Excellent headphones with great features
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent noise cancelling. Great sound quality. Easily links with my Sony XBR 75” TV. Haven’t had one issue with them. Use them at night so I don’t bother my GF when I’m watching TV or listening to music. Sometimes use them to listen to Spotify or other services when vacuuming etc. The noise cancelling blocks out the vacuum without sacrificing sound quality. Can control certain features of the TV through a light touch. Highly recommend.

Great For Long Flight
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wile and I each purchased the Sony Headphones for an trip to Europe from the Oregon. The flight is a 10 hour nonstop flight. These earphones provided incredible noise cancellation. The roar of the engines could barely be heard. The sound quality on the airplane audio for movies and for music was enhanced immeasurably. With my previous noise cancelling headphones I still could not listed to classical music on the fight. There was a constant drone. (Those of you have tried to listen to classical music from airplane audio on a flight will know what I am talking about.) Not with the WH-1000XM3. The music was beautifully clear. It was the most enjoyable fight. Whether I used headphones for purely noise reduction or for audio listening they worked incredibly. Best flight ever.

easily the best headphones ive ever had.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.AMAZING leather quality! Really comfortable to wear for extended periods while gaming or binge watching Netflix. The only way to describe the sound is that it really is the best headphones I've ever had.. really high quality all around, and the different settings within the app are amazing! I haven't had any major issues with connectivity, although I've read of other people having problems in this area? the only problem I have had has been the touchpad controls on the side of the right ear. It would be nice to have some kind of physical relief, like a few bumps arranged in a "plus" symbol to guide your fingers as you need to be very exact with your motions to make it function how you want it to? its pretty bad, im not gonna lie.. but its tolerable for how good they sound?

Lives up to the hype!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'd heard about the Sony WH1000XM2 and was eager to try these M3's. I've owned some really good headphones over the years from Bose, Beats, Sennheiser and Audio-Technica among others. I heard the Sony M2's could hang with pretty much anything out there, at least among consumer grade. They were consistently highly rated and professional reviewers seemingly couldn't gush enough over them. I never got a chance to listen to a pair of M2's but I can confirm these M3's sound really, really good. I thought my current Panasonic RP-HD605N's sounded really good but these Sony M3's sound phenomenal. The treble and midrange are nice and clear while the bass punches strong without sounding loose or muddy. Listening to music through these is like being in a listening booth. Everything just sounds so clear and sharp with no hint of outside noise. The noise-cancelling works excellent, completely blocking out all outside ambient noise. It's not as good on the other side, with detectable noise leakage but only at high volumes. If sitting in public next to someone, it's better not to blast these if you want to be a good neighbor. Battery life is good for my needs. I get an entire day but I wear it at different times throughout the day, not continuously for long periods. The quality feels solid. Time will tell how well the hinges, wires and plastic parts hold up but it doesn't feel particularly fragile. The faux leather ear cups are buttery soft and very comfortable. I don't feel excessive pressure and they don't make my ears hot. The padded headband is also very soft and comfortable. The gesture driven right ear cup controls are finally easy headphone controls for me to operate. I love the feature of cupping the right ear to instantly mute the headphones and disable noise cancelling so it allows outside sounds in. It's great for when someone has a question, you have to listen to an announcement or other temporary interruptions. The design is also very nice. At first, I thought the black may be too boring looking and that maybe I should have gotten the silver color. However, I really like the black with it's subtle rose gold accents. It's understated just enough to look high-end without going overboard and venturing into flashy. Some like flashy headphones but I don't. That's not a knock against liking flashy. I simply prefer stylish but low key. That's exactly what these are. The Sony companion app works okay so far. It assists with pairing, provides firmware updates and has an EQ along with other sound adjusting features. I use the bass boost preset and even with it enabled, the bass is still nice and clean. Those looking for really deep teeth rattling sonic bass may be a bit disappointed but most listeners will likely find the bass sufficient. Bluetooth connectivity is excellent with no skipping or dropping. It was easy to pair, even through the app. I was initially wary of the app because it had really low ratings with most users complaining about Bluetooth issues. Thankfully, the app works fine and I haven't experienced any Bluetooth issues within or outside the app. I can say that these Sony WH1000XM3's live up to the hype. I felt like some of the reviews were hyperbole based on the enthusiasm of the reviewers but these headphones really do sound as good as claimed. I'm sure some truly pure long time audiophile can find some little issue(s) with these to nitpick but the average user who just wants to hear good sounding music will be more than satisfied. I know I am.

Best in class
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have owned several similarly priced headphones and these are far and away the best- noise cancelling, mixed audio, and fit. If you’re near this price point give these a try for sure. Only downside is stupid Bluetooth pairing app.

Looks Great, Sound Fantastic
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was a toss up between this or the Bose (that also cost $350) for noise canceling and high quality sound. Having tried both in store, I honestly couldn't tell the difference. Realistically, I could probably care less. I used this on a roundtrip flight and the noise canceling was phenomenal. However, one good thing I found out since buying is that this headphone uses USB-C to charge. That meant I could use my phone cables and not worry about having a separate cord. The only slight downside is that I'm not a fan of touch-sensor controls, especially when it's on the side of the headphones. How do you see? I wish they were physical or had bumps. In the end, I just turned them off, via app, so I wouldn't accidentally change songs or volume. Overall, a great buy.

Mostly better than Bose, but..
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used Bose headphones for the past few years and currently own the QC-35, to which I will compare these new Sony headphones. The Sony WH-1000 MX3 come is a very well designed case which is compartmentalized is a way that allows you to put away the headphones in the dark without fumbling around. There is a place for the included USB C charging cord as well as the airplane adapter and wired connection cable. The headband is designed to be closer to the head than the Bose, which gives the appearance of the headphones being less bulky when wearing them. However, the earcups are still noticeably wider than the Bose. This, however, is probably due to all of the additional tech that Sony has put into these headphones. These are very comfortable headphones and the earcups are very soft agianst the head. But the Bose are lighter and still more comfortable when wearing for an extended period of time. As comfortable as the Sony headphones are, there was never a time that I could honestly say that I forgot I was wearing them. I can honestly say that with the Bose. When I tried to power on the headphones I was surprised to find that they had arrived completely dead. I charged them for the recommended 3 hours, but it only held the charge for about 20 minutes, the time it took to do the update. Then it died and the power went to zero. I had to charge it overnight before it would fully charge and maintain the power. Once it was fully charged and powered on I was finally able to appreciate the true brilliance of these headphones. I found the sound to be superior to the Bose. Though a little too bassy for me, I was able to adjust it to my listening taste with the help of the equalization settings in the app. There are only 2 buttons. They are on the left earcup, and they are easy to locate and very intuitive. When powered on, a press of the power button will tell you how much power you have left, however, Bose will announce that automaically every time you turn the power on, which I prefer. I love the gesture controls on the right earcup. These allow you to control volume, skip ahead and go back and answer calls. However, my favorite gesture is cupping the right earcup. This will stop noise cancellation and lower the volume so that you may hear conversation. Technology way ahead of Bose. I also like the Noise Canceling Optimizer. With the touch of a button, the headphones perform a quick test which analyzes how you are waearing your headphones. It can detect if you are wearing glasses or earrings, how you are wearing your hair or anything else that may be affecting noise cancellation. It then makes the necessary adjustments in order to maximize noise cancellation. This is not a gimmick. It actually works. Brilliant technology and useful. In direct comparison, the Sony noise cancellation is better in 2 ways. 1) It's simply quieter 2) Sony uses a technology that does not cause pressure in your ear, as the Bose tends to do. Even after you are use to it, you will notice it on a very long flight. The Sony app is also superior. It allows for sound cutomization and ambient sound customization. It can detect your current activity, such as walking or traveling, and will automatically adjust the ambient sound to your environment. And I can tell you that I found this to be effective and accurate. Sony has installed a microphone on each earpiece to improve telephone conversation quality. I found call conversation to be clear on both ends of the call. Sony claims 30 hours of battery with noise cancellation. Bose claims 20-25. I have never come close to running out of power with the Bose and I expect the same from Sony. Where Sony comes out ahead is a 10 minute charge will give you 5 hours of play time. You can also setup Google Assistant, which is also available on the Bose. I like this feature and find it helpful. Where Sony fails is on quality control. There is a big difference in the quality control between the left earpiece and right earpiece. The right earpiece foam cup and interior material is sewn in smoothly. But the left earcup material was sewn in improperly and is bunched up. This, along with the initial battery issues, should not happen on high end headphones. Bose never had this issue. The other issue I have is that these headphones will only connect to 1 device at a time. The Bose will connect to 2 devices simultaneously. This allows me to watch a movie on a tablet or laptop, and if I receive a call or text, the Bose will automatically pause the movie, announce my call or text and allow me to repond. After i hangup, I can continue watching the movie. This comes in very handy at airport terminals. Unless this is a patented Bose technology, there is no excuse for Sony to not incorporate this feature into all of the headphones. In summary, these are excellent headphones that I will use and problably love. The Sony technology is state of the art and way ahead of Bose. I would be happy to recommend them, however, I am not throwing out my Bose just yet.
