After only having these very expensive headphones fit a short time, the left ear does not work. If you plan on purchasing these, buy the extra warranty, or just don’t buy from Best Buy due to them shrugging customer satisfaction for their profits.

Hi BluJaySong, we regret to hear that the headphones did not meet your expectations. We appreciate all of your feedback as it helps improve the product. If the noise canceling effect is not sufficient. Please try the following:

Make sure that the noise canceling function is turned on.
Adjust the earpad position to fit your ears.
The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.

You can also download the Sony | Headphones Connect App. It includes Adaptive Sound Control—which automatically adjusts noise canceling based on your activity and an equalizer—which can be customized to fine-tune your music. I hope this helps but if you still need assistance, do not hesitate to drop us an email at [email protected] with the following details:

    Really impressive noise canceling

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had the 1000X from a few years ago and was always pretty impressed at the sound quality and noise canceling ability that came with those headphones. However, the fit was kind of tight and the micro usb felt dated at the time..and has only felt more dated since then. So here I am, being totally blown away by both the giant fan behind me (that I can't hear when audio is playing..and can only kind of hear without audio playing..) and the new WH-1000XM3. It's incredible how it fixes all of the minor issues I had with the OG and improves on all the things I thought that set was already near-perfect with. The noise canceling is incredible. The sound quality is thoroughly good, whether you're using it with the 3.5mm jack or over bluetooth. The fit is basically perfect. I have no problem believing Sony's claim that the battery is good for 30 hours since the 1000X's battery never really died on me. I always charged it just out of concern with how long it'd been since the last charge. It even uses USB-C for charging now! However, the biggest gripe I had with the 1000X remains on the 1000XM3: the touch controls are jank. When they work they're fine, but when they don't work, it's kind of frustrating. I'll double-tap to pause..only to go to the next track. I'll swipe to change songs..only to decrease the volume. I wish that Sony would come up with a better control method because the touch controls don't feel futuristic even when they're working, and they feel almost malicious when they're not. But that is an incredibly minor complaint in the overall scheme of things. When I think of what I want in headphones, the 1000XM3 checks every single box. The sound quality is fantastic. The noise canceling is better than any set I've ever tried. The battery life is unbelievable. Even the bluetooth reliability is top-notch - I've been through many pairs of headphones, and every single set has had trouble getting up and running in my workplace. There's just so much wireless junk around that every set I've tried needs nearly a full minute before the audio isn't cutting out. The 1000XM3 usually don't experience a single hiccup - and when it does, it's just when I get in the building, for about 2 seconds..barely even noticeable. If you're in the market for premium headphones that perfectly fill every role, stop here, you've found them. I can't think of any other set that does everything so well without compromises Sony, if you're reading this. please figure out those touch controls. This really shouldn't be an issue by gen3.

I loved these except -- only my phone could find the Bluetooth connection and I need them for long work Zooms on my computer -- to sit farther from my desk and still see co workers on screen. I troubleshot, visited Sony site, adjusted settings, even purchased a new 4.0 Bluetooth dongle, still neither my desktop PC nor high end Lenovo laptop could find these headphones so I am reluctantly returning them. Suspicion -- on the box is says these headphones are designed for the iPhone. I had checked the website material carefully and chose phones that will work with Google Assistant, but apparently that compatibility handshake isn't broad enough.

I loved these headphones so much... until about 14 months of ownership when they stopped working. They charge, they work if connected directly, but do not turn on at all. So now they are no longer noise cancelling or wireless. I've done hard reset as advised on troubleshooting forums and all. For the price you pay, I expected better quality from this Sony product. I'm hoping to get warranty support soon. In meantime... I had to leave this unfortunate review of 1 star since I only got a little more than a year out of these before this major issue.

Wow! I have an array of Bluetooth ear gizmos ... and they all serve their purpose in and around conversational sound levels ... but none of them worked very well in noisy situations. I’m not an audiophile, and having earbuds to work out, earbuds for work calls, earbuds for (you get the picture), I REALLY struggled with buying yet another headset. After wringing my hands for a couple months, followed by multiple trips to BestBuy, I took the plunge. My only regret is wasting so much time making the decision. Here’s why: Flights are transformed from barely tolerable to relaxing ... the sound quality is as if you were in a quiet room. You don’t just hear every word and nuance ... you hear them as if in your living room. Taking a 10 minute break from stress at the office or wherever is as easy as powering these things on. I downloaded some nature tracks (rain and ocean sounds), and I can now watch my heart rate fall as I just take a breath after stressful calls or meetings. The noise canceling “pressure” on my eardrums is MUCH less than Bose products (which I hold in high esteem as I’ve used their pilot headsets for years). I think this is one of the things that really helps me relax with the Sony ... the lack of whatever that noise cancelling feeling is helps me “let go” and descend into music or a movie. The controls are EASY. All that stuff looked like gimmicks as I did my research, but it took me about two minutes to realize Sony has really figured the controls out and made them useful. The case is top notch ... sized perfectly ... and protective. Comfortable!!! The most comfortable thing short of my favorite ball cap. Long battery life and Sony app. I barely made a dent in the headset battery after music on two flights and watching a movie in the airport lounge ... and the app allowed me to change equalizers which REALLY helped as I went from some bass-heavy riffs to voice heavy books on tape. That matters on a noisy airplane. In my honest opinion, Sony got these headphones perfect. I literally cannot think of a single improvement.

I don't know if I can say enough good things about these headphones! Right out of the box you can tell you are holding a very well built piece of equipment. It has a nice solid and sturdy feel in your hand and its easy to maneuver the pieces to get it in and out of the provided carrying case. I've had headphones before that I was paranoid to even put on cause it felt like they were going to fall apart. Also in the box you get a audio cable if you don't want to use the Bluetooth functionality and a very, very, very short charging cable..its literally like 6 inches. Once you put these on and get them synced up (which is very easy) you are ready to go! You can also download the Sony app for these headphones and it allows you to tweak things even further. As soon as you turn these headphones on you will be amazed at how it just turns off the outside world. I first put them on where I had a loud AC unit going right outside my window, and just like that it was like it turned off, I couldn't hear it at all! It was amazing! I mainly used these headphones hard wired cause im a bit of an audiophile and I dont always like the compression in Bluetooth. I plugged them into my computer and fired yo a few high rez flac files. These headphones are very well balanced. Not too heavy on bass, and not too heavy on high end. They had a very nice even and balanced sound. ...and the sound quality is amazing! If you don't quite like the way they sound, you can also adjust the EQ in the app to make it more to your liking. I also did try using the headphones through Bluetooth as well and they sounded just as good and had a very awesome range. I was playing music in my home computer in the house while I was outside mowing the lawn. It didn't skip a beat! I found that the gesture controls worked very well. You can swipe up and down or left and right to control the volume and skip tracks as well as hold down another button to activate the built in google assistant....very cool feature!! Overall, I am amazed by these headphones. They arent cheap, but if they fit in your budget, I would highly recommend them! One thing I did want to mention about the noise canceling. IT works best with constant sounds like fans or crowd noise and stuff like that. I am a drummer and I have a electronic drum set. I tried them with that and the audio was a mess. It cant really handle a lot of quick sudden spikes in audio. It doesn't know how to eliminate that and kind of freaks out a little bit. I know that's a very narrow problem so I didn't really take off points for it. But In the rare case a drummer is reading this and might want to try them with electronic kits, it wont work very well.

For the longest time, if you wanted best-in-class noise canceling with excellent sound, there was only one game in town. With the release of the Sony WH-1000XM3, you now have a choice. TL;DR – if you’re deciding between this Sony and “the other guys,” get the one that fits you better. That said, these headphones edge out the competition on noise canceling and sound quality. There are differences in usability, however, that might sway you one way or the other. • Playback Controls: For volume and playback control, these use swipe gestures on the right cup. Swiping the right cup up/down changes volume; swiping forward/backwards changes track; and double tapping toggles play/pause. More often than not, I found myself swiping diagonally which meant I’d end up switching tracks when I wanted to change volume. My preference is to have buttons over gestures, though gestures are more convenient once you do it right. • Ambient Sound Control: I love the Quick Attention Mode. When you cover the entire right cup with your hand, the headset temporarily turns down the volume and lets you hear ambient sound. Removing your hand immediately turns off Quick Attention Mode. Extremely useful when you need to briefly chat with a flight attendant, colleague, or hear announcements. You can also toggle ambient sound via a button on the left side, or adjust ambient volume via the headphone’s app. The other guy’s headphones don’t have a quick attention feature. • Noice Canceling: I find Sony’s NC on par with the perceived market leader, and did slightly better masking out TV noise. One discernible difference is the Sony leaves a higher pitched background than the other ones. For all practical purposes, however, both are very effective and way ahead of any other brand. • Comfort: Very light, well cushioned, and easy to wear for long stretches. The cups are slightly smaller than the other ones, which makes them a better fit for my wife than for me. • Sound Quality: Excellent on its own, and, the app allows further customization. Overall sound is a bit brighter with crisper highs than the other one. This is likely the DSEE HX feature at work. The Sonys edge out the other guys here. • Bluetooth: You can have multiple sources connected if one device is for music playback and the other is for talking. To do this, you designate the music source as an A2DP connection, and the talking source as HFT/HSP. The other guy’s headset is far easier and more functional on this feature, and one that I use constantly. Bottom line is if you’re looking for premium NC headphones, these should be on your shortlist.

One of the headphone stems broke off inside just after 1 year and Sony would not replace. My mistake at not buying geek squad like usual. But it was clearly a defect as this was kept in the original case and always treated carefully. Broke off where it swiveled to be put into case. Clearly no marks on item. They refused any compensation or even to fix unless I paid them $100 to look at the item. NEVER AGAIN SONY!

The plastic near the ear pieces broke while adjusting. I had to apply electrical tape to keep them closed. Otherwise it will fall apart and expose the wiring. These headphones stayed at home and were only used by me to watch TV and listen to music. Not very much bass. Noise canceling is almost non-existent in certain situations. You can hear talking as if the person is right next to you but it will block fan noise. I regret this expensive purchase.
