These headphones are awesome. The noise cancelling technology works really good. The phone phones are comfortable and very nice looking. The headphones works with a Sony app that pairs pretty good with the headphones. I really enjoy using the headphones but there are some downfalls. The ambient sound transfer is a little annoying. When you’re walking and the headphones transfer to another setting like running, it makes a noise to let you know that the setting changed. I have not find a way to cut the transfer noise off. You can cut off the ambient transfer setting off if needed. The headphones leather ear cups can be a little annoying in the heat but that is normal with leather style headphones. The buttonless controls can take some getting used to. This is an option you can cut off too.

I remember being wowed by the Bose products six or seven years ago. I also remember the Bose product disintegrating and wanting exorbitant prices for replacement pads. So I began to look around to see if anybody else is working in this space and the answer is, "Yes. And they're killing it." The Sony product is so well made, with only a couple of buttons underneath and flush touchscreen controls on the right side. Pause, FF, vol up and down? Just touch your right ear. Batteries or nah? USC connection with a charge that apparently lasts for days depending on use. To be fair, I haven't had to shop for replacement parts, but if Sony is smart, they'll keep that part down to inevitable rule with the best product. And I haven't even mentioned the sound yet. It's ridiculous, better than any headphone I have worn. I estimate them to be Sennheiser pro quality...in a noise canceller?!?!? Best purchase of my year.

Amazing battery, good sound and fantastic noise cancellation. I have an autism spectrum disorder, and these headphones help me with sound sensitivity. Also ideal for anyone who uses public transit - planes, trains, and automobiles (buses). Pretty high tech setup in the app. Great support even though this is an older model. The new XM4s are now some of the best headphones for anyone with noise sensitivity or misophonia. I'm happy with these - I have used these with thousands of hours of music, videos and games. I'm no audiophile but that's not why I purchased these headphones. Nevertheless, you'll want to turn down the bass with the companion app or in your music player's equalizer settings (not both). Best. Purchase. Ever.

Even with the XM4's now out these bad boys are still top of the market! I originally had the MDR1000X for a few years and ended up selling them to my Brother and using the money to upgrade to these which was a great choice. There is a lot of customization you do on the iOS app which is new and the noise cancelling and environment detection is a lot faster and efficient. The headphones are also A LOT more comfortable to wear long term and fit a lot better than the MDR1000X. Bluetooth connection has never been an issue, my only complaint is you essentially have to put it in search mode each time you want to switch devices (I heard this was fixed in the XM4's?). Other than that I have no complaints and highly recommend them out of the whole market now.

As a frequent flyer and discount audiophile I put my headphones through a lot of torment. I have owned a ton of headphones from competitively priced B&W PX, Parrot Zik, QC35, and a few choice options from B&O. Naturally, I did not purchase these for audiophile grade listening experiences. I purchased these to drown out the sounds of crying children, snoring adults, and a host of droning sounds in a plane cabin. I can say without a doubt that if your objective is to find a pair of comfortable headphones that you can use for a 12 hour flight these are the ideal pair for you. Comfortable able to compensate for the full 12 hours without stopping, these headphones have made my flights pure bliss.

I typically don't do over the ear headphones because they end up hurting my ears after awhile. I don't seem to have that issue with these! The sound quality is amazing, the battery life is long, and they are very simple to set up. Worth every penny!

Background. Due to the current COVID19 pandemic, my wife and I both have to work from our home offices. We drive each other crazy with typing, phone calls, etc. Enter, some high quality, active noise.cancelling headphones. The setup was crazy easy. Launch software, hold device near phone, away we go. Felt great, fantastic noise cancelling, sounded good for ANC, and great device tuning via the app. USB C cable (micro and mini are no longer allowed in our home), a nice carrying case, and all the wires/adapters I may need. Minor issue: The lack of TRRS (stereo sound +mic) support is annoying since the cheap ear buds that come with every phone since 2010 have it. However the close competitor (Bose 700) also lack this support. (Not subtracting a star for that). Unfortunately, the lack of multipoint support made using it on my laptop for VOIP calls and on my cell phone for direct calls overly complicated for both my wife and I. At $350 (currently $300) it was only $50 (formerly $400, now $350) away from the similarly rated Bose 700. If I'm in for $300 another $50 to check all of my boxes is an obvious choice. At $350, there was no real "cost" reason for Sony to skip on this feature. If these Sony headphones had multipoint, I'd still have two pair of these WH1000 instead of two pairs of Bose 700s.

I wear NC headphones in two situations: on airplanes and at work. At work, we have an open office plan where noise is a big problem, so I wear them every day, almost all day. I've used the Bose NC headphones for many years (QC25 and now QC35 II) and the comfort level is top notch. However, they are only OK at blocking voices, so I picked up the Sony WH-1000XM3 based on good reviews. The NC on the Sony WH-1000XM3 is absolutely better than the Bose QC35 II, but not by a huge margin. Compared with the Bose, there is less background hiss on the Sony and they do a slightly better job of blocking voices. Both are very, very good at eliminating noise like our heating system. Additionally, the Sony headphones sound great with music, definitely an improvement over the QC35 II which were just "OK". I also like the USB-C port on the Sony WH-1000XM3. Now we get to the downsides. The buttons and touchpad on the Sony WH-1000XM3 are a pain. It's easy to jump tracks when you are trying to change volume. It's also much harder to turn the WH-1000XM3 on and off - on the Bose, you just flip the switch, on the WH-1000XM3 you have to hold down a small button which (unfortunately) is also used for Bluetooth pairing. These are minor complaints, but I do prefer the QC35 II here. The Bose QC35/QC35 II support two devices at the same time. The Sony WH-1000XM3 only supports one, which is a bummer if you are also using your headphones with a PC. The Sony WH-1000XM3 is slightly bigger, slightly heavier, and has a bulkier case than the QC35 II. This is also minor, but, again, I prefer the Bose. All of this would be "OK", and I would probably keep the Sony WH-1000XM3 because of the (slightly) better noise cancelling and audio quality. However, the WH-1000XM3 has a big problem for me at least in terms of comfort. They are noticeably warmer and put more pressure on my ears, which (because I wear glasses) makes them uncomfortable after about an hour of wear. For a product that I wear for 6+ hours a day, this is a problem. At the end of the day, I just prefer the QC35 II in terms of size/weight, convenience in terms of buttons, and, most critically, comfort. The Sony WH-1000XM3 isn't *bad* in any of those categories, but for all the talk of them dethroning the Bose QC35 II, they certainly don't for me. If you care more about the absolute best noise cancellation or audio quality, the Sony WH-1000XM3 is a good choice too. But if you plan on wearing them for an extended period of time, I would see if you can try them on for a few hours.

I absolutely love these headphones. I don't know if I will ever go back to anything lesser than this pair. First off I'm an over-the-ear kind of person, and I appreciate that Sony has really picked up their game to give you comfort and sound quality all in the same headphones. The noise canceling feature along with the long battery life are features I greatly appreciate too. These headphones are great for traveling. I really didn't know how much I appreciated them until after my headphones (with a little music) muted out a very upset toddler a couple of rows behind me on a 12-hour flight from Germany to San Francisco. It made my trip so much more enjoyable. His headphones come with the pretty big price tag, but you really are paying for quality.

These are by far the best and still to this date optimal noise canceling headphones I have ever bought. The noise canceling activates as soon as you turn them on and connects to your phone, everything else is silent. Music quality is perfect, nice bass and overall amazing voice assistant along with call quality. For the price point at which they are at, yes they are worth every penny. I was blown away by how good they were that I even bought myself the earphone version of these, and they are just as great. If you are a music/audio guru these are headphones you would want to get, there is no better option. I have had friends recommend the bose and while those are amazing, these felt much better to me.

Sony has always had really good headphones and the WH-1000XM3 are no exception. Great sounds low, highs and mid- range. Wireless connectivity/power status (on or Off) is simple and modern with Sony audible headphone assistant. ("Bluetooth Connected", "Power On" or Power Off" or % of power remaining. The charging capacity is amazing - up to 5 hours of playtime. Google Assistant is really cool for use mainly from a Android phone. I can select a song to play simply by holding down the assistant button or just saying "ok Google", "Play "Artist" on Spotify" or "Samsung Music" or "Google Play Music". ". You can’t go wrong with these headphones and with BestBuy’s return/exchange policy I believe you can swap them out within 14 days. Ask your sales person for details.

These are the best noise canceling headphones you can get your hands on the market right now. Comfort is top notch, with a cut out in the memory foam for users with glasses to improve wear for the majority, and the bands are very flexible and cushy for maximum comfort. But this is objective, for some of us the competitor Bose QC25 II are better fit for the user. Sound quality is where it blows everyone else out in terms of noise canceling Bluetooth headphones. They cut out all the bass, which makes it perfect for car rides. Ambient noise setting also allows you to hear everything around you, enough so that you can even have a conversation with another person with light music playing. These are by far the best sounding headphones that are hosted in a noise canceling headphones. Best choice as of now, totally recommend you get your hands on these.

based on other online sites, i had narrowed down my choices between this and the comparable bose headset. recently traveled overseas and while on the plane or train, the sony had very noticeable ambient noise reduction, deep bass, good midrange, and crystal clear highs/treble. interesting enough, my friend has the bose headset and i actually used it to compare performance: the sony had better noise cancelling features while the bose seemed to produce slightly more full/dynamic sound. unless you are an audiophile, you probably won't notice it; there's also a sony app that easily syncs these cans to your phone, where you can personalize your listening preferences to the types of music being played. overall, you can't go wrong with these headphones, and they are highly recommended.
