The Most Disappointing Sony product in 20 years

Sound quality is the only good part.... when it works. For the $300 price tag the issues present with these ear buds shouldnt not even be a thought. After owning these for 3 months and using them everyday for 5-6 hours, i have had maybe 2 days where i didnt have issues. The right ear bud randomly disappears thru out the day everyday for no reason. Middle of a song gone, talking on the phone gone, just the right ear bud in or both doesnt matter. The adaptive noise canceling feature is atrocious, even after disabling the feature, it still does whatever it want whenever it wants and it cant tell the difference between the wind or myself talking. There is so much useless tech built into these ear buds the whole experiance sufferes. Dont waste your money...

In addition, please ensure the software installed is updated. You can verify the software by launching the headphones Connect apps. You may also reset or initialize the headphones.
Perform the reset on one earbud at a time. The device registration (pairing) information and other settings are retained during a reset.
Place an earbud into the charging case and then close the lid.
Use the supplied USB Type-C™ cable and a commercially available USB AC adapter to connect the charging case to a power outlet.
Open and close the lid of the charging case more than 5 times within 20 seconds until the red indicator light starts to flash.
Wait for the green indicator light flashes four times. Initialization is complete.
Remove the earbud from the charging case. Place the other earbud into the charging case, and then start the operation again from Step 1.

Great lightweight alternative for work calls while WFH, and music during quick walks as opposed to my favorite WH-1000XM4. Key phrase "while they worked". Picked these up in 2022. Now they won't hold a charge in case or buds. While on a call, they do this odd thing. From 100% charge, then 5 min in, disconnects in and out of bt call, then beep, then "low battery". Then "about 10% battery remaining". beep. "Low battery". All while on a call. Never been dropped or damaged. Having second thoughts about buying again. And from what I've read, the wfxm5's are more or less an inferior product compared to the xm4s.

Ears never hurt at the end of the day! They have great sound and the noise canceling is fantastic! I drive a work van and it makes a lot of noise these block most of that out! I would recommend these to anyone that is willing to spend the price tag

And the bass is very nice and booming. It fits snug in my ear and it feels very light in weight while in my ear. Aand the noise cancellation is very good and helps block out a lot of the surrounding noise. I was verry surprised the first time I was listening to some music with the transparency feature turned on, with some noise in the background, and then turning on the noise cancelling feature. Everything but my music all of a sudden went quiet. It was great. And my ears feel just fine even after having the headphones in my ear for some time. I am very happy with this purchase.

I’ve compared this to the Apple AirPods Pro, Jabra Elite 85T, Beats Studio Buds, and the Sennheiser Momentum. The Sony’s active noise cancellation is second to none. The sound quality is top notch only the Sennheiser compares. Sony’s app allows you to fully customize these. I suppose the only thing I am not a fan of is the adaptive control. I like having control of the ear buds and will turn ANC on/off when I want, not when I sit or walk etc. However it is a great feature to have. Finally found the perfect earbuds.

Different sizes of earbud tips are supplied so that you can achieve the maximum effects of the earbuds. Ear canals vary in size from person to person, and can also vary in size from the left to the right sides. To keep the headphones from falling out, please select the right size earbud tips. We also recommend wearing the earbuds properly.
Gently pull up on the top of your ears, put the earbud tips in your ear canal, and then twist the earbuds into place. This makes sure the earbuds are firmly in the ear canal.

Us classical people are often referred to as the most difficult to please sound snobs-recreating actual music/instruments is NOT what most modern products are designed for. My sound people didnt have any reccomendations for in-ear, wireless buds (which I wanted for convenience for running, and work as a machinist). Impressed with the little $80 bluetooth bose speaker I gave away as a gift recently, I decided to take a leap of faith and try the flagship bose buds out, thinking that this is where bose has invested the most in R&D, and maybe they've improved here... They were enormous, sounded absolutely atrocious (like I prefer to just not listen to anything than listen to anything with the bose. They hurt my ears and sounded like nails on a chalkboard), and the garbage quality, enormous and gaudy case broke the first day I had them. I asked around in some Facebook boards and was advised to try these. Night and day difference. They definitely arent perfect, but for the price, I think I made the right choice. The build quality is immediately obviously way, wayyy better. The case is sleek, robust and minimalist, and the buds are much smaller and less 'notice me! notice me!' The sound is so much better than the bose its not even funny-the bar was impossible to set any lower. Still not perfect, but theyre bluetooth buds. Noise canceling is amazingly effective, and the app is very intuitive. As an android user, I'm continuously impressed with how well the Google assistant works with these guys-I can be on my phone all day, texting and such, without ever pulling out my phone. Few cons: the active location noise canceling is a good idea, but not quite dialed in right. I realized how cool it would be if they would cancel on the shop floor, and not cancel in the bosses office. In practice, this didnt work well and I just wound up turning the feature off. It was basically cancelling and uncancelling constantly for no reason any time I moved (on my feet all day). Also, the speech detection is really cool (theyll mute while you're talking) except I found they would mute every time I yawn, sneeze, talk to myself or lip sync. I do all of these things way more often than I realized so I also turned that off. The battery life is not that great... I clock in at 7, and by lunch at noon theyre around 20%. After being in the case until 12:30 though, they're back to 90%. I havent had to go without music yet as a result of dead batteries. They recharge quickly and the case has a much higher capacity. All in all, they arent perfect... but, I think its safe to say these are the best bluetooth earbuds currently available.

The problem I have with these earbuds is the fit. No matter how many times I try I can't get them to sit comfortably in my ears using different tips and positioning. That's the only reason it's not five stars. The charging case with the magnetic seal is really excellent.

The WF-1000XM4 features an Ergonomic surface design for a stable and comfortable fit. The newly developed “Noise Isolation Earbud Tips” are made using a unique polyurethane foam material. I’ve had these for just about two years now and while I can’t recall exactly when they started to degrade, they only last around 30 minutes (a far cry from the advertised 8 hours new with noise cancelling enabled, even after sitting plugged in for over a day, maybe 45 with active noise cancelling/ambient pass through off and lower than average volume) with the built in battery life reminder no longer stating a full charge. You’ll probably find other reviews stating a similar claim. Had I known that for this price that I’d only get two years of service life, I definitely would have gone with something much cheaper.

Used them on a flight and sitting on the wing with no music playing the plane was bairly audible! Incredible noise canceling but its a bit uncomfortable after long periods.
