
Gently pull up on the top of your ears, put the earbud tips in your ear canal, and then twist the earbuds into place. This makes sure the earbuds are firmly in the ear canal

Bad Sony Product

I found it hot to the touch in the charger and quickly removed since it seemed like it was overheating. There are numerous reports of battery problems with these. Will not purchase Sony audio products in the future.

A must for Sony fans

So when i saw that these were new I had to give them a go. I was using the Samsung buds which sounded ok. These Sonys have great bass and the noise canceling is crazy.

I'm done with Sony

Stopped working right after year warranty expired

Only had a little over year and left earbud stopped working. Tried all the troubleshooting tips and called Sony support number. Nothing they can do since out of warranty. Should last longer than one year.

Sounds ok and just being "ok" for that amount of money isn't worth it. I continually had to try to cut them up because i they sounded low only to find out the volume was as high as they can go. I found myself always adjusting the sound in the app. I got annoyed and returned them for some B&O E8s. I immediately was satisfied and its a noticeable upgrade in sound quality. The E8s are the best I've owned so far.

Sony Once Again Sets the Standard

The noise cancelling is down right spooky with how good it is. The sound quality is superb, best I've seen thus far. Only problem I've had is the connectivity. It can be spotty at times, but overall still acceptable.

Great sound; terrible value

They were great while they lasted, but they didn't last long.

When making and receiving phone calls, your voice will be heard from the headset through the headset’s microphones (Sidetone function). In this case, ambient sounds or the sounds of the headset operation may be heard through the headset, but this is not a malfunction. The foam tips on these put a lot of unnecessary pressure in my ears. The microphone quality was terrible while talking on the phone according to those on the other side as well. I do not recommend this product at all.
