Great (expensive) earbuds, definitely recommend
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have no problems using them between my laptop and phone. I was mainly comparing them with Jaybirds Vista 1 when I was considering getting the Jaybird Vista 2 earbuds. They were good but these ones sound better. The ambient and noise cancelling modes are pretty amazing. It's LDAC's connection can be spotty sometimes but not a deal breaker for me. Something to consider with this is that I am using these Bluetooth 5.2 earbuds with a phone that only supports Bluetooth 5.0 You can set the Ambient/Noise-Cancelling modes by tapping the left earbud. The pause/play from tapping the right earbud doesn't work very well but that's alright with me (Update: a software update has fixed this) .They are like a foam so it's good to roll the foam part to be smaller before putting them in your ears. I use a large in one ear and a medium in the other. I've used them when running and working out and I haven't had a problem with them falling out. You can set it to change modes and EQs based on your location which is really convenient! Also, phone calls are awesome. I've talked to people when it's been kinda loud around me and people have been able to hear me clearly enough.

Much better than AirPod Pros!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I owned a set of AirPod Pros, and never really liked them. The sound quality was just OK, nothing compared to my over the ear Bose (QC35) and Sony (XM3), and they always felt loose no matter what ear tip I tried. Even aftermarket ear tips didn't resolve my issue. When I heard about these, I bought them as soon as Best Buy had a set in-stock (they seem to sell out quick). The sound was way better than the AirPods, especially with the app controlled equalizer, and the fit was nice and snug. A bit pricey, but a much better fit and sound. Gave my AirPods to my 17 yr old.

A clear winner for an overall better earbud
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these as an upgrade from my Google Pixel Buds. To start, I use ear buds mainly for phone calls, listening to podcasts and as my method of listening to movies that I'm watching while on travel. The ability to use Google Assistant was very attractive to me and allows for nearly the same experience as Google Pixel buds. The ANC functionality is a vast improvement over Google Pixel Buds. If I have a suggestion for improvement it is multiple device connections and interference that can take place while receiving a secondary call.

Best in class noise cancellation.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, I appreciate that eco-friendly packaging, which I think it’s a step in the right direction, and hope other tech companies follow suit. These buds are considered premium, so in that context, I will share my thoughts. The case is more on the minimal side. It’s smaller than the last generation and more portable. There’s a USB-C charging port in the back and an LED status bar in the front. Thankfully, these are Qi wireless compatible as well. The buds fit nicely inside the case and pretty much stay in even if the case happens to open unexpectedly. The buds themselves have a sleek look with copper accents, making them look classy in my opinion. The buds come with foam-like tips only, which is interesting because those can be niche, and not everyone may like them. The buds fit nicely in the ear and have a low profile, so they do not stick too far out. They are also very secure as I was able to run and even do a few cartwheels without them falling out. Although I wish Sony would've included gel tips, these are on the comfortable side, and I got used to them quickly. The XM4s are rated IPX4 so a little sweat or rain will not be an issue. The XM4s feature Bluetooth 5.2 which makes them future-proof. I was able to quickly connect and reconnect them. It’s also cool that they pop up when connected to my android phone, although I suspect depends on the phone. They stay connected when walking around my medium size apartment. I also did not notice any lag when watching videos or playing games. Instant play works well when taking a bud off and back on. Sadly, the XM4s do not support multi-point connections. Battery life is rather impressive as Sony claims 8 hours with ANC 24 hours with the case (much more without ANC on). I was able to listen to them for 2 days straight without worrying about losing juice. Quick charge is welcome where 5 minutes in the case adds 60 minutes of playback. Out of the box, the sound signature emphasizes bass, although it’s not overbearing. The midrange is well represented as vocals and rhythm instruments come through clearly. I thought the treble was a bit toned down, though. The default sound signature gave me mixed results depending on the music genre. Thankfully, Sony’s app fixes this issue completely. Messing around with the EQ, I found a signature that was rich, full, and exciting. I stream mostly Hi-Res HD music, so I am pleased that these buds offer LDAC support. Although they do not support Dolby Atmos, channel separation and soundstage are well represented and add depth to music and movies. Sound quality upscaling (DSEE Extreme) is a nice feature for those who listen to lower-quality streaming. The Active Noise Cancellation is one of the best I have experienced, and I have plenty of ANC buds. They even tackled midrange noise without that eerie feeling. The ambient sound mode is OK, and I like the speak-to-chat feature, as it stopped the music whenever I spoke. I do not sing much, so I keep this feature on, which helps with my voice assistant. The call quality is decent at best, but I was not impressed. Although the call was stable, people immediately were able to tell that I was on wireless. The wind reduction feature worked rather well, however. Controls are a bit of a mixed bag. While the ability to control everything is available, not everything can be done at once, and you must choose which controls are active through the app, sacrificing other options. Speaking of the app, I think this is one of the strongest selling points. The app is absolutely necessary in order to take advantage of the buds. There, you can change the sound signature as mentioned, adjust ANC levels, playback controls, and many other features adding much more value. While I do wish they had better controls and multi-point, in the end, I think they fare better than most in the premium category –certainly when it comes to noise cancellation and app features. I believe these definitely are worth the price.

Incredibly uncomfortable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound, but I can only wear them for an hour at a time because they are so uncomfortable. Wf-1000Xm4 is the best in sound
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If it weren't for the random moments where one of the two headphones would turn off on its own, the charging case having a very poor battery life, and the fact that I had to buy more ear tips because the foam tips included were falling apart within the first few weeks of use, I'd give this 5 stars. The noise canceling, and the overall sound are perfect.

Posted .Hi MichaelB, We're sorry if you find the volume low. This is definitely not the listening experience we'd like you to have. Allow us to help and turn this into a better experience.
For low sound level, please try the following steps below:
Turn up the volume of the connected device.
When the volume adjustment function is assigned to the touch sensor with the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app, you can adjust the volume on the headset during music playback.
Even when the volume adjustment function has been assigned to the touch sensor with the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app, you cannot adjust the volume on the headset during a call. Adjust the volume on the connected device. If you are unable to adjust the volume on the connected device, install the “Sony | Headphones Connect” smartphone app and adjust the volume on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app.
Connect the Bluetooth device to the headset once again.
The sound conduits (sound output tubes), air holes, and microphone holes (in 2 locations) of the headset are not completely watertight. If any water droplets are left in the sound conduits, air holes, or microphone holes (in 2 locations), sound level becomes low temporarily, but this is not a malfunction. See “When you have finished using the headset” and dry the headset before use.
Reset the headset.
Initialize the headset, and pair the headset and the device again.
I hope this helps but if you still need assistance, do not hesitate to drop us an email at socialsupport@am.sony.com with the following details:

Good sound, bad fit, and awful instruction alerts!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good overall, but some very annoying quirks that severely detract from them. Every time the text alert from phone, both the alert tone and a voice instruction about how to receive the alerts is heard - every time! In-ear fit is awful - with narrow ear canals, the hope for a good fit seems impossible.

Posted .Hi RobertS, We're glad that you like the sound quality. We're also sorry to hear about the alerts/notification and it doesn't fit well. Sony values the opinions of customers and is always striving to provide the best experience possible.
Different sizes of earbud tips are supplied so that you can achieve the maximum effects of the earbuds. Ear canals vary in size from person to person, and can also vary in size from the left to the right sides. To keep the headphones from falling out, please select the right size earbud tips. We also recommend to properly wear the headset so that the earbud tip is comfortably situated as deep in the ear canal as possible.
*Gently pull up on the top of your ears, put the earbud tips in your ear canal, and then twist the earbuds into place. This makes sure the earbuds are firmly in the ear canal.

Beautiful Sound, Could Improve Operability
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent sound quality, good noise cancellation. A little cumbersome to insert and remove from charger, and it's easy to accidentally switch out of noise cancellation mode and into ambient sound mode, but hard to switch back. Commands are activated by tapping on the exterior of the earbuds, and the outcome seems to be rather "hit or miss."

LOVE.
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love love LOVE these headphones; tried multiple different wireless earbuds and ended up settling on these. Best noise canceling by far, wonderful sound quality and very reliable and responsive touch commands + customizability of those commands. My ONLY complaints are 1) that noise canceling while on a phone call will automatically turn off and there is no way to enable it which really, really stinks and 2) no multipoint connection for bluetooth. Other than that, just keep in mind that because these tips are foam and not silicone, they will need a warm, damp cloth to clean regularly of earwax (a little harder to clean than just the silicone tips)
