I could give 5 stars because overall they are a great pair of headphones and the ANC works like a charm, but the mic... is one of the worst mics I have ever tried, I get very frustrated every time I get a call, I have to take them off in order to take the call, other wise they will not hear me

After searching online for almost a month for a good headphone, i found this to be a great set. I mostly wear it with my samsung tv. Movies sound is very good and music sound is awesome. My only complaint is that after a while my ears hurts a little bit. Need to stretch the headphones a little bit. But overall i do recommend it.

I've been using my Sony WH-1000XM2 a lot and was quite happy with them, however when I tried the new WH-1000XM3 model - I was blown away! Sound quality improved significantly especially in the bass range. Bass does not sound boomy or artificial, it's a very naturally sounding headphones! Headphone design improved as well, they even became 1oz lighter than a previous model! Fit is very comfortable, very light pressure around ears. Noise suppression is about the same as in previous model, it does work really well and suppresses the outside world noise dramatically, allowing you to enjoy music. It won't make airplane noise go away completely though. Headphones are now equipped with a USB-C port for charging, battery life is advertised as 30 hours, but that would depend on volume level, surrounding nosie and music quality (it's possible to chose a power saving codec in the app to save battery life). Battery level can be checked by quickly taping the power button. Controls - I'm not a biggest fan of touch sensitive and find it harder to get used to than regular buttons. Right ear cup's outer surface is a one big touch panel that you can use to control volume (swipe up/down), play/pause (double tap), switching songs (swipe back and forward) or a special "attention mode" when sound volume is reduced down to like 1% and noise cancelling is shut off - this is activated by covering the right earcup with your whole palm (looks a little awkward). I do not often use voice assistants as I don't typically want to disturb people sitting around me so addition of Google Assistant into the headphones was not a significant advantage for me personally, but it's there if you need it! Carrying case - finally allows for cords to be packed inside, thank you Sony! Case is well made and easy to pack into carry-on. Overall - it's a great choice for anyone who needs active noise cancellation, sound quality is outstanding even via Bluetooth (headphones support Bluetooth 4.2, AAC and LDAC high resolution codecs). Long battery life and quick charging (10 minutes of charging should allow for 10 hours of play time).

Poor Build Quality - Headband cracked < 60 days

I will only grant this product one star for the benefit of its 'good' audio quality. It is definitely nowhere close to my HD800S or even my HD600 from Sennheiser but good enough for travel and casual book reading. HOWEVER, this headphone has an appallingly pathetic build quality for a premium product. To compare, my HD600 ($370) for only one year has suffered far worse abuses such as being yanked off a table, sat on, and more but this one, oh boy. I bought this back on 01/19/2019 to replace my damaged Boss QuietComfort II which unfortunately snapped due to being roughed-housed by my little cousin. So far it has been 58 days and I have coddled it as I always do with new things. Kept it in its container when unused and carefully extracted from my head when I'm done with it. The headband cracked on the left side, particularly, around the plastic compound that serves as the mouth for the extendable plastic band. I've taped it temporarily as it gapes open when I wear it with the arms extended all the way for the time being while I seek out warranty options from Sony. Looking around online forums, however, suggests that they would reject a warranty claim for these cheaply built cans which is a shame for they have decent if not bass-heavy audio reproduction. I don't regret not getting Best Buy's Geek Squad replacement service as I now know to permanently avoid these products especially Sony's Headphones. They built them cheap while selling them for a premium. Get something else like the Quiet Comfort II which has a slightly better build quality. I would press for Sennheisers HD series but they're not exactly built for being carried around which is quite a shame.

Being a constant user of noise cancelling headphones I consider myself to be somewhat of an expert. I have been wanting to try the newest version of the Sony 1000 series since their release to see how they compared to my go-to favorite which everyone says is the standard. I received them in the standard white Sony box and opened them to see a very nice, rigid carrying case and a quick start guide. Oepning the case revealed the black, sturdy looking headphones, an audio cable and an airline adapter. The headphones have some weight to them but nothing overly heavy. The lettering on the headphones is a distinctive copper color that adds to their appeal. Lots of cushioning at the ears and top of the headphone band looks to give lots of comfort. Although they are plastic, they seem to be well built and sturdy. I got the set paired up and ready to use (and downloaded the Sony App to help customize the headphones) and got some music ready to go I a rather noisy office. Once I turned them on, the world seemed to go away… Once the music began to play, I was all by myself with the music. I could not hear any outside noise or sounds. To test the ability to hear ambient sound (which is accomplished by placing your hand over the right earcup) I had office mates talk while listening to some loud music. It worked exceeding well during my tests and I really like this capability. The touch controls worked well and responded quickly. The headphones are very comfortable and when I wore them for an extended period (4 hours) I was not fatigued as with other headphones. Using them on a long flight should be just fine. The battery will definitely keep up as I got more than 20 hours on mine. So, are these the new top of the line noise cancelling headphones? If not, they are at least equal to the best. These are highly recommended and if you are looking for great headphones, you can stop your search here!

Having owned the already-excellent WH-1000XM2 headphones for almost a year, I was curious to see just how Sony could improve what were arguably the best headphones on the market. Long story short: they took the minor shortcomings of last year's model and went above-and-beyond to fix them, making the WH-1000XM3 headphones lighter, sleeker, and even better at noise cancellation. These seemingly minor changes add up to a significant upgrade. DESIGN AND COMFORT (5 Stars): - The 1000XM3 look similar to the 1000XM2, but don't be fooled. On the 1000XM3, the profile is more subtle and the ear cups don't seem to protrude out from your head as far. The headband has a closer fit, reducing the gap between the headband and your head. All told, the design is sleeker and much more refined. - The 1000XM3 are certainly more comfortable than last year's model, and they are much easier to wear for longer periods of time. This is due to adjustments in padding and weight. The padding around the ear cups and headband seems to be much more plush. Meanwhile, the weight of the 1000XM3 has dropped by 20 grams -- from 275 grams to 255 grams. It may seem small, but this weight difference is the first thing I noticed when putting on the 1000XM3 for the first time. - On the black model, the addition of bronze accents around the microphones and Sony logos is a nice touch and adds to the premium look of the 1000XM3. The included carrying case has also been given a more premium look and a sturdy nylon finish. - Summary: These are among the most comfortable and well-designed headphones I've used. I've worn them for hours on end over the past week and never once felt the need to remove them. The design is premium, sturdy, and utilitarian. Absolutely no complaints here. NOISE CANCELLATION (5 Stars): - Sony has added a new chip called the "HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1" to this year's model, claiming it has four times the signal processing power over the 1000XM2. This improvement is said to provide you more situational awareness when wearing these headphones in busy places. - So far, I've used the headphones in two very different situations: on a plane and at my desk in a busy office. On the plane, I set the noise cancelling to maximum in Sony's Connect app for iPhone and turned off ambient sound. It worked brilliantly -- perhaps the best noise cancellation I've ever experienced on a plane. At my office, I turned on ambient sound and chose the option to "focus on voice." When co-workers approach my desk from behind me, I can hear their voice when they get within a few feet of me and they don't have to tap on my shoulder. It's an excellent feature and works better than I expected. - The Sony Connect app also has a feature that can detect when you are walking, sitting still, running, or commuting. It then automatically adjusts the noise cancellation level to allow in certain sounds such as car horns or voices if necessary. If you wear your headphones around the city or while running, this could be an invaluable feature. - Summary: The 1000XM3 offer by far the best noise cancellation I've ever experienced from any headphones. The amount of customization and control offered is astounding and brings noise cancellation to a whole new level. FEATURES (5 Stars): - Like previous models, the 1000XM3 have a feature called Quick Attention, which is probably my favorite part of these headphones. If someone starts talking to you and you want to hear what they're saying without pausing your music or taking the headphones off, you can simply cover the touch pad of the right ear cup. The headphones will automatically lower the volume, reduce noise cancellation, and allow you to hear the voices and sounds around you. I love it and it's great for being able to talk with a flight attendant or seatmate on the plane. - The entire right ear cup is a touch pad that is intuitive and easy to use. You swipe up or down for volume control, left or right for track control, double-tap to play or pause, and a long press to activate Siri/Google Assistant. - Sony has taken a step toward the future by including USB-C on the 1000XM3. The connector on the charging cable is more compact and is reversible, so it's easier to plug in. - Battery life on the 1000XM3 remains at 30 hours, but the Quick Charging feature has been dramatically improved. Just 10 minutes of charging will give you five hours of playback. And it works as advertised -- I depleted the battery, charged it for 10 minutes, and then proceeded to use the headphones for almost an entire work day. - Summary: The feature set of the 1000XM3 is largely similar to its predecessor, but small changes like USB-C and improved Quick Charging are very welcome. SOUND QUALITY (5 Stars): - On the QN1 chip, Sony has also included an analogue amplifier which supposedly results in less distortion during audio playback. I'm no expert on audio quality, but to me, the 1000XM3 sound excellent -- even better than the 1000XM2. Highs are present but not overbearing. Vocals and mid-range are crisp and clear. There's plenty of bass and it's not overpowering. - There are some neat sound adjustments in the Sony Connect app, too: Sound Position Control lets you adjust the sense of sound field around you, as though you're listening to a band from the side or behind you. - Summary: You'll want to feed the 1000XM3 some high-quality audio tracks. Out of the box, these are the best-sounding headphones I've ever used. OVERALL: Sony has hit an absolute home run. Better design. More comfortable. Better noise cancellation. Better sound quality. I didn't think any of these things could get much better compared to last year's model, but I was wrong. If you want the best noise cancelling headphones on the market, stop looking. You're on the right page. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Just over a year old and the plastic headband slide on the left has cracked. It's just out of warranty. I do not recommend purchasing these for the build quality at this price point. For the most part I rarely used them until the pandemic, when I started using them daily for video conferencing and phone calls. It's been 2 months of daily use and clearly they can't stand up to the regular use. I purchased the Sony WH-1000XM3 for myself and also The Bose QC II 35s at the same time to replace the Beats I recieved as a gift (the cheap plastic on those broke just like the Sony headphones). Ultimately, my kiddos use the Bose set daily but I preferred the Sony for the sound quality and functionality. I now regret that decision. I am very disappointed that a nearly $400 set of headphones should not become an expensive paperweight so quickly. As an alternative to these, I would go with Sennheiser (but not meant for portability), V-moda (I've owned 2 pairs for over 5 years each without any issues until 6 years in), Bose QC35 II have surprisingly withstood abuse from my kids who use them as dedicated gaming headphones for the last year.

    World Class Noise Canceling Headphones!

These Sony WH-1000XM3 Noise Canceling headphones are truly exceptional. They are well built, incredibly comfortable and the battery life is a superb 30 hours. And with that, if you plug them in to charge for 10 mins, you get an additional 5 hours of life out of them. Way to go Sony! I have a pair of the leading competition to this new offering from Sony, which I used on a recent trip to Iceland. When I first put these Sony headphones on and turned on the noise canceling function, it was like how I imagine sticking your head into a vacuum in space. It was almost complete silence, unlike the competition! Turned on my 'goto' when using new headphones, Disturbed's version of 'The Sound of Silence'. It has a range of lows, highs, bass, heavy guitar and clean crisp vocals. To start with, it sounded 'ok'. But after turning on the Sony Headphones Connect app, there is a variety of controls in there that amp the sound up no end. Adaptive Sound Control: detects how you are using the headphones, if you are siting, standing, running etc and adjusts the noice canceling function appropriately. Ambient Sound Control: A manual versions of the above, allows you to focus on voice and mute out ambient sound. Noise Canceling Optimizer: Runs a routine with the headphones on your head, measures atmospheric pressure and adjusts the sounds based on your wearing preference. Sound Position Control: You are able to adjust where the sound field comes from around your head. This one stumbled me a little, as I get making the sounds a little more spatial, above you or in front of you, but you have control to position the sound to the front left, front right, rear left and rear right individually, not sure when you would use that. Sound (VPT): This gives you the opportunity to enhance the sound using preset parameters, including Arena, Club, Outdoor Stage, and Concert Hall. Equalizer: Allows custom adjustment of the Clear Bass signal and also 5 sound equalizers to fine tune the sound to your liking. Sound Quality Mode: You can choose a priority based on sound quality or a stable connection to your music source. DSEE HX: This Digital Sound Enhancement Engine enables you to be able to listen to your music library in near High Resolution Audio thanks to some clever monkeying around the Sony engineers came up with! Function of the Ambient button: You can configure this button to change the ambient sound of the headphones or control Google Assistant. Auto Power Off: You can adjust the time that elapses between non-use of the headphones and when they power down to conserve battery life. Overall, once the app is configured to your liking and your sound preferences, these headphones deliver clear vocals, nice punchy bass even when not turned up loud at all, and the noise canceling functionality beats the traditional front runner! And the trick up it's sleeve, the right hand ear cup is touch sensitive. Swipe up to turn up the volume, down to turn the volume down, swipe in front of you to advance a track and back to rewind. Double tap pauses, a second double tap resumes your music. A long press in the center activates Siri or Google Assistant and best of all, if you cup your whole hand over the right cup, your music fades down, noise cancelation stops, and the ambient volume kicks in, meaning you can hear the voices around you, amplified into the headphones, without the need to take the headphones off at all. Remove your hand from the cup and they go back to playing music at the volume you had set, with the noise canceling functionality back in place. Truly remarkable technology. Absolutely love these headphones. They are now my goto headphones that I carry into work every day!

The Sony WH 1000XM3 noise canceling headset is an over the ear headset that offers superb sound quality with adaptive noise canceling. The headset can be worn wireless or wired via a 3.5mm cable. For being a Sony high end headset the price point seems a little low in my opinion based on the hardware thats inside. However this is good for the consumer. Lets dive in and talk about some of the features and find out if this is a good fit for you. First off lets talk about what you can expect to receive out of the box real quick. Your going to get the headset, instructions, 3.5mm cable, usb-c cable but (but no power adapter), and a travel case. Set up is done very easily and can be accomplished either through Bluetooth or NFC. Sony offers a free app for most of their headsets and this one included. I highly recommend downloading the app due to all the features it unlocks on the headset. First thing i wanted to touch on was the power cable. It's running a usb-c cable, which is pretty much the way of the future however the cable they provide is very small. I'm talking about 6 inches or less and comes with no power outlet adapter. This means you need to charge this headset on a device with a USB port or buy an adapter. Luckily for me i have a few usb-c cables so i actually ended up throwing that cable away since it was so small and replaced it with another existing cable i already had. Now the app allows for some pretty nice features such as adaptive noise canceling, equalizers, and noise canceling optimizer just to name a few. There are only two buttons located on the left ear cup one is for power and the other controls noise cancellation. Now on the right ear cup there are functions built in that act like buttons but they are invisible touch controls. I've uploaded a picture to show the right ear cup has no buttons. However if you wish to move to the next track touch on the forward most part. And if you wish to raise the volume swipe up or down. One really cool feature that i liked alot is that if you have noise cancellation on and someone is talking to you, instead of taking your head phones off to hear what they are saying you can simply cover the right ear cup with your hand and the hard drive will turn off noise cancellation, lower the volume and amplify ambient sound so that you can hear what is being said. Once you remove your hand then your settings go back to the way they were. Trust me its a pretty cool feature that i have never seen before. The headphones are very comfortable and not once did i have any comfort issues. Battery life is very long. I have been running this headset for about 20 hours and am barely at 40%. Now while i can't tell you charge time, because i don't like depleting my battery, what i can tell you is at 50% life it took only 30 mins to charge it to full level. Sony is claiming that a 15 min. charge time i believe, will get you about 3- 5 hours of battery life depending on your settings. Let's dive in to noise cancelling and sound quality after all thats whats really important. I don't want to waste time on giving you specs because they can all be found on best buy's website along with Sony's website. This headset offers adaptive sound control. What is this? Simply put it is able to detect what you are doing and change your noise cancelling based on your environment. You have a few different settings it will try to detect which are staying, walking, running, and transport. If your at home listening to music it will switch to staying which allows more ambient voice sounds to enter so you can hear your wife or kids if they ask you something. If it detects that you are on a bus or plane it will switch over to transport mode which will eliminate all outside noise. This feature can be turned off at any moment and controlled manually to your desired setting. One thing i have to say is this is hands down the best noise cancelling i have ever heard and Sony has really entered this market packing a punch. When the noise cancellation is turned up all the way it does such a good job that i can barely hear my own voice and my ears start to ring because its so quiet. It actually worked too well for me to the point to where i don't use the full setting but rather keep noise cancellation at 50%. I am very impressed to say the least and if you are a frequent traveler this is almost a must have feature. Now noise quality is great but there were some connective issues via bluetooth connection. Now the issue i ran in to was my connection would drop out for seconds on end while listening to music. This would happen very randomly, there would be some days where i had zero issues and other days where it was so constant i had to reset my phone and headset. Im not exactly sure what the cause is but what i can tell you is it seems to be a common occurrence lately with some of their noise cancelling products that are wireless. I say this because i own 2 other Sony headsets that are both noise cancelling and are wireless and they both have the same connection issues. Now mind you im running it off a S9 plus with the latest bluetooth connection plus i have all my settings turned off to see if it would help however it did not. While this is very annoying it can be remedy by running the 3.5 cable directly to your phone. What sucks about using the cable though is that it won't allow you to access the app as the app will only run if it detects the headphones through bluetooth. This kind of was a let down as the app actually has a way better equalizer than my phone and was the prime choice for my music operation. Lets talk sound quality. All i can say is Sony does not disappoint in this area not even one bit. Through the app via the way of their built in pre-sets, there is an equalizer to fit everyones style of music. If you like string instruments or jazz there is a setting that focuses on your highs and mids while paying little attention to vocals. If you like rap and want to hear that bass hit there is a setting that focuses on vocals and big bass. And let me tell you that bass hits so hard that you can actually feel the speakers reverberating in the headset. Vocals are so clean that you won't need to look up lyrics for your favorite song. This is hands down one of the best sounding headsets to date bar none. That is just my opinion but trust me when i tell you that this is the area that made Sony, well.....Sony. So you can expect them not to disappoint. The quality was so crisp and clean that old tracks started to seem like new songs to me as i was hearing pieces of it that i never heard before. Here's the thing guys. This is a awesome headset that i think is priced pretty low. I find it very hard to think that this set will leave you disappointed. The only reason i did not give this 5 stars is due to the random connection issues while listening to music via bluetooth. However if you travel alot and you want something that is adapative so you don't need to mess with buttons or features then this is the headset for you. It folds up very easily to make it compact and battery life is amazing. The usb-c cable allows for very fast charge times with little down time. Due yourself a favor and grab this. Pros: -Awesome sound quality -Fast charge times -Long battery life -Great app features Cons: -Random connection issues

I work in a very sound intensive environment. Not industrial, but next to busy train tracks and next to the beach. Between trains and seagulls, there are days when my sanity is challenged. Not any more! The Sony WH - 1000 XM3 Noise Cancelling headphones are a major saviour for the sanity of my ears. My previous over-the-ear sound cancelling headphones did a fair job of blocking out train whistles and seagulls, but also generated a low hum. Not exactly ideal. At first I was a little disappointed in the quality feel of the materials. I figure for the price, I would have expected a nice combination of fabric (possibly leather) and durable metal. When I put on the XM3, the fit was very comfortable. The full ear padding is soft and the weight is light enough to not be a burden for long hours of use. My office has the hum of computers, HVAC, occasional squawking of seagulls, and around 20 trains per day. When I turned on the headphones, via a small button on the bottom of the right earpiece, the silence was amazing! The hum of the office and building was totally eliminated. It was like the sounds were instantly sucked out. The seagulls and trains were not eliminated, but they have become very distant and even forgotten while I worked with joyful silence. Sanity saved and the value of the XM3 headphones just became worth the cost! The next test was very impressive. I had no idea that my computer and iPad had the ability to produce such a high quality of music. A separation of instruments and sounds that I’ve not been able to experience before, with any other ear pods or headsets. When paired with my iPad, I discovered the Sony Headphone Application, which provides for fine tuning the headphones for the type of noise environment they are in. Some of the settings were over my head, but I’m sure that as I tinker more, I’ll be able to wipe out the distant trains. Aside from my very minor disappointment with the materials of the headphones, I also found that the use of the “touch” controls for pausing, next/back, phone answering, and volume control was a little difficult to get used to. The left side of the headset is smooth, but also acts as a touch pad for control. Knowing where to touch and which way to swipe takes some getting used to. In order to know where to place my finger, I have to cup my left hand over the earpiece to orient where the touch pad is located. I can get the geek factor of the touch pad, but in practicality of use, it would have been nice to have some type of tactile feedback or even a brail type of placement dot to know where the middle of the pad is. Another minor disappointment was in the “generated” surround sound capabilities. With the price of the headphones, I would have expected a better location separation of sounds and music. This can only be achieved by speaker placement, and not computer generated simulation, which is what it sounded like. Overall, due to the amazing noise cancelling capabilities of this headset and the quality of music playback, I’m very pleased with the XM3 and I feel they are well worth the cost. While I’ve not had any experience with Bose noise cancelling, from other reviews that I’ve seen, Sony has become a major contender in noise cancellation technology. I am also impressed with being able to enjoy having these headphones on for 4+ hours without any discomfort. If you need a way to save your ears from background noise this is THE Headset for you!
