For total convenience, WH-1000XM4 headphones can be paired with two Bluetooth devices at the same time. So when a call comes in, your headphones know which device is ringing and connect to the right one automatically. Hi McRAD, we are truly sorry to hear that you've experiencing this issue with the headphones disconnecting very often. This is not the experience we want you to have. Here are some steps that can help you to have a more stable connection and avoid the inconvenience.
1- Update Firmware: Ensure that your headphones have the latest firmware installed. You can check for updates and install them via the Sony Headphones Connect App.
2- Change the Bluetooth connection: Ensure that the Bluetooth connection quality mode is set to "Priority on stable connection" in the Sony Headphones Connect App
3- Check for possible environmental interference: Make sure that there are no other Bluetooth devices, WiFi router, or other sources of interference nearby that could disrupt the connection
4- Initialize the headset to restore factory settings. You can check the link below for instructions:

The XM4 provides great call sound quality when connected to a smartphone or mobile phone that supports the Bluetooth profile HFP (Hands-free Profile) or HSP (Headset Profile). However, your voice will be heard from the headset through the headset’s microphone (Sidetone function). To get the most out of your XM4, we recommend updating its firmware to the latest version (2.0.7). The software includes key features, applications, bug fixes, and feature improvements.
