We're glad that you like the call quality and multipoint function of the headphones. Your feedback about its comfort is greatly appreciated. Make sure to adjust the headband for optimum fit and comfort. You may be experiencing a symptom called listener fatigue. That is where your eardrums work hard to manage the volume that flows through your ear canal. The louder the volume, the bigger the strain on your eardrums, which then causes the feeling of fatigue. Try lowering the volume or take a break from wearing them for a while.

Absolutely superb noise-canceling headphones

Lightweight, comfortable, stylish, they offer great noise canceling ability while retaining a strong ability with a variety of audio sources. The headphones fold compactly into the included carrying case. Included in the package are a USB C to A charging cable along with a 3.5mm audio cable and airplane adapter. Key to using the overall package as well is the free Sony Headphones app. Impressions: The noise canceling is really, really good. I tested these by playing music in a bathroom with 2 fans running, a dehumidifier at full blast, along with a large home HEPA filter set to maximum. Listening to music, I could not hear them at all, which was very impressive. Based on that, I would think this to do very well in an environment like an airplane. These are probably the best noise canceling headphones I've ever used. The overall sound is very good. The default EQ is good as is, perhaps a little biased towards the bass, but the included EQ settings in the app let you customize the sound how you like. I liked the presets a lot; sometimes EQ presets elsewhere seem to hardly change anything in the sound, but here each preset clearly changed the overall feel of the music. If you like customizing your sound, this is a useful feature, especially if you listen to wide variety of genres. I put these through their paces with a wide variety of music: "If You Want Blood" by AC/DC, "California Love" by Dr. Dre and Tupac, "Idol" by Elton John, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, and some Glenn Miller big band jazz. Using the app and EQ presets, I was able to dial these in appropriately for each with excellent results. For video, I watched various Youtube videos along with Star Wars Episode III and noticed no audio/video sync issues at all. Call quality isn't wonderful, but is more than acceptable in my limited usage of that aspect. However, battery life is. The app is excellent and is probably indispensable for getting the most out of these. The first screen is the status page, which gives you basic information like battery, connection, and what's playing. It also has the adaptive sound control, which detects your environment and adjusts the ambient sound control. This includes sitting, walking, running, or transit. You can, if you allow it, let it track you and adjust via location services. I didn't enable that feature since I have enough things tracking me as it is! But it's a nice feature if you're unconcerned with such things. The Sound tab lets you customize the Ambient Sound Control to control the noise canceling. Here you will also find a feature called Speak to Chat. It will detect your voice and pause the sound for you to quickly respond to something without having to disengage and take your headphones off. This is good for responding to a quick question. The default pause is 30 seconds but is customizable. The only problem I found with this feature was that I triggered it by clearing my throat. Bothered by some reflux, I was forced to turn it off for a bit during one listening session. Also in the sound tab are the noise canceling optimizer, the equalizer to adjust the sound, and the 360 Reality Audio setup. The latter, which is supported on some streaming services, gives a more immersive experience. The included demo seemed impressive enough, but since I don't subscribe to any supported services I didn't test this feature. Also included here are the settings for prioritizing sound or connection quality as well as the toggle for DSEE Extreme, which clarifies and upgrades highly compressed audio. I left this feature on. Some other nice features are the touch controls on the headphone size to adjust volume or skip tracks forward/back, along with automatic pause when removing the headphones (this can be disabled.) Using the Custom button on the headphones, you can also configure these to use either Alexa or Google Assistant. The bottom line: these are the total package when it comes to noise canceling wireless headphones. The noise canceling itself is just amazing and these are worth recommendation on that alone. However, they sound great, fit nicely and are comfortable. The app provides an array of extra features and customization options without being overwhelming (and to be fair, you can just pair these and start listening and they'll still be great). I highly recommend these.

I like the wireless feature so that's an improvement compared to my old Bose noise-cancelling headphones. I'm very disappointed, though, because I get lots of static in the right cup. I have to stop the lawnmower turn off the headphone and then turn it back on. I will be returning these to Best Buy for what I hope is a non-defective headphone.

VERSION 3 IS BETTER!

I had 3, and the battery lasted a lot longer than the 4! Somehow the 3 was more comfortable on my ears even after wearing them for hours. The 4 makes my ears hurt and it feels less adjustable than the 3. I know they're pretty much the same models, but I got more comfort and value from Version 3 than 4.

We appreciate your review of the headphones. While we're glad to hear you like the sound quality, it's unfortunate that you're not having the best experience with these headphones. As a suggestion, to reduce discomfort while wearing the headphones, try adjusting the headband and the earpads properly. These headphones actually support super-soft, pressure-relieving earpads in foamed urethane evenly distribute pressure and increase ear/pad contact for a stable fit.

To ensure an optimal listening experience, downloading the Sony Headphones Connect app lets you adjust your bass levels and gives you sound quality presets. There is even an EQ in there—which can be customized to fine-tune your music to your liking. You can edit the volume of the CLEAR BASS. Increasing the CLEAR BASS setting value allows your headphones to reproduce dynamic deep bass without distortion, even at a high volume.
NOTE: When the audio source does not contain much bass sound, the bass sound may not be audible.

white noise right side!

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the midnight blue wh-1000XM4/L because on sale and have a problem with right side when noise canceling is on you hear like white noise and is constant and sometime you hear like a burst. I had to exchange them because of this and my second headphones have the same problem I don't know if this is only with blue headphones or other colors too.. some might say is not a big deal because when you hear music is not a concern but to me is because I own the WH-1000XM2 and they are perfect.
