They have great bass and vocal clarity and are very loud. The case is built nicely and comes with all the accessories you would need. Definitely worth the money on sale or full price.

The noise canceling is great. The isolation these provide is exceptional yet, still give you a sense of spaciousness. They are extremely comfortable, and you can wear these all day, no issues. People like to say that the plastic here is High Quality, but they are still plastic. $300 headphones. No matter how tough they may be, should not feel like they will break into a bunch of pieces when you drop them. Surely they are not, but I have $100 bluetooth speakers that feel higher quality than these. Just for reference, I own a Sony TV, and Sony A series camera, so I am accustomed to the quality of the their products. I even had an original Walkman, back in the day but, I digress. That being said, these do not sound great. Because the noise isolation is so good, I could never get that feeling of being underwater, out of my sound field. The highs are not as clean as I would like then. The mids are too full without enough clarity. The bass can never be realized even with equalizer tweaks, and sounds overly tight. These are not neutral, nor are the punchy so you are left in a world that you just get used to. I wanted to like these, as the reviews are Out of This World. Thousands of sparking reviews. Guess my hearing is just a bit off, and I do not have have $1200 to buy all the different like priced headphones, so I guess I am stuck with these. If you have the opportunity to listen to these in store, try to. If not, make sure you get these back before the return period. They will not start magically sounding better, just because of other people's reviews. If features are more important than sound, these are the headphones for you.

A solid headset with overbearing noise canceling

The sound quality it also fantastic and very customizable via their app. However the noise canceling feature is overbearing, making it feel like you're listening to your music and the hum of an airplane at the same time. I have tried this and the Bose noise canceling 700. I found the Sony pair to be a more comfortable and better sounding headset, but the Bose clearly outclassed it in noise canceling performance.

The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices. Check that the Adaptive Sound Control is turned off. Check the setting of the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app. When the Adaptive Sound Control is turned on, the noise canceling function may become insufficient.

Just looking at it from the outside you might say these are the Xm3's however the ear cups are 10% bigger, which is great for those with big ears (not me), and the new blue color is a welcomed addition to the line up. Along with the bigger ear cups, the sound stage for these is more well rounded or "flatter" than it's predecessor and for those who want more bass in everything they listen to, they might be disappointed however if you want to listen to audio the way it was intended then these are better than the XM3's. I have actually tested these since I still have my XM3's and can confirm that the bass is naturally more pronounced than in the XM4's however I found that the sound overall was better and had more "room" along with detail in the XM4's. Going back to the XM3's after listening to the XM4's sounded more muddy and crowded in my opinion as well. Another perk is that these can now connect to 2 devices at once in the Sony companion app and if you do like more bass in your music in general, you can tweak the EQ, but at that point you might as well buy the XM3's which is still a great buy compared to other headphones around the same price tag.

The best noise canceling

Balanced sound, the major sell point is its battery life, i can go over 24 hours with it without needing recharge. Noise cancellation works amazingly. The sound though, it is good but not the greatest (because the sound is balanced). To make the sound great you have to use an equalizer.

Perfect for Morning/University Commutes

They block out 90% of regular noises that I would normally hear on buses (light fixture buzzing), arguments, drunk party goers, and etc. They also make it more likely for me to have my own sense of space when I am anywhere. I get to be comfortable and well contained in the spaces that I'm in, like a I'm the only person in the world. The noise cancelling features, atmospheric pressure adapter, and different sound modes are added benefits that you never know you needed until you have it! I also have sound more headphones but these ones best them and I always have them on even in bed. They are also a beautiful black color and I am wearing them out but they aren't really showing signs of wear or waning sound quality. Best impulse purchase ever!

I have sensitive ears and some cartilage piercings that sometimes get pressed too hard and I end up with a headache. These headsets are pillowy soft.

Earbuds don’t stay in my ears and on ear headphones hurt after a while with a mask and glasses behind the ears so over the ear was a perfect solution! The sound is incredible and the noise canceling is amazing. I get caught up in my own world and don’t get distracted by things going on around me!

My wife has the XM3 and they’re nearly identical. I do like how these turn off when you take them off your head versus the XM3. I tried a pair of Bose Ultras and ended up returning them for these when they were on sale. The Bose probably sounded a little better but the noise cancelling was almost identical. For the price I couldn’t justify the more expensive Bose headphones. I really wanted to get the XM5’s but saw a decent amount of reviews saying the headband breaks easy. Didn’t want to drop that kind of money for something that would potentially break on me.

Hurt my head

Good sound quality, work well with teams, etc. I returned them because of the fit. I wear headphones all day for work and these caused pain on the top of my head due to the shape. I don’t get this with the Bose quiet comfort or hyperx gaming headset.
