I bought for a Christmas gift. Between my partner and I, we’ve bought over 6 Beats products...and same problem keeps happening, one speaker goes out. He loves the noise canceling Ambient feature, it’s light weight and fits comfy on his big ears. It’s pricey just like Beats and Bose but I think it’s worth it

Great noise-cancelling headphones but some caveats

When deciding on noise-cancelling headphones, I narrowed down my search to the Sony WH1000XM3 (M3) or the Bose QuietComfort 35ii. Many reviewers have picked the Sony's over the Bose, but there are a few issues that have to be addressed. In terms of noise-cancelling, the M3's are excellent when I use them in coffee shops and noisy work settings. Also, noise-cancelling headphones usually hurt my ears, but the M3's do not bother me as much as other headphones after an hour or so of use for some reason. The sound quality is rich and has a large range, which ultimately made me choose the M3's over the QC35ii's. Still, there are some things I noticed. Comfort-wise, the M3's are solid, but they do get a little hot after a few hours, which did not happen with the QC35ii. The touch controls can be a little sensitive, and living in Wisconsin, the temperatures below 15 degrees did affect them sometimes with song skips and change the volume. The biggest caveat with these headphones is the lack of pairing with multiple devices. Having to manually disconnect and connect with other devices is a bit tedious whereas the QC35ii doesn't have this drawback. Ultimately though, my decision was made due to the excellent sound quality and better noise-cancelling capabilities of the M3's. The drawbacks are manageable and require some patience, which is a not a bad trade-off to me given the pros of these headphones.

These headphones have excellent sound quality and many options for changing their acoustical output. Noise cancellation is excellent. Comfort for me was excellent. I have no intention to use these deliberately for phone calls and video conferences, so I have no opinion to offer on their capability for that. However, that capability is there for those interested. It's important to note that most digital files do not have the full and rich sound frequency and resonance of the original master recordings, so do not fault the headphones if your music files have a low bit rate. Only lossless or original non-compressed files offer the best sound. Must streaming services and iTunes files are 256 kbps files. That is seriously stripped down music to save on storage spaces and what you hear through any headphones is effected by that fact. I have uncompressed and lossless files and these handle those sources superbly.

Do features matter more than sound?

First let's start with the good. 1) Very comfortable headphones. Had it on for hours without incident. 2) Battery life is VERY good. 3) Noise canceling is simply mind boggling. When I had these on NC it felt like I had entered a dimension where sound did not exist. Quite freaky actually. 4) Love the feature where you cup the right headphone with your hand and it turns on the mics to vocal sounds. Brilliant! But here's the thing, as awesome as all those features are they should only be considered as bonuses not the reason why you buy a set of headphones. At least that's my opinion. Would you buy a high end car with amazing features but it doesn't drive all that well? Which brings me to the cons. 1) Sound is meh. I tried using the sony equalizer for days trying to make these sound good but to no avail. Hiphop sounded pretty good. But any song with lots of instruments and or vocals it just sounded muffled and mashed up. And to me if the sound is not great than why pay 300 plus dollars. I returned these after almost two weeks of trying them and picked up the Bower and Wilkins PX. B&W px sound MUCH, MUCH better. Vocals and instruments are crystal clear. There is a break in period with the premium leather on the PXs but now they feel great. If NC is the most important thing for you than buy the 1000s. But if great sound is what you seek, avoid these.

These headphones are life-changing. I looked at several models and brands before purchasing these, and these Sony's were the clear winner by a long mile with regard to noise cancellation, sound quality, comfort, and battery life. Yes, they're more expensive, but worth every penny.

    A lifesaver in hospital

Unfortunately I had a bike accident and found myself in a noisy hospital for longer than I wanted to be there. My surgeons and nurses were lifesavers but these headphones are a different type of lifesaver. All the ambient groans, chatter, door slams, etc is gone. They are comfortable enough to fall asleep with and the sound is clear and balanced. Compared to airpods and bears I’m hearing nuance in music I haven’t heard in a while from these compact headphones. It’s easy to bypass the noise canceling and it doesn’t give me the ear-sucking feeling that Bose does. I’m very thankful to have found these and glad Best Buy made it so easy for my wife to pick them up and bring them to me. One of my best purchases of 2020.

These headphones have great sound quality, and it seems like the battery could last forever. The bluetooth is impressive too, as I could walk around the house with these disconnecting from my phone in my room. The only thing I don't like is the finicky touch control center on the side.

These really do sound amazing and feel good to wear for several hours at a time. I also love that the carrying case comes with a home for it's various accessories and with a little mesh pocket on the front. The app offers the ability to change the sound, but I prefer on the Bose and Jabra apps that I can save pre-sets. Sony tries to auto-detect where you are, then change the preset... but working from home the way I do my primary modes are in meetings vs. listening to music so the ambient sound isn't telling the app anything useful. I also wish the app allowed easy access the touch-control manual. I keep accidentally changing a setting by touching the right earphone. XD I originally bought the Bose 700s and was surprised at how uncomfortable and sort of soulless the sound was. Regardless of my app feedback, I'm SO glad I sent those back in exchange for these! Definitely recommend.

Coming from a pair of wired PSB ANC headphones that are very very good I was skeptical if a wireless pair could compete with sound quality, comfort and ANC. Hands down the Sony's are a winner in all categories! The hype is all true about these headphones. Recommended.

I'm pretty mellow when it comes to "high-end" sound equipment, and I knew Sony was a brand I could trust. I listen to a lot of EDM, lo-fi, and alternative rock music, and it comes through nice and crisp for any genre. The noise cancelling is pretty good, even when I have glasses on. The only time it has been less than perfect is when I wear a hat, but I don't do that at work so I can block out all the unwanted noise. The battery life is really good, I went a couple weeks without wearing them and forgot to plug them in, and when I hooked it up, the battery was still around 60% and it lasted the rest of the time I needed to use them. The EQ seems a little limited, if you're picky about doing all that stuff on your own, but it's pretty easy to use and set up. The ambient noise feature works really well in case you want to eavesdrop on someone else's conversation too ;). Great product, not a bad price, and satisfied all my wants for wireless headphones.

Not even lying, these are the best headphones ever. Don't get the Bose 700 series. They don't have as full of a sound profile or as heavy of a bass range. These are hands down, the best ANC headphones in the market. 6 months in and they're still amazing.

Sound is excellent, they are comfortable to wear, have great battery life and pair quickly with devices. In addition the sound cancelation is excellent. I have two cons: You can't pair two devices at one so there is a minor inconvenience when going between your phone and PC. The second is I have found the Bluetooth range to be about fifteen feet in my home, that is build of hardwood and plaster so your mileage may vary.
