Bluetooth rarely connects to the right device.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The sound quality is great, but if you pair these headphones to two devices, they will always choose the wrong device. You can be on a Zoom call on your computer and if someone calls on your phone—even if you don't answer it—these headphones will switch to your phone and not switch back until you've powered them off and on again. If you're playing music on your phone and open a browser window that autoplays sound, you'll have to restart the headphones, restart the music app, and then restart the headphones again. I've mostly solved the problem by never connecting these to my phone, or turning off Bluetooth in my phone when I'm using the computer. The microphone in these sounds a little bass and flat when used in Zoom calls, but it's fine.

Great sound quality, bad for video conferencing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.After reading different reviews comparing these headphones to the Bose Quiet Comfort, I opted to go with Sony. Pros: The sound quality is great which is no surprise with Sony. It comes with an app that lets you adjust the noise cancelling and a few other features. You can connect to two devices simultaneously which is nice. They are fairly comfortable with nice cushioning and fit snugly without being too tight. Bluetooth connects quickly and for the most part, seamlessly. The case is nice and sturdy and it comes with a USB C charging cord, a wired cord, and an adapter for airplane use. Cons: The switching back and forth between devices sometimes doesn't work. I really wish the app let you choose which device you wanted to connect to, but instead it just tries to do it by itself and won't always switch. The charging cord is comically short. I had to buy another and almost never use the one supplied. While comfortable, they do start to hurt my ears after a few hours of use. I haven't used them on a plane yet, but I imagine if I did I'd have to take breaks from using them which is a bit of a bummer because a big draw to high quality noise cancelling headphones is using them on long plane trips. My biggest gripe is using them in Bluetooth mode while video conferencing. They very often pick up interference and makes your audio sound tinny and jumbled to the point where people can't hear what you are saying. You have no idea this is going on because you can't hear the problem, but if you record yourself on Zoom or other platforms, the problem is very apparent. I've tried keeping my phone away which I hear can be an issue but it will still occur randomly. I've resigned to using the cord when on important calls because I don't want it to happen. It's really disappointing that Sony's top Bluetooth headphones hasn't worked this out. For my uses, I probably should have gone with Bose.

While we are glad you are satisfied with the outstanding sound quality, amazing noise canceling function, features, and stylish design of our XM4, we are sorry if you are encountering an issue with the Multipoint function, fit, and Bluetooth connection for video conferencing.
For multipoint function, depending on the device, silent streaming can continue on the first device when the second device has a Bluetooth connection to the headphones. If this is the case, the headphones remain connected to the first device, and the audio doesn't switch to the second device.
Follow these steps to hear sound from the second device:
1. Open the Sony | Headphones Connect app, select the System tab, and make sure the Connect to 2 devices simultaneously option is set to ON.
2. Stop playback on the first connected device.
3. Close the audio (music) application on the first connected device.
To ensure you get the most out of your XM4, please update its firmware to the latest version (2.0.7). The software includes key features, applications, bug fixes, and feature improvements. These headphones cancel noise like crazy, even without playing something. I use them for school and working out. They are better than the apple producs, and cheaper. I recommend these to anybody, they are my favorite!

4.25 years of wonder and worth

They held up being dropped, being sat on, children, sweat, a festival, a protest, vacations, road trips, hot cars, TSA, TOOL mini concerts, bass guitar lessons, head banging, silent discos, rail riding. Everything. I have extracted every cent of value from these headphones. Fourteen people have bought these because I love them so much. Only now, 4 years and 3 months into my ownership do they need to be replaced. Friends. Don’t hesitate on these.

They come with an app that lets you adjust and personalize the settings. The noise cancellation settings are pretty good! Right on par with Bose I'd say. My only qualm is that you cannot personalize the sound settings while connected on macbooks. The app only allows you to do it while the headphones are connected to your phone rather than other devices.

Not worth the $300+ price tag. Your literally just paying for noise cancellation. If you want headphones with better sound and better frequencies look somewhere else.
