But they do have a MAJOR issue and that is the microphone. Returned them after 3 days and bought the Apple AirPod Pros. If you are debating between these two headphones like I was I would suggest the Apple AirPods. Unless you just hate Apple. The Sound Quality was nothing fantastic. You have to pay for great audio, meaning 360 audio, through a service like Tidal, at $20 a month. Yes they give you a three month free trial. But even then it's about the same as Apple's Atmos/Spatial audio. For regular music they were just okay; a little bassy out of the box, but it does have a bunch of EQ stuff if you want to spend the time. The Bluetooth pairing was fine, a little clunky for 2022 IMO. I paired with Apple iPhones, a PC Laptop and a desktop. Distance is great. Battery Power was really great, that is true. I'm a big guy and I still found the headphones to be a little heavy and bulky in my ears. I didn't find that the tips sealed well in my ears though, I tried all three sizes. The Sound cancelling was just okay. I'm finding the Apple Airpods pro to be much better in this regard. However, the real issue is the microphone. Yes, I do not solely purchase In-Ear headphones for their use as a phone calling device, but the multiple calls that I made to multiple different people were un-listenable, on their end as well as mine. They sounded tinny, but worse, they all said that my audio was muffled and they could barely hear what I was saying, and that's a problem. I read a thousand reviews and debated with headphones to get based on how many 'professional' reviewers said these were fantastic headphones. I chose these over the Apple AirPod Pros based on these reviews and I was greatly disappointed.

The WF-1000XM4 features Precise Voice Pickup Technology uses beamforming microphones and a bone-conduction sensor to allow the WF-1000XM4 headphones to pick up your voice clearly and accurately for hands-free calls—at home, in a café, or wherever you are.
If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not properly worn on your ears, tap operations or the speech detection of Speak-to-Chat may not be successful, or you may not obtain proper sound qualities, noise canceling effects, or call performances. If any of this is the case, we recommend to try the following.
• Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The size of the left and right earbud tips may be different.
The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app will help you to determine which earbud tips are most suitable for you to achieve the optimal noise cancellation effect.
• Check if the headset is properly worn on your ears. Wear the headset so that the earbud tip is comfortably situated as deep in the ear canal as possible.

Bass doesn’t wash over everything and sounds phenomenal out of the box. If you prefer louder bass though it can be easily tweaked within the app, as well as other sound settings. But overall best headphones I have ever purchased. Also If you have Apple Music and stream files in “lossless audio” format, these headphones will really shine.

Just not as good as the XM3

The best part about the XM4 is the size reduction of both the earbud and case. Unfortunately the sound seems muddy and has the worst stereo imaging I have heard. The best way to describe the fit is fatiguing. It will be different for everyone but these are the first earbuds I have ever had an issue with. The foam tips are great for isolation but are not as soft as comply and will wear out much faster than silicone. On top of that the price went up by $50 vs msrp of the XM3.

Great noise cancellation

The sound with its max volume is not so loud but when I say it cancels everything around you, I mean it feels like you are in a noise proof room. They are bulky and not great for small ears. Somewhat comfortable and the color and design makes it luxurious. Still other headphones are better at this price point or lower.

Sound great but had to return due to known issue

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to say - most of the time when listening to these headphones, they lived up to the very positive reviews. Unfortunately, I had two problems that I couldn't overlook. 1) The fit: after wearing them for an hour or so, they became more and more uncomfortable in my ear. It's probably because the tips are made of a foam-like substance (kind of like earplugs) that aren't as comfy as standard silicone ones. The upside to this approach is a REALLY good seal for noise cancellation but long listening sessions aren't great. Maybe if I kept them either they or my ears would get broken in. But... 2) Wind noise: this one was a non-starter. A couple of days after purchase, I noticed that I could hear what sounded like wind rushing through the left earbud when I listened to them for awhile (maybe 30 minutes or so). I started doing some research and this is a well-documented issue. Something is going on with the ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) processing that causes this wind noise to start with prolonged use. If I turn ANC completely off - not Ambient Sound mode, all the way off - the wind noise goes away. Possible reasons vary - bad firmware, moisture from the ear, etc. - but Sony has yet to figure out how to fix it besides turning ANC off or doing a warranty exchange. At $250 at time of purchase, there's no way I can keep these when a primary feature doesn't work correctly and, according to other consumers, the issue hasn't been rectified. Maybe Sony will figure this out eventually but for now they're getting returned.

This is definitely not the customer experience we want you to have. Using the right size of earbud tips while wearing the them correctly is one of the resolutions that could have done: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wf1000xm4/v1/en/contents/TP1000237901.html. Our WF1000XM4 has a feature called Automatic Wind Noise Reduction that reduces wind noise and can be turned on using the Sony | Headphones Connect app.
