Great sounding headphones! .... When it works

When it works I'm on my third pair of this model. Not a fan of the Gen 5's design. The first one developed a weird issue. The noise cancelling would randomly choose to blast your ear with noise, in effect assisting you in simulating what tinnitus feels like. I later found out that "Oily ears"? can cause a weird issue with the Noise cancelling headphone in the ear cups clogging. This is the first time i've heard of this, as my XM3's have never has an issue after years of use. The second time, the ANC just completely died on a random afternoon.... One second your listening to music on the plane, then all off sudden the ambient sound no longer gets removed & you hear the lovely roar of turbines. Hopefully this third pair works. Best Buy Warranty has really worked out for this pair. Random note: the New Bose QC 45 has odd channeling issue on their earcups. Either you don't notice & it's great or you do notice it & you can't unnotice afterwards. :(

I'm honestly shocked that these have any good reviews. I used to have an older, cheaper version of these that cracked and broke so I decided to buy this model and that was a huge mistake. Here's why I hate them: (1) They disconnect from whatever they're paired with for no reason over and over and over again. (2) When they are connected, the idiotic "speak to chat" feature is automatically enabled each time you turn the headphones on. You can turn it off, but it automatically turns itself back on at random, so anytime you make a sound while wearing the headphones (like sneezing, breathing, opening the fridge door, anything that produces an audible noise) the sound automatically pauses. (3) The Bluetooth voice that says "Power on," "Power off", "Bluetooth connected", etc is at MAX volume and there is no way to adjust it. It is WAY TOO LOUD. In conclusion, these headphones are horrible and I'm so mad that I wasted any money on them.

We want to help resolve these issues: For the disconnections, please ensure the headphones' firmware is updated and try resetting them to factory settings via the Sony | Headphones Connect app. You can permanently disable 'Speak-to-Chat' in the app; if it keeps reactivating, this is usually solved by a firmware update or a full reset. The volume of the voice guide is linked to the system volume of your connected device, so please try lowering that volume before powering on the headphones.
