A worthy successor to the WH-1000XM3

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from the previous generation of these noise cancelling headphones (which I still use), these headphones are an excellent successor with good quality of life improvements even though it may not seem like it at first glance. I primarily purchased this due to the improvements to the camera and the addition of wear detection. Conferencing with these headphones is excellent and far clearer than the WH-1000XM3. Battery life is great! Lasts me through an entire day of constant use consisting of listening to music and conferencing.

This is often fixed by clearing the headphones' pairing history: please try performing a factory reset by holding the power and NC/Ambient button for about 7 seconds, and then attempt to re-pair with your computer.

Great compared to what's on the market now

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.My experience was primarily with the original MDR-1000X model before I decided to get another set and ended up waiting for these to launch before pulling the trigger. They're surprisingly different, with the newer (M4) model including app support for equalization and adjusting levels of ambient sound control. I'm not sure I like it compared to the simplicity of the original 1000X model. The noise cancelling is unquestionably better on the M4s model (with a noticeably lower noise floor and better overall cancellation across more frequencies), and both sound great via Bluetooth from LDAC sources but for some reason the line-in on the M4 sounds overly processed which hurts one of my main use cases. I use a Hiby R3 Pro music player and would use the wired output for my 1000X headphones but the wired in on the M4s sounds so processed that I'd rather use Bluetooth for them. Perhaps there's some EQ setting I can tweak in the app to fix that but so far I haven't found it.

Great Headphones! some bugs

One of the best noise canceling features around. bugs I'm still experiencing are multi device does not prioritize my phone over my laptop, also sound would sometimes randomly pause which is more software.

When using the multipoint function, make sure to turn off the music playback of the device that is not in use. You also have the option to turn off this function.

Amazing Performance

I tried them out at the behest of an employee and was instantly converted. The sound quality and noise cancellation are incredible. I cannot recommend these enough. The only minor gripe is you need to tinker with the setting about auto-cancel of noise cancelling.

The connectivity is great and easily interchangeable with all your devices witch was a huge plus for me to be able to switch between my PC and phone. It will automatically switch for you if hooked up properly. I was really curious about where noise cancelling headphone tech was and this was a great example. Almost all ambient noise is blocked out from these especially if the ambient noise is from a distance. The closer it is the more easily it will still be picked up which is great if someone is trying to talk near you, you will still hear them unless the volume is completely blasted. Having kids these help out great for when they are watching tv or playing and having fun and instead of being frustrated i can still enjoy my content. I do not have a lot of other headphones to compare these to but the sound quality far exceeds any headphones I had prior even earbuds. They have extremely punchy and strong sound. You can get them to your desired genre preference using the app it comes with, Amazing high quality headphones at a reasonable price.

Sony XM4 Headphones- Great Quality

The Sony XM4 headphones simply have the best noise-cancellation on the market. It's a great pair of headphones for students who easily get distracted by noisy environments. My only complaint is that Sony needs to improve on it's pairing of multiple devices with the headphones. When I am connected to my phone and laptop simultaneously, there is an occasional dinging noise. I still have no idea why, but if you disconnect from your phone, the dinging will stop.

This isn't normally the case with these headphones. Make sure to install the latest software version of the headphones (via the Sony Headphones Connect app). Resetting and initializing the headset may also help resolve the issue:

Not what I had hoped for.

In short, the maximum volume is far too low, the sony equalizer app helps but, unless you're an audiologist its "What does this button do?", and lastly the active or adaptive noise cancelation let a ton of environmental noise in. Even its more restrictive setting. I returned and bought another Bose 700.

We're glad that you like the comfort of the headphones. It's unfortunate that you were not completely satisfied because of the volume and Adaptive Sound Control. For optimum performance, it is recommended to install the latest software version of the headphones (via the Sony Headphones Connect app). The overall volume may vary depending on the source content. You do have the option to adjust the volume of the headphones and connected device. The Adaptive Sound Control is designed to automatically adjust the noise canceling function by behavior recognition. You can turn this function off if the noise canceling function becomes insufficient.
