The Sound is Great
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although the sound is wonderful, I only have a few things that I used to have with my Jabra earbuds. I thought sound was the only important thing until I realized that you cannot connect to bluetooth devices at the same time. So therefore you have to completely disconnect from the one device before connecting to the new one. Very frustrating. But the sound is great!

Sony's WF-1000XM4
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony's WF-1000XM4, I really wish this was an Apple product. Hands down Sony's WF-1000XM4 is one of the best product of the year!! I compare the Sony's WF-1000XM4 to the new Spider-Man: No Way Home movie that also come out this year. Apple and Beats by Dre have just lost the war on earbuds.

Poor quality and customer service
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unexpectedly poor quality and very uncomfortable customer experience. In short: 1. The ear tips started to crack in two weeks. 2. Only one of the earbuds can connect after two months. Returned to Sony for a replacement. 3. Sony sent out the replacement through FedEx without requesting signatures. The package was never received (even all of us were at home during the delivery time) and Sony refused to a) send another replacement; b) issue any refund on the item or the add-on 3-Year Protection; c) follow up with FedEx for further investigation. Please be aware of your potential financial/time loss with Sony.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Man I'll go ahead and give you the only con I have encountered and that is the phone call audio. For me it could be better, possibly enhanced in a future software update. I love everything else about these earbuds , the music sounds better on the Ldac codec of course you need your music source have hi-res audio to really hear the difference . Sony really outdid themselves on this . Ldac will use a bit more battery but it's worth it for me . You hear virtually any little sound . I have listened to some songs and noticed new things about them , different notes and nuances. Almost like if you were right there when it was recorded. I can definitely justify the price just on Ldac alone . On android just unlock developer mode. Then go to the Bluetooth look for the Sony earbuds WH-1000xm4 and enable ldac . If you care about sound quality, then I recommend these for you. Other sound features included are ANC and ambient mode. ANC is unbelievable how these little earbuds can mute any other sound coming from your surroundings. You would think only over the ear headphones can do this, but these earbuds can match that. I really can't hear anything but my music . With ambient mode you can hear your surroundings and very clearly as long as your music isn't at max volume mines are at about 75% and I can hear the cars coming from behind me when riding my bike . I love the shape of the earbuds , Sony ditched the pill shaped design. These fit better and I don't feel them in my ear because it comes with a kind of foam tips I squeeze them and then place them in my ear and it seals them while gripping my inner ear because the tips do have grip to them . It's hard to explain unless you have them and feel the ear tips. The mic works great everyone can hear me and not the world around me. I was in a busy street and I didn't have to yell or repeat myself when I was talking on the phone. The case is so small and wireless charge compatible. Usb C plug . Strong magnets will hold the earbuds in there, I turned the case upside down and opened it plus shaking it and not one of the earbuds fell out . The earbuds are water resistant as well. When you open the app you can use the tutorial to help you learn all the other amazing features that you can use . Like customize the controls on the left and right earbud. You can use any voice assistant as well, and you can customize the sound EQ, which many other companies don't let you do . I did use it and adjusted it to my liking. If you can spend the extra money then by all means go for it. there's a reason why Sony's over the ear headphones, although huge are the number 1 sellers and in ratings. So imagine that in an earbud size.

Very annoying problem
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound quality is amazing, the noise canceling is absolutely terrible but what still is the biggest problem is that all 3 pairs ive gone through all dont sit correctly in there case and will randomly turn on and disconnect my phone from my car. Literally fhe worst thing about these headphones. I would not recommend them at all….

Posted .Hi Jeremiah, while we're glad that you like the sound quality, we regret that the headphones don't sit correctly and the noise canceling function did not meet your expectations. This is definitely not the experience we'd like you to have. We'd love to help you troubleshoot your problem and turn your experience around.
If the effect of noise canceling is not sufficient, please try following the suggested steps here: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wf1000xm4/v1/en/contents/TP1000239171.html
In addition, different sizes of earbud tips are supplied so that you can achieve the maximum effects of the earbuds. Ear canals vary in size from person to person, and can also vary in size from the left to the right sides. To keep the headphones from falling out, please select the right size earbud tips. We also recommend wearing the earbuds properly.
Gently pull up on the top of your ears, put the earbud tips in your ear canal, and then twist the earbuds into place. This makes sure the earbuds are firmly in the ear canal
Hope this helps. Should you need further assistance, please email us at socialsupport@am.sony.com with the following details:

Great sound!! Questionable fit for some, possibly
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound!! Questionable fit for some, possibly? These are my first wireless in-ear headphones. Let me just say, I generally do not like the sound quality on earphones. That is not the case here. For earbuds in general, these sound really fantastic. I would attribute this to the new ear tips included with the xm4s this year. These are a slightly pliable type of material similar in feel to the foam “Comply” brand tips made for various earphones. Any tight seal, will make sound in these better, but whatever tuning Sony has going here is making these sound amazing! I like the amount of bass in these... it gets pretty low, but doesn’t distort the rest of the sound spectrum at all. ANC, Active Noise Cancelling is very good too, however how good it gets also boils down to how air-tight that seal becomes. Luckily, on board the Sony Headphones app, there is a function to check the “fit” of the earphones in ear. You need to do this in a quiet place, and also stay still for the 10 seconds or so the test runs. The earphones come with 3 different sizes of tips in the box, but for the price premium we are paying here, I wish there were at least one more size. I had some initial issues getting to the right size, I wound up having to put in the largest of the 3 sizes. It was not so much that they did not fit my ear canal, but rather that with the medium, the rest of the earphone that doesn’t enter my canal would hit the sides of my ears a bit. With the large size, they almost did not fit, but I didn’t realize you can kind of squeeze them down a bit, and they kind of blow back up once they are in over a second or two. If you have ever worn ear plugs for swimming, it is a similar kind of feeling. Once I got that out of the way, I was actually kind of glad I had to do that, as it game me a stellar fit to my canal, and made everything sound great! Calls are pretty great. My friends and family said I sounded loud and clear, even when I was in windy environments. There is a setting in the headphones app that you can adjust how much it blocks wind and other external noise out. The earphones are also awesome as they allow me to also listen to music, or podcast, whatever, and if it sense me beginning to speak, it will mute my music, turn what they call “ambient” mode on, and “pipe in” outside sound so that you can hear who you are talking to. Stop talking/moving your jaw, and after about 15 seconds it goes back to whatever mode you originally were set to, “ambient” or “noise cancelling”. This is great as I don’t have to remove these, or touch the side controls on the sides of the earphones to pause the music to speak to someone, or worse, have to pull them out of my ears. The charging case is pretty good too. It doubles as storage, and portable on the go charging, as the case itself has a battery itself. It only seems to give me about 3 full charges back to the headphones in this “on the go” changing mode, and then I need to use the included USB C charging cable with my own charger from my phone to charge the case / earphones at the same time. It doesn’t seem to charge the case itself without the earphones in the case that I can tell. The EQ settings are pretty good. If you like bass, I would set it to “BRIGHT”. That is my favorite of the several presets. You can also customize your own. I have worked out extensively in these now for a few days, and they are not going anywhere. From jumping, jogging, walking, push ups, pull ups… these guys aren’t going anywhere from my ears, and I am glad!! Would hate to lose these while outdoors. Overall, these may come with a bit of a price tag to them, but the sound quality and noise cancellation cannot be beat. My only concern to buyers is how they fit a person’s ears. I managed to get a good fit, and they sound great because of that. My wife however was not able to get a proper seal from any of the 3 tips. I think she may have needed somewhere between a S - M size one. Just something to keep in mind.

Another Great Sony Product
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THE BREAKDOWN: These Sony WF-100-XM4 earbuds are nothing short of amazing. Keep reading for my personal opinions on these amazing earbuds. These earbuds arrived in an small case/box with all recycled material, 3 different size ear tips (one being on the earbuds themselves and the other 2 are in the case), USB-C charging cable, manuals, charging case and the earbuds themselves. These earbuds are very well made as well as the case. Like most of the higher end earbuds these days that have a magnet to connect the earbuds in the case so that they don’t fall out easily and the set in the right spot to charge properly. You receive 3 different ear tips with these earbuds, small, medium, and Large. These ear tips are made of some sort of memory foam material that seem durable. I have had similar ear tips on my JayBirds in the past, but they didn’t last. I have made it through several long runs and workouts with no sign of wear yet. The sound quality was amazing, I felt like no matter what genre of music I listened to it was perfectly balanced. With the app you can adjust the EQ settings but honestly, I didn’t feel the need to. The app is like most other apps out there were you can customize your sound preferences. The 360-reality audio was really cool. I found that this setting was very cool as you can hear audio all around you. The noise cancelling and ambient sound features are quite good. I tried several different distractions from my kids shaking a chip bag to running outside in the wind and the features are amazing. The only thing I found is that if it is windy outside even with the noise cancelling on you can still hear the wind hitting the earbuds, but not as bad. The battery life for me lasted about 8 hours per charge with the case giving you another 16 hours. PRO’s: -Noise Cancellation -Great sound quality -Customize sound with app -8 hours of charge -Comfortable ear tips CON’s: -Noise cancelling outside when windy doesn’t work well SUMMARY: Overall, this product worked well and as intended, and I would recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for device like this.

Amazing sound!!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use these with my samsung S21 and the sound quality is really good. The bass is really good. There is also a sony app that you can download to enhance and customize the sound. Battery lasts a long time. The only thing i have to complain about is they dont stay in my ear if I walk around with them on. I tried the different ear bud covers but apple air pods stay in the ear way better than these. So i only use them if im not moving around alot. I think the sound quality is better than the new apple air pod pros, but theres a reason you see everyone walking around with air pods on. They just stay in the ear so much better.

||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like these. Sound is excellent once you play with the graphic equalizer. Stock tuning was not great for me, but I was able to easily adjust them to my liking. Battery life is just fine for my usage, and I haven't noticed much battery degradation. I use the ANC frequently and it is quite good. I use them in grocery stores and the in store music is silenced and other shoppers are muted fully. Used them on a flight - no engine noise, no wind noise, no passenger noise - no complaints. Comfort is fine for me and they stay securely in my ears with no problem, but everyone's ears are different. I have had them for almost two years now and no real issues to report. I only experience a minor Bluetooth connection issue when I start streaming music in LDAC. It lasts for just a second or two and then the connection is solid.

One of the best pairs of ANC earbuds
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony really hit it out of the park with these. I often go through earbuds after a week or two because they either hurt my ears (Beats Fit Pro), don't stay in my ears (any of the AirPods), or have buggy performance (Jabra Elite 7 Pro, Bose QC earbuds). I tried the WF-1000XM4 earbuds when they launched and had connectivity issues with my pair, so I exchanged them. I wanted to give Sony the benefit of the doubt, so I tried the earbuds again and I'm glad I did. These are the best true wireless earbuds I have used. I've worn them for 6-8 hours a day and haven't experienced connectivity issues, a big plus from me. Their audio quality is stellar, and you can EQ them to sound however you want. I use the Excited profile with the bass boost set to +8. You can use one of their numerous presets or create your own. The app can store two custom profiles. Bass is booming but clearly defined, audio isn't muddy when boosting the bass. Highs are clear and the mids are well represented. The kickdrum comes through with every song I listen to without sounding like a dull thud. Stereo imaging is good for a pair of earbuds. Content is well spaced, about as good as can be for closed back earbuds/headphones. Sony's ANC is stellar here. I think the Bose QC earbuds cancel out a bit more higher notes, but these have better passive noise isolation. Combine that with some of the best ANC and content is blocked/canceled. I can't hear myself typing on my keyboard or clicking my mouse, the person in the office next to mine is silenced while listening to content, and I can't hear the space heater blaring in my office. In fact, people often must raise their voices and stand right up next to my desk for me to know they're in my office. These are excellent. Sony included all the features you would expect for flagship earbuds. They feature ear detection and will automatically pause/play when removing and re-inserting them. Each earbud connects independently to your source device which allows for a more stable connection. You can also use whichever earbud you won't, the right doesn't feed the left like so many older earbuds or ones that use cheap Bluetooth (I'm looking at you Bose QC Earbuds). Sony carried over a feature from their XM3/XM4 over-ear headphones and that's the hold for attention. Put a finger over your left ear and keep it there, the earbuds will pause whatever you're listening to and go into ambient mode. Remove your finger and ANC will kick back on while your content resumes. It's nifty when you want to hear someone without having to pause your music and start ambient mode manually. Sony's app is solid and unlocks a bunch of features. I haven't scanned my ears or setup a 360 profile because I have an iPhone and subscribe to Apple Music. 360 audio is limited to Amazon Music and maybe another music service or two. Sony shrunk the carrying case compared to the XM3 earbuds, it's about 40% lower in size. The case has USB-C and Qi charging so you can use whatever you want. The magnets in the case are powerful and hold the earbuds in without issues. I've tried shaking these out and they don't even jiggle a bit. They aren't going to spill if you drop your case, it takes two hands for me to remove the earbuds. Call quality is fine. These aren't going to blow anyone away, but they fit the bill. I never had anyone complain that they couldn't hear me, unlike when I took calls on the Bose QC earbuds or Jabra Elite 7 Pro. I'm not sure if the bone conducting sensors and beam forming mics really do much but I can't really complain. My only complaint is that the fit of these earbuds takes some getting used to. Sony went with memory foam/rubber combo ear tips. They're comfortable and the earbuds are light, but I'm not used to having foam ear tips. I can't just take the earbuds out of their case and stick them in my ears. I must press around the ear tips for a second or two before putting each one in my ear, then I hold the earbuds for another 1-2 seconds. They aren't like other earbuds where I can put them in and take them out in a second, it's a dedicated process. Just make sure you perform the fit test to make sure you have the right size ear tips installed. I'm good with that negative though. I will take an extra 2-4 seconds to put the earbuds in if it means having a better listening experience. I really can't say enough positive things about these. I've read that there are some bugs for Android users, like having the left earbud not connect to their phones, but I use an iPhone, iPad, and MacBook so that hasn't been an issue. I wish Sony included multi-connect with these, so I didn't have to re-pair them when switching devices, but I rarely do this except when traveling (which hasn't happened in 2 years). I can wholeheartedly recommend these to anyone wanting true wireless earbuds with solid battery life, best in class ANC, great audio quality that you can tune to your liking, and a comfortable fit.

It's my MDR-1000X, in a more portable form.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned a pair of Sony MDR-1000X ANC headphones for several years now and have continued to live up to providing excellent noise cancellation performance with solid audio quality, and I've always wondered if Sony would ever be able to deliver on bringing both of these metrics onto a fully wireless earbud experience. In between that journey came along the Apple AirPods Pro, which has dominated ownership of my left pocket ever since and has always worked phenomenally with my iPhone, but I've always liked Sony's premium audio products and have recently been allowed to pick up their latest wireless in-ear headphones model, the WF-1000XM4. The WF-1000XM4 comes presented to you in a different form of packaging than you would typically expect from a premium audio product. A small, eco-friendly cardboard jewelry box of sorts, which comes undone in half once you peel off the label holding it in place. Immediately you get introduced to the wireless charging case where your WF-1000XM4's live in, (notice how small and compact Sony was able to make it, a nice plus). Behind the wireless charging case is a USB-C charging port, and it supports Qi wireless charging as well. Open the case and there are the earbuds. The XM4's power on immediately after removing them from the case and will begin to discover a device to pair to, or connect to the device it's already bound to. Within a few seconds of pairing, I was presented with the suggestion to download Sony's Headphones Connect app which is vital to control and navigate the different features of the XM4. After paired with the app, I began to configure my noise cancellation settings and enable Adaptive Sound Control, a feature that automatically changes the type of ANC being utilized when staying still, walking at a brisk pace, running at a faster pace, or sitting inside a method of mass transport, such as a train or an airplane. You also get presented with the option to set up an optimization feature known as 360 Reality Audio, however, I found the actual setup process to be cumbersome with the app requiring you to take actual photos of both of your ears with your smartphone, to analyze your ear shape and enjoy the best possible "immersive" music experience. Maybe when I find the right person to embarrass myself in front of by trying to take photos of my ears, then said person asking if they want me to help them take photos of said ears... yea, not gonna happen. Let's get right into how these sound... amazing. Oh but you probably knew I was going to say that, so let me explain why. Sony went to some pretty extensive lengths for the development of these in-ear headphones, from the actual design of them and ensuring a proper fit into your natural ear that spans research dating back to the first-ever in-ear headphones from the early 80s into an ergonomic design that matches the ear cavity and provides a more stable fit, to the fact that there are 6mm drivers in these producing exceptional sound quality. Sony also touts the "Integrated Processor V1" that's doing all sorts of the magic behind the scenes with enhancing the sound, optimizing your ANC environment on the fly, and ensuring a clearer, more stable Bluetooth signal that is less prone to sound skipping. The processor also happens to help the incredibly phenomenal battery life on these things... I'm averaging between 7-8 hours on a single charge and about less than a total day's worth of total charging capacity from the case's battery before needing to wirelessly charge them together again. I can notice I am wearing my 1000XM4's for longer compared to my AirPod Pros. Another thing to notice is that Sony was finally able to figure out the water resistance situation with their wireless audio products, and you'll be happy to note that these are rated IPX4. Thank goodness. Overall, I think Sony did a fantastic job at bringing to market a pair of wireless in-ear headphones you will likely want to have to live in your front pocket. There is a good chance you've already owned or still own a pair of AirPods or perhaps some Galaxy Buds and have gotten comfortable with them, but you're probably eager to experience something more, and that is exactly what the Sony WF-1000XM4's can be for you, as they are for me. You may have noticed some really rave reviews about these, and that is really because of Sony's incredible success with the over-the-ear counterpart of these buds, the WH-1000XM4s, that have blown Bose and others out of the ANC competition, likely for good. Let's see if the WF's happen to do the same against Apple, Samsung, and anyone else making wireless in-ear headphones at the moment...

The WF-1000XM4 headphones feature intuitive touch control settings—for example, tap on the left earbud to change from Noise Cancelling to Ambient Sound and long tap for Quick Attention, or double tap on the right to skip to the next track. Excellent Competitor to AirPod Pros
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first ANC earbuds were the AirPod Pros but I switched to these after they proved to be unreliable (for me, they broke within 6-8 months each time I bought one). These are 10/10 in almost every category, beating out the AirPods in battery life, sound quality, ANC performance, isolation, and everything except ergonomics and comfortability. Unfortunately, these use touch controls which are hit or miss, but 90% of the time work flawlessly. The only beef I have with them is if you're walking while wearing a hood or something covering them, they will accidentally pause or skip your music or something like that. In terms of comfort, for some reason Sony ships these with memory foam eartips which initially are cool but quickly get gross for obvious reasons. Additionally, they become increasingly uncomfortable over time, but this is a quick fix if you buy replacement sillicone eartips. I swapped mine out 2 weeks ago and I feel as though the ANC and comfort has been greatly improved. All around great product, especially if you like to have more customizability with your controls and settings, as the Sony Headphones app gives you a lot of things to tinker with on these earbuds.

Great sound experience
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only reason i returned these was because i needed to pay bills. Planning on buying these again soon because the ANC is top tier. This is somewhat due to the type of ear tips these come with, semi-memory foam. These arent all to comfortable over long periods of time, but they did allow me to sleep in a noisy environment two times. Battery life is a little above average. The sound quality is also really good. There's plenty of detail in bass, mids, and highs. These are also more circular shaped, so they dont look funny when viewed by passerbyers. Voice quality when calling is good enough, but when youre buying these, youre paying for the sound experience. I just wish the unboxing experiemce was better. Also, wish the case was more pocketable.

Posted .Hi Rolo,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're sorry to hear that unit was returned but we're glad you like the amazing sound, long battery-life, phone call function and noise cancelling features of the WF1000XM4. This unit comes with different sizes of earbuds to ensure there is a great fit for all ear sizes and an optimal noise canceling experience. As a suggestion, to reduce discomfort while wearing the headphones, try to use the right size according to the size of your ears. When wearing them, please gently pull on the top of your ear as you twist the earbud into your ear. This should give you a firmer hold and better noise canceling experience. Your feedback with the case is greatly appreciated. We are looking forward to your next purchase and thank you so much for shopping Sony! - Kris
