Improvement over the xm3s

They feel a bit more comfortable and the simultaneous pairing to 2 devices is amazing. The call quality is still subpar but it seems that is an issue with song headphones and earbuds.

Great for music, terrible for phone calls

Phone calls on the other hand were very opposite. Had so many problems with people hearing me clearly. Got a lot of echoing complaints and there’s this high crackling that comes every time you speak. I tried everything and it turns out it’s some kind of feature that’s not fixed yet that’s stems back to the m3’s. This was a deal breaker for me as I would like to at least have the option to talk on the phone with them. Phone calls were not acceptable and until they fix this, will stay at 3 stars.

Horrible - Do Not Buy!

I've had them for a couple years now and I am currently looking for different pair. Number one, to adjust any settings, you have to download the Sony app on your phone because it isn't compatible with the PC. So, whenever the darn thing goes into "Speak to Chat" mode on its own just by taking it on and off, I have to disconnect from my bluetooth on my PC and connect to the app and manually turn off this feature, which is not beneficial when I am in the middle of important meetings and working - relying on getting audio. But nope, not with these headphones. Apparently, you can turn off the STC with two fingers on the right side of the headphones, but this is just a pipedream. Recently, it has just started to cut audio for a minute at a time with me just sitting at my desk, not moving, or speaking. These are really the most user unfriendly, annoying wireless headphones ever!

We appreciate you sharing your experience with our WH1000XM4. We apologize if you are having issues before with the Speak to Chat feature and having the app only accessible via smartphone. This is not the news nor the experience we want you to have.
Here are some key notes for Speak to Chat feature of our XM4:
- The Speak-to-Chat mode activates when it detects the speech of the person wearing the headset, but in rare cases it may activate in response to the voices of other people, ambient environmental sounds, transportation announcements, etc. Disable Speak-to-Chat in cases where the Speak-to-Chat mode frequently activates by accident.
- Due to ambient noise, the speech of the person wearing the headset may not be detected, and the Speak-to-Chat mode may not activate. In this case, try speaking longer and with a louder voice. In some cases, the Speak-to-Chat mode may not activate even when speaking longer and with a louder voice in extremely noisy environments such as in an airplane.
- Music playback is paused while the Speak-to-Chat mode is active only when connected via Bluetooth connection.
- The connected device or playback application you are using may not support pausing of music playback.
About the audio issue wherein it cuts off, you may try this setting the headphone to “Priority on stable connection” mode for better connection. Kindly check this link for the full details.
