I used to use the Apple headphones but they were too heavy for me to work out in them these are the perfect ones to work out in. The sound of them is the best out of any I had so far. "Smart" headphones utterly stupid

The "smart" features on these headphones are annoying enough to make me want to throw these things out the window each and every time I use them. Let's talk about "Speak to Chat". This setting detects when you're speaking, and turns off the device. Say you're wearing these in a work meeting and they're connected to your laptop - a reasonable scenario, right? They have a built in microphone after all. But when you go to speak or give a presentation, the device just shuts off. You need to go into the app on your phone to turn off the "Speak to Chat" feature that just suddenly broke your audio, only you can't just disable it, you have to first disconnect the headphones from your laptop, then connect to the phone so that the app can adjust the setting. Then after it's turned off, you need to reconnect to your laptop to continue your meeting. Good luck troubleshooting this on the fly. But you turn it off once, and never have to worry about it again, right? Wrong, "Speak to Chat" resets and defaults to "active" with each software update. This means at any time wearing these headphones you could speak and if there's been a software update, your headphones will just shut off. Touching and holding fingers to the right earpiece for 3 seconds, will enable/disable "Speak to Chat" feature, which I had to go to reddit to learn. A handy tip for disabling it quickly, but also a trap for accidentally enabling it. Everyone wants a wire they can just cut to kill this permanently, it is so incredibly annoying. And that is just one of the many absolutely terrible "smart" features that are totally unavoidable with these headphones. You need the app to operate these. The "Pause when headphones are removed" and "Automatic Power Off" features never work, so almost every time I pick these headphones up to use them, they're dead and need recharging because they've just been sitting on doing nothing since I last took them off. Can you use them while they charge? Nope! Lesson learned: the next headphones I buy will never use the word "smart" in any description, and they almost certainly will not be Sony. They are decent sound quality, so when they work, they're good. (PS: AFAIA, these issues are in the XM5 as well /smile)

Constant connectivity failure is product killer

They were supposed to be Sony's best ever, and I had *never* - in 40+ years - had any issue with Sony audio. The brand has earned my loyalty and trust. But the WH-1000XM4 has been a letdown of epic proportions. The pros: They're very comfortable and - when working properly - the sound quality is 9/10, perhaps even a 9.5 depending on what you're listening to. They're lightweight, yet solid state. They also have great battery life - I've used them 20+ hours without a recharge. The cons: Unfortunately, the above-mentioned sound quality is often compromised and there's no explanation for it. When watching TV in the office - I'm 9-10 feet away from it - the sound will suddenly warble for stretches of time, from as few as 10-15 seconds up to 3+ minutes. There has been less of that the past few months, but also, I have been using them progressively less and less, which could account for the apparent reduction. What's still happening with EVERY single use, however, are the dropped bluetooth connections. Whether I'm walking, working in the garage, or just sitting at my desk, the connection will drop and have to be manually re-started. It's extremely frustrating and today, I reached my wits' end. I turned them off for the final time and listed them for sale. I'm going to try the XM5s, however, if the same issues appear, I will be returning them immediately.

not terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.they havw pretty good noise cancellation, i di prefer the airpods pro 2 over these, just beacuse if the transparency mode that stays on continuously. as well as the accessibility since it is an apple device. the sony xm4 app that is used is slightly difficult to use. but that are ok, if you have the money id get them over airpods max, but not over airpods pro for the price unless you want over ear.

Excellwnt build quality

Irregardless of the type of music shes listening to they provide an excellent listening environment. I have the high end Bose 700 and the B&W over the ears and the Sonys provide the same quality of sound for a lower price. In the end its the listener who decides whether or not they like them. My wife loves them.

Hype leads to disapointment

Noise cancellation is great sound is not great they dont play loud enough for my taste blue tooth calling is poor every one complaining I sound muffled. Im trading these in for something better

These R the Best Noice cancelling headphones EVER
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I Had no Issue with delivery, I love Best Buy, I purchase these headphones a little over a year ago, and they are great Noise Cancelling Head Phones, and are still great, They can pair with 2 devises at once with Bluetooth, The case they come in is Cool, I wear them everyday almost all day and they are comfortable and stable, nothing broke yet and I'm not that gentile with them, I recommended my headphone to a neighbor who needed to drown out her upstairs neighbors music and when I bought them they were only $250, now they are $350 which is a drastic increase in price, Just because you realized they were really good headphones from the feed back you were receiving doesn't justify charging and extra $100, that's just Greed Greed Greed, but they are worth the price, however, I suggest you not hike up your prices like that because if they were originally $350 I would not have purchased them to even give this glowing review. Now I know how awesome they are, and I would buy them again at this new Price, that's how great they are, I know the Price Point is High people, but you will not be sorry, you get what you pay for!!!

High tech, with some drawbacks to consider.

Yet, sometimes I prefer my cheap $15 set. If you have wet hair, or if it's raining? these things will pause/play/pause/play all the time. I'd prefer mechanical buttons because of this. I'm not sure why, but with my bluetooth tv adapter, I'll have to pair it every time I turn it on with this headset, while my cheap $15 pair just has better software, and will pair instantly every time no issues. The noise canceling is second to none. Look at them though, if you walk through the airport wearing these, people will wonder whether you're a celebrity, or a Martian.

It's unfortunate that you're having connectivity issues with the headphones. Unfortunately, this model is not water or sweat resistant. Please be careful when using the unit in the rain or snow, in humid locations or when using the unit while you are sweaty.
With regards to the Bluetooth pairing issues, please make sure that the firmware is up to date, and please try to initialize the headset. Turn off the headset while the USB Type-C cable is disconnected and then press and hold the (power) button and the CUSTOM button simultaneously for 7 seconds or more. The indicator (blue) flashes 4 times, and the headset is initialized. The communication between the devices will be poor if there is an obstruction between the unit and the connected device. Try the following:
-Change the position or location of the unit or connected device.
-If the connected device has a cover on it, take it off to improve the communication distance.
-If the connected device is in a bag or in a pocket, try moving the position of the device.
-Place the devices closer together to improve signal transmission
You may try setting the Sound quality mode to Priority on stable connection and see if it resolves the problem.
- Launch the Sony | Headphones Connect app.
- Set the Sound quality mode to Priority on a stable connection.
Signal interference may occur when a Wi-Fi device is in use near the unit if they both use the same 2.4 GHz frequency band. To resolve the issue, try the following:
-Turn off the Wi-Fi function of the connected device.
-If a Wi-Fi device is in use near the unit, turn off its Wi-Fi function or use the device at least ten meters away from the unit.
-Use the unit as far away as possible from a microwave oven, ticket gates, other Bluetooth devices, or places that generate electromagnetic radiation.
Note: Turn off the noise cancelling function if you are using a noise canceling headphone.
