This device beats the Bose 700 in noise cancelling by very marginal amounts, but in my opinion, the faster speed charging, foldable design , and audio prowess is second to none. only con is that it has Bluetooth latency when playing rhythm based games so I have to use the wire. Its not marketed as a gaming headset so thats understandable. I use this headset for everything!

Good sound but extremely finnicky

The ambient sound control and speak to chat features mean the headphones often stop playing and turn off noise cancelling on their own (even when these features are turned off!). What are otherwise great headphones are made annoying by being too smart for their own good. I hate to say if but if you're torn between these and Bose... go with Bose.

We do apologize for the inconvenience. If the headset is not worn properly, the Ambient Sound Mode may not work correctly. Wear the headset properly. We highly recommend using the Sony headphone connect app regarding your concern. Ambient Sound Mode settings changed with the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app are stored in the headset. You can enjoy music with the stored settings of the Ambient Sound Mode even when the headset is connected to other devices which do not have the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app installed.

Horrible. Period.

Perhaps they have not owned them for long yet. I've had these for over a year and I have never been more disappointed in such an expensive purchase. 6 months in, the headphones glitch out and there's a loud whistling noise that pierces your ear drums if you put them down and come back in 2 minutes. Powering on/off does not fix it, it just goes away after a few hours. So don't take them off without powering them off first or you will lose some of your hearing (this is the only method I found that works). If you want to use this for gaming with voice, good luck. It prioritizes the voice chat and makes the game or any other background sound (YouTube, music, whatever) absolute trash (I'm talking unbearable 90's foam headphones you get on an airplane in a plastic bag quality). I have cheap $10 amazon wireless earbuds that beat this for that purpose. Do not buy these, you will love them at first and fall in love with the noise cancelling and all the "cool features" and think they're amazing only to feel swindled after a couple of months. And good luck contacting Sony support, they will give you an FAQ link and tell you to suck it up. Also, if you don't believe me, look up the issues with these on Reddit or any forum and you will discover an ocean of tears. I'm only keeping/using them because of the price I paid and I cannot force my hand to throw them in the garbage bin where they belong.

Touch controls are horrible on headphones.

However, I really, really, desperately, despise the touch controls and wish it was possible to buy high-end wireless headphones with buttons, but everything with buttons, including the QC45s, is significantly worse than these headphones. I guess we just have to learn to live with touch controls.

OK for listening, poor microphone

First, as set of headphones for video conferencing that would help keep out the sound of various contractors and landscapers in the area. Second, as a headset for gaming and watching videos so that I would not disturb other members of the family at night. The sound from the headphones was good and the noise cancellation feature worked well. The controls were convenient and made sense. I could hear clearly even when the a landscaper used a leaf blower in the driveway next to my house. The microphone was a real disappointment. The sound was flat and tinny, with a lot of echo. None of the people that I work with thought that the microphone was at all usable. It was definitely not the computer or software, as switching to a different headset gave a much better sound quality. Also, I tried these headphones connected to my phone instead of my computer, and again the sound was flat and tinny. Overall, good as a set of noise-cancelling headphones, but not worth the price since you can pay much less for headphones that are noise-cancelling but don't have a microphone.

For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is updated (via the Sony Headphones Connect app). These steps may also help when using the mic function of the headphones:
-Re-establish the connection between the source device and the headset.
-Select HFP or HSP for the profile.
-You can also check the settings of the app that you are using for mic sensitivity if available.

Grips the head like a wimpy handshake…overpriced.

The plastic, especially the top, seems flimsy and lacks any gripping strength…like a wimpy handshake.I watched a movie in bed and they moved off my ears when my head was on the pillow. The sound and noise cancellation are very good, but not $350 good. I see these as more in the $125 so…just call it overpriced in my opinion.
