Hi dbraun66, We regret to hear about your experience with our WH-1000XM4 wireless noise canceling headphones. This is usually not the case with our premium headphones. If the headphones are still with you, we highly recommend performing a software update to isolate the issue: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wh-1000xm4/downloads. The update improves the Bluetooth connection and the general performance of the headphones. If the issue is still the same, we can reset/initialize the headphones to further isolate the issue by following the guide from the links below:

We're glad that you like the noise canceling function of the headphones. It's unfortunate that you are not having the best experience with its volume. Make sure to install the latest software version of the headphones (via the Sony Headphones Connect app) for optimum performance. You can also use the equalizer function of the app to tailor-fit the sound quality to your needs.

It may also depend on your source content. Make sure to try multiple sources. Turn up the volume of the headset and the connected device. Connect the Bluetooth device to the headset once again.

The audio playback on this unit may be delayed from that on the transmitting device, due to the characteristics of Bluetooth wireless technology. As a result, the sound may not be in sync with the image when viewing movies or playing games.
