Doesn't work after one month
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The left earbud stopped working after a month. For this price, it's insane to find such a defect. Do not buy. I might be returning the others i for for the rest of the family too. When it did work, it was great...

Not worth the money.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly, was not impressed with these for $300. Whenever I grimaced in the gym, the noise cancelling would get worse as the seal isn't that great. In addition, when running these are heavy enough that they make a thud with every step. Returned and bought Jabra Elite 85t. Would recommend taking the same step.

Posted .Hi Blaine,
We regret to hear that you already returned the headphones because the fit and noise canceling function didn't meet your standards. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not properly worn on your ears, tap operations or the speech detection of Speak-to-Chat may not be successful, or you may not obtain proper sound qualities, noise canceling effects, or call performances. These steps might have improved your experience:
-Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The size of the left and right earbud tips may be different.
The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app will help you to determine which earbud tips are most suitable for you to achieve the optimal noise cancellation effect.
-Check if the headset is properly worn on your ears. Wear the headset so that the earbud tip is comfortably situated as deep in the ear canal as possible. Twist the headset unit to fit it snugly into the ear canal, and adjust the positioning of the headset unit until it fits comfortably.
Thanks for sharing your review. We hope you consider Sony in your future purchase.

-Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears.
-The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app will help you to determine which earbud tips are most suitable for you to achieve the optimal noise cancellation effect.
-Check if the headset is properly worn on your ears. Wear the headset so that the earbud tip is comfortably situated as deep in the ear canal as possible.
-The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
I hope you consider our Sony products in the future. Thank you for sharing your feedback.

What happened to Sony?
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What the heck happened to Sony? Posted .Hi Poorsound, We regret to hear that you are having an issue with the headphones when used during calls. this is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have with our products. We'd love to help you and turn this into a better experience.
The WF-1000X4 has a superior call quality than our previous model. Precise Voice Pickup Technology uses beamforming microphones and a bone-conduction sensor to allow the WF-1000XM4 headphones to pick up your voice clearly and accurately for hands-free calls—at home, in a cafe, or wherever you are.
We designed these headphones to provide incredible audio performance and take noise cancellation to the next level. You can enjoy crystal clear call quality, even in noisy environments and our speak-to-chat technology automatically reduces volume during conversation. Plus, you can get 8 hour long battery with noise canceling, IPX4 water resistance and easy wireless charging.
If you're having an issue while on call, please ensure you have the latest software installed. The software version can be updated using the Headphones Connect App. In addition, restarting or Initializing the headphones are also a recommendation.

Great until they aren't. Do your research before
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These headphones are plagued with manufacturing defects. Look them up online. Scratchy ANC from bad MIC and batteries going bad at the one year mark and draining in an hour. They deleted my last review where I went in depth with their practice and how much they charge you to replace individual parts(Costs more than a new set). Don't fall for this like I did. These headphones are great until they aren't and Sony doesn't care if you get hit with the same manufacturing defects that tons of people experienced.

Very disappointed
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to love these after purchasing and loving the over the head version. There's only one thing I like about these ear buds; the case. The ear buds are so big and bulky they don't even fit into my ears, not even the cheap foam part that goes into the ear canal. The ANC is more like listening to a cheap white noise machine that doesn't even down out noise at the gym. The function that you can activate to turn off music when you talk works horribly and randomly mutes music for no reason. Notifications received through my phone are so delayed coming through the earbuds I often have to pick up and check my phone when I'm running to see what's going on.

Posted .Hi ChiTown, We are sorry to hear that the noise canceling function doesn't work and constantly making a ping sound. This is definitely not the experience we'd like you to have. Allow us to help and turn this into a better experience.
In the meantime, please ensure the software version is updated. Reference: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wf1000xm4/v1/en/contents/TP1000240507.html
You may also try following the below steps if the noise canceling effect is not sufficient.
Make sure that the noise canceling function is turned on.
If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not properly worn on your ears, tap operations or the speech detection of Speak-to-Chat may not be successful, or you may not obtain proper sound qualities, noise canceling effects, or call performances. If any of this is the case, try the following.
- Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears.
- Check if the headset is properly worn on your ears. Wear the headset so that the earbud tip is comfortably situated as deep in the ear canal as possible.
The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices. To eliminate the pinging sound you should:
1. Turn off Adaptive Sound Control, or
2. Turn off “Notification Tone When Switching”
When the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app is turned on, the wearer's actions, like walking or running, are detected. The noise canceling function is automatically adjusted and the Ambient Sound Mode may be activated according to these actions. To make the most of the noise canceling function, turn off the Adaptive Sound Control, and try to turn on the noise canceling function manually when you need it.
Resetting and initializing the headphones is also a recommendation. Please refer to this link on how to reset or initialize the WF-1000XM4 earbud headphones.

Drastically Overrated
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was so excited to get these. So many great reviews. Finally convinced myself to ignore the price tag. They were delivered, i couldn't wait to open them. Unboxed them. Chose the best fitting tips. Installed the app. Followed all the setup instructions. By the time I was done (maybe 30 minutes) i couldn't stand to have them in my ears any longer. The most uncomfortable ear buds I've ever owned. The square edges are unbearable. Reread instructions to make sure i was wearing them correctly, i was. Very disappointed. And no I don't have weirdly shaped ears. And on top of that the sound wasn't that great past 60% volume. So don't believe the hype.

Best In-Ear Headphones on the market
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just got the Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds, and I am impressed. To start with, they come in an eco-friendly recycled box. There is no plastic. It’s small and doesn’t generate a bunch of trash to deal with. The box includes a simple manual, earbuds, quick start QR code, recharge case, 3 sizes of ear gels, and a short USB-C cable. The earbuds themselves are slightly smaller than previous versions, but they are still bigger than my Samsung Galaxy buds. They are available in black and silver. I got the silver ones. (They say silver, I say beige. You be the judge.) You can expect them to have a very good battery life. Expect about 8 hours of continuous use with noise canceling on and probably over 12 hours with noise canceling turned off. The carrying case provides up to 2 full charges to the earbuds giving you a long time before you need to recharge the case. Recharging can be done via USB-C or wirelessly. The earbuds stay in the case magnetically, making it difficult for them to just fall out. Setting them up is pretty simple. They immediately paired to my Android phone, loaded the needed software, and were ready to go. Using the software, you will perform an “air tightness test” to ensure that the tips are properly sized and fitted in your ear. The Sony headphone app gives you a lot of functionality. It allows you to control the Adaptive Sound capabilities. (You can turn the active noise canceling on or off, and allow ambient sounds as well as control automatic wind noise reduction.) Using location-based learning, the app can control these settings, based on where you are as well as what you are doing. It also controls Speak-to-Chat. When you start talking, it will pause your playback until 15 seconds after you finish speaking, giving you the ability to have a conversation without having to manually pause playback. There is an audio equalizer allowing you to adjust your sound with 8 presets, 2 customizable presets, and manually. There are also settings to control Bluetooth connection quality and Sony’s 360 Reality Audio. The 360 Reality Audio needs to be set up using pictures of your ears to optimize sound, but the services that use it are subscription services that I don’t have. You can also control DSEE Extreme which uses AI technology to reproduce with high accuracy the frequency responses of the original sound source lost during compression. The app also allows you to control the use of Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa with the earbuds, modify the touch sensor functionality, control automatic power off, and notification & voice guide settings. Once you have everything set the way you want it, the app can back up your settings to the cloud for later retrieval or restoration. Finally, the app can be used to update the firmware on the earbuds as updates become available and has a tutorial on how to use the earbuds and all of their functions. The earbuds are IPX4 water and sweat-resistant so you can safely wear them while working out or out in the rain. (The case isn't, so keep it dry.) The fit is very comfortable. The ear gels are not silicone but are a kind of memory foam that form fits a person’s ears. The active noise canceling is the best I’ve ever used. They are as good as Sony’s premium over-the-ear headphones. The sound quality is crystal clear. Listening to any high-quality audio recording you can hear every instrument in the mix with total clarity. When used with an Android phone they are the world’s first true wireless earbuds to feature support for Hi-Res audio over the LDAC codec. LDAC transmits three times the amount of data compared to typical Bluetooth audio giving you real high-resolution audio. Overall, I can’t tell you how much I love these earbuds. They are the best I’ve ever used.

Terrible quality control...
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first pair have a residual ding/ring on the right earbud after it played a sound which seemed like a hardware problem. I checked and there was a reddit for the exact issue. I exchanged them because any sound other than the music playing is really unacceptable. Thought I just got a dud but the new pair had the exact issue which is pretty unacceptable quality control given this price point.

Posted .Hi impulsebuyer, We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing the same issue with your WF-1000XM4, we'd love to troubleshoot the issue and make this a better experience for you. In the meantime, please try these steps to troubleshoot the white noise issue that you are experiencing with your WF1000XM4. First, please make sure that the headphones are up to date with its software. You may follow this link to update: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wf-1000xm4/software/00263488
When the Noise Canceling or Ambient Sound Control is On, the vibration of walking or running may be transmitted from your body and cause noise. To avoid this, turn Off the Noise Canceling or Ambient Sound Control.
If the noise is heard when you push the headphones into your ears, or when you tap the touch sensor strongly,
This temporary noise can happen because of the Noise Canceling or Ambient Sound Control function and air-tightness of the headphones. This is normal, and not a malfunction.
Noise is heard when the surrounding ambient noise is loud, such as when you are in a station or near a construction site. When the Ambient Sound Control is On, the surrounding noises can be easily heard. Turn on the Noise Canceling function, or turn off the Ambient Sound Control function.
White noise (a small electrical noise with continuous static sound) is heard. This happens because of the Noise Canceling function. To avoid white noise, turn off the Noise Canceling function.
