Noise canceling works even without music if you need to drown out the neighbors or a family member. Easy pairing with mobile device. Great battery life. Wish the buttons were easier to identify, but once you know what to push everything is fine.

I am a long time Bose QC owner, but when we partner started traveling more for work I started shopping for a second pair. I was going to get the updated Bose QC II, but after weeks of reading countless reviews I decided to try these Sonys. I am so HAPPY. The audio quality is definitely better than the Bose. I also find that the noise cancelling works for me and can't tell any difference from my Bose. However, I have yet to ride on the airplane with them so we will see. My primary joy of having the Bose was for drowning out the airplane noises. So far the SONY has been perfect for work and subway commute. I love that I can hold my hand over the earcup to listen to someone. I also love that it has swipe controls. I do not use the Google Assistant feature as I don't use any voice activated type assistant.

The sharp microphones inside are touching the ears

The protruding sharp microphones inside the cans are touching the ears. In a few hours of wearing the headphones the ears start aching. Many other noise cancellation headphones have the same problem. Also the ears become very hot in these headphones, which does’t feel comfortable. The sound is emphasizing bass. The high frequencies are present, but they are much less noticeable than in Bose 700, but little better than in Bose 35 II. Overall the sound feels warm and the sound quality is good but not perfect. The AptX support allows to use these headphones with TV. It’s even better than AptX Low Latency which is always shaping.

      Hi, Dmitry!

The headband of these headphones is adjustable. We suggest adjusting it according to the size of your head to minimize any discomfort while wearing the headphones. We appreciate your feedback, and we will forward this to the relevant team.

I spent the last 12 hours researching every possible website from CNET to Audioreview and did NOT want to believe the Sony WH-1000XM3 were the best ones out there, I was sold on Bose 700 but wow when I got to Best Buy and spent 30 minutes rotating from all of Bose, all of Beats and then this Sony, it was obvious this was indeed the best choice. I have only had them today but I am absolutely blown away with the ease of operation, quality of the product, music quality and NC ability. First flight with these is next week, that will be the real test!!

Bought these over other brands hoping the noise canceling would be good since I have a wood workshop and a lot of noise. Decided to try them on the 42" riding lawn mower with the engine 100% revved and twin blades turning. Very noisy. Didn't understand as I should have how the noise cancelling buttons 3 positions worked. Started mowing and could still hear mower and had to have music up. Got ready to put the mower up and toughed the noise canceling button which actually put it in noise canceling mode and was treated to ABSOLUTE quite from mower and wonderful music. When I say ABSOLUTE I mean I heard NO mower sounds. Incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Awesome NC, sound is decent

Ok, to start off, the noise cancelling on these things are the best you're going to find. The other features like USB-C, the connect app, and others are really well done too. Just the sound isn't my favorite. I own a B&W P7 and still prefer those more for just listening to music. They are around the same price too. I feel like soundstage on these aren't as good. The bass also sounds muddled. I like bass to be more punchy and defined. If you play around with the equalizer the sound can actually sound a lot better. But it's kind of a hassle because it resets frequently and the app is only on my iPhone, not MacBook Pro. One big thing that's missing on these headphones is the inability to switch devices connected straight from the headphone. If you have a lot of the devices like me and toggle between your laptop, phone, tablet, etc, it becomes annoying. I think I'm going to switch over to the Bose QC 35 II just because I like the sound signature more, has better mids than these, and easily switch between devices. I am going to miss the USB-C and better NC though.

The noise canceling is truly amazing, as is the sound quality. I've never been under 60% battery life. Bottom line is that when these die, I hope whatever is out is similar to these.

My Research Led Me to the Sony-WH-1000XM3

I researched over-the-ear headphones as well as physically tested many brands. I don't want to get into the details but let me say this. I was staying within a certain budget and I could have spent more to get what I wanted. After purchasing these headphones, I did not need to spend more to get superb quality. The noise canceling is GREAT! I can turn it off temporarily by using my palm or just push a button. This way you can hear when others talk. I also like the auxiliary cable that comes with it if you just want to plug them up. The headphones are louder with the cable. GREAT PRODUCT!

    BUY THESE

I'm a Bose guy. I LOVE every thing about Bose. But, then I noticed I own several products from Sony and have quite good luck with them. What got me to purchase these head phones are the reviews on this site. Then I went to the store and did one more "Test drive" of the Bose and these. What changed my mind is the Sound canceling...These Sonys actually are shockingly quiet. The sound is on par with Bose AND these have some cool features: Cup the right ear and it will allow you to hear the Ambient sounds and conversations if needed. Seriously give these a look (um, Listen) vs. Bose.

    2nd pair works great

The first pair i purchased mentioned that issue with the phone calls this model can have, where it is very difficult to hear the caller and they have a difficult time hearing you. I exchanged my pair for a new one and have not run into the issue. Love the sound and noise canceling features. The one hand features on the right ear are very useful and easy to adapt to.

I love these headphones. Compared these to Bose and these won out. I don't use these for phone purposes so it's not an issue for me, as some reviewers stated. I don't travel anymore but I wish I had them when I was a frequent flyer flying back & forth from San Diego to Pittsburgh. I use these typically to drown out a noisy tv and I listen to my music. The sound quality is amazing. Love love love the right headphone features. Just perfect in every way. I'm so glad I purchased. The only thing I would change is the women's voice. It's very annoying.

    Best Just Got Better

I don't shell out $350 for just any pair of headphones, but these have been a godsend to my issue of finding a quiet place to study. I tried both the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 ii and the Sony WH-1000XM3's on in the store and ran them through their paces. As you can tell by this review, I chose the Sony's. Comfort The Bose win in this area. The ear cups are slightly deeper and the clamping force is less than that of the Sony's. I don't experience sweaty ears with either model, but I have to give credit where credit is due. The Bose just feel better. Noise Cancellation Sony wins, no contest. Sound Quality The Bose sound crystal clear, but lack the sound definition and bass of the Sony's. If you only listen to classical music, the Bose may be enough. If you listen to anything modern, you will appreciate the "thump" the Sony's provide. Appearance The Sony's are more simplistic in design, where the Bose have more physical buttons. The Sony's are considerable larger. Everyone is going to have a different answer, but for me Sony takes the cake. Durability This is the main area that caused me to go back and forth between the two. I have read that many of the 1st and 2nd gen Sony's have had issues cracking around the headband. Since I have only had these headphones for 2 days, I cannot accurately speak for durability. Solely based on looks, the Bose appear to be made better. I would definitely baby the Sony's and maybe use a different set for gym use. Application Bose wins in this department (at least with the play store). The Sony app needs some major TLC. Price Neither of these headphones should cost $350. However, it must not be too much due to the success of each unit. $250 would be much more reasonable. Perhaps they could offer 2 different models to appeal to a wider audience, a pure ANC set for around $250 and an ANC set with Google Assistant for $350. Brand Popularity This is one of my favorite things about these headphones. you don't see them all the time. Overall If noise cancellation is your goal, these are the headphones for you. If you are simply looking for a nice sounding set of Bluetooth headphones, many other sets can be had for cheaper.

Expensive but they do the job

I bought these for my commute which includes commuter rail, subway and bus. They really work well to decrease external noise. I wouldn't say they eliminate all noise; I can still hear some sounds in the vocal range but put on some music at a low volume and it covers that right up. I don't even hear the train horn when I'm in the first car if I have music playing. That can be dangerous because I don't hear them announce my stop either! I don't think the audio quality is on-par with high-end studio headsets but for my purposes that was secondary to the noice-cancelling ability. I really appreciate having an "ambient sound" mode. One button press and it doesn't feel quite as dangerous walking around with the headset on through the city. There are a few things that are a little annoying. First, you have to use a mobile app to change some of the more advanced settings. There is a calibration function built into the headset though so you may not need the app. I used it when I first got the headset but honestly I haven't touched it since. The other slightly annoying thing is that the touch sensor on the right ear is pretty sensitive. You use that to raise and lower the volume or skip track forward or backward. Sometimes I want to change the volume but end up skipping a song or something. Not the end of the world though. I also like the feature where you can cup your hand over the right earpiece and it mutes the music and turns on the external microphones so you can talk to someone easily without removing the headset. I read some reviews that mentioned mechanical problems. Because of the folding design there may be some weaknesses there but I haven't had any problems. I am careful putting them on and taking them off without twisting things and I always return the headset to the hard case when I take it off. All in all I'm very happy with the purchase. These headphones have made my commute much more bearable.

I am extremely happy with this product. It was at first a bit unsure of purchasing it — thought it was expensive, but now that I have used it for a few months I believe it was completely worth the money. The comfort and noise cancelling is excellent. The range of wireless ability with my iPhone X is incredible! I can put my phone at one end of my house and walk around anywhere and get a completely beautiful, very reliable link. I paired the phones with my iPhone using the recommended app. This took some time and effort to set up, but once that was completed the sound quality is very good (I did some custom EQing to brighten the phones up a bit). Thanks Sony for making a really nice piece of tech.
