I have four pair of active headphones. 2 Sony 1000 series and 2 Bose Quiet comforts. The Bose are still by far the better phones. These have many assorted problems and are by far... NO way the best for “Noise Cancelling”... they WORK (sometimes) that’s it. ( yes... VERY “versed” in apps and settings). I will keep as a “back up” but not a happy purchase for the $$$! ~Jerryc

I often try to do homework in coffee shops, libraries, or even at home where my younger siblings play loudly. All the background noise made it hard to focus. So I started searching online for noise-canceling headphones that would help block out sound and make it easier to study. I came across many reviews talking about the Sony WH-1000XM4, and after doing a lot of research, I decided to give them a try. I’ve now been using them for several months, and they’ve made a big difference in how I work and listen to music. The Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones are wireless, over-ear headphones. They connect through Bluetooth, which means no messy cords. Sony designed them for people who want high-quality sound, comfort, and strong noise-canceling ability. You can use them for listening to music, watching movies, making phone calls, or just sitting quietly without hearing the noise around you. They also come with a carrying case, a headphone cable, and a charging cord. The headphones fold up easily, so they’re great for travel or just carrying in a backpack. One of the biggest strengths of these headphones is their sound quality. The music sounds full, clear, and very detailed. Whether you're listening to pop, rock, classical, or hip-hop, the sound is rich and deep. The bass is strong, but not too much, and the higher sounds are crisp. You can really hear all the instruments and voices in the music. It feels like you're in the same room as the singer or band. These headphones also support high-resolution audio, which is great for people who care about the little details in their music. Another great feature is the noise cancellation. These headphones are some of the best when it comes to blocking out outside noise. Whether you're on a bus, in a noisy classroom, or near a TV, the headphones can make it feel quiet and peaceful. These headphones can last up to 30 hours on a full charge. That means I don’t have to plug them in every night. If I forget to charge them, I can do a quick 10-minute charge, and that gives me about 5 hours of use. That’s super helpful on busy school days or when traveling. I don’t worry about them running out of battery in the middle of a study session or long trip. However, no product is perfect. One of the biggest weaknesses is the high price. These headphones cost around $350, which is a lot of money. Many people, especially students, may not be able to afford them. They are definitely a big investment, and not everyone will want to spend that much on headphones, even if the quality is good. Another downside is the microphone quality. While they sound amazing for music, they don’t always work great for phone calls. When I talk on the phone with them, some people say my voice sounds a bit muffled or quiet. And if I’m outside and it’s windy, it becomes even harder for them to hear me. This can be annoying during important phone calls or online classes. Overall, I would give the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones an A-. They offer excellent sound, top-level noise canceling, and a long battery life. Sony headphones WH1000XM4 - Mic does not work

The mic does not connect with my cell phone (Samsung) or DELL laptop or Samsung 5series 55" TV. When I contacted Sony support, they said that the Bluetooth protocol used by Sony is not compatible with any of these deices Bluetooth. There are no drivers available. I am struck now. Later on when I read there were many customers who mentioned that these expensive Sony headphones mic does not work with many standard cell phones, TVs and laptops. I have 2 Bose headphones which easily connect with these 3 of my devices; there is no Bluetooth protocol issues.

Great sound but i prefer the earbuds for now.

The XM3 seems to have better noise cancelation but the sound quality was definitely comparable. My ears are ridiculously sensitive to pressure and this just wasnt a good fit for my giant ears.

Decided to go with Sony after having Parrot Zik's for years. Parrot Zik's were awesome, but seen the sale price for this Sony product. Bought them and took them on my Florida vacation and they wouldn't charge. Of course, when I got back home, I returned this item. Will stick to buying Sony TVs.

Terrible Build Quality

It's very loud since they are meant to isolate noise so the creak sounds like an old door closing right next to your ear. Just go to the store and handle them to see just how bad the sound is from plastic rubbing, of course they have been handled by many customers in the store, but it'll give you an idea of what to expect over time. Sony says it was my fault and will not cover under warranty, they claim I damaged them or dropped them. Just do a Google search to see all the people reporting this issue.

If you are using the headphones for phone calls on your smartphone or mobile phone, please make sure to select HFP or HSP, if you have both settings set it to HFP. This will provide a better experience while receiving phone calls using the WH-1000XM4s.
Additionally, the noise-canceling function is effective in low-frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.

Exceptional Noise Cancelling, Good Sound and Bass
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The active noise cancelling (ANC) on these headphones are incredible. They pretty much eliminate all low frequency noises, such as air conditioning hum, or car noises. I haven’t taken them onto an airplane yet, but since the roar of jet engines are another type of low frequency sound, these headphones are designed to eliminate most of those sounds too. It’s amazing, every time I put them on, the room suddenly goes quiet. And I am not exaggerating. They really work that well. They also do a good job reducing higher frequency sounds, such as talking or screaming. They don’t eliminate high frequency sound as much as they do for low frequency sounds, but they do reduce loud talking a lot. The talking appears so far away that you soon forget that others are having a conversation in the same room as you. I can’t say enough about how well the ANC works on these headphones. Regarding sound quality, they do a really good job reproducing and separating the sound field. The audio comes out very clean and crisp. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying these headphones are on par with audiophile quality headphones, but they do produce very good sound for a set that includes ANC. What I appreciate about them is the amount of bass they produce too. I prefer headphones that are a little heavy on bass and these fit the bill. And if you are not a fan of heavy bass, there are plenty of preset equalizer options withing the Sony Headphones app that will allow you to pick a sound that you prefer. Or you can use any EQ app to adjust the sound to your preference. In terms of how loud these headphones can get (how loud they can play music in your ear), they are definitely above average for wireless Bluetooth headphones. I’ve had other wireless headphones that weren’t powerful enough to produce a volume loudness for my liking. With these other headphones, I would crank them up all the way, and I would be disappointed that I can’t get the audio louder. These headphones, on the other hand, do get the music pretty loud, more so than others. And when I have a desire to make them even louder, I use the included audio cable and hardwire them directly to my phone. I have even connected them to a headphone amp to make them even louder. The audio still sounds crisp and not distorted. I really appreciate that these headphones include the option to go wired, as well as wireless. I will note that the headphones have to be used wirelessly in order for some of the touch features to work. When connected wirelessly, I can use the swipe up/swipe down volume feature, as well and the track skip feature. However, when connected using the headphone cable, the volume and song skip settings can only be adjusted from the phone. I didn’t realize this at first when I was connected using the cable. I was trying to get the touch feature on the outside of the right earcup to respond to my volume adjustment attempts, and nothing was happening. However, when I realized what was going on, I tried the touch feature again in wireless mode and it worked well. The same goes for Sony’s special audio codec (LDAC) that improves the sound of low-quality digital music files; it only can be used when connected wirelessly though Bluetooth. This is by design because Bluetooth has the ability to support these features, whereas they’re not supported with the wired connection. Overall, I am really impressed with these headphones. However, my opinion isn’t what matters here. What really matters is what my wife thinks when she puts them on. You guessed it; these have become her new best friend. She reaches for them when the kids and I are really loud trying to accomplish a battle royale each night when where playing video games. I don’t blame her.

Traded them in for the Blue Parrot IX-450.
