Good for music. Questionable for Work Use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wondering if this is just the pair I got...but lots of issues around audio quality on calls, maintaining a connection to computers, and the auto-off/start/stop capabilities of the headphones. THE GOOD: Nice form factor. Fit and finish seems great. Noise cancelling for music is good. Decent battery life so far. THE BAD: Conference call participants and phone conversation participants struggle to hear me talk...this happens across connected devices and call technologies. Headphones frequently disconnect from my laptop, but remain connected to my phone. Adding a second bluetooth device requires an update & setting in the Sony mobile app. Connection announcements on the headphones interrupt conference calls and music listening. So I'd think of these as a great set of headphones if you're connecting to only one device and just listening to audio and watching video. But I would hesitate to rely on these for anything work related.

Make sure to install the latest software version of the headphones (via the Sony Headphones Connect app) for optimum performance.

With their amazing deep base quality, you can hear a different quality in music compared to other devices that you would normally play it on. They are great for travel usage as the noise-canceling feature helps remove any miscellaneous sounds in the background that you may not want to hear on your travels. I have been using it when I travel by train and it helps remove the metal chains hitting off each other or when the train breaks are initiated. Still a top choice

I upgraded from M2 (4-yrs-old still going strong) to M4 and have no complaints, except that the carrying case no longer has a snap loop you could attach to your carryon (it now has a fabric loop that doesn't fit around much). Battery life is slightly less but still excellent, lasted through 2 hours in airport and 12-hour flight with no issues. Very comfortable, except needed to move top band every few hours as the pressure in one spot would get annoying. Recommend downloading the accompanying apps to fine-tune the ANC and your audio quality/equalizer. Equalizer has a few presets but you can also just customize based on personal preferences.

Great music quality

I purchased another brand for my daughter at the same time and they have compared them… these definitely have better sound (while the others have slightly better noise cancellation). Music quality is of more importance to my son, and that’s why he likes them so much. He was never able to find earbuds that fit comfortably, and has really preferred the fit of these headphones instead.

I had to buy two pairs because of a water related accident the first time and both times the headphones worked great (obviously before they went into a bag with an unsecured water bottle) The damaged pair I actually still use and keep with my computer, as the headphone jack still works even if the wireless part doesn't. The noise canceling is great, and the sound quality is even better. I prefer these over the more recent model.

Best Noise Cancelling Headphones in the WORLD

If you are ever looking for a synonym of the word 'Perfect', feel free to use Sony WH-1000XM4. The Sony Headphones App is amazing and versatile. You can customize your music in plenty of ways which makes you the master of your own music. Lastly, I never realized how crap the headphones in the Aeroplane are until I used my Sony XM4. Wow, the flight attachment is extremely useful if you are travelling across continents and want to cancel all the noise in flight and get a calm and cozy experience.

Great sound, okay comfort

The sound quality is better than that of any headphones I’ve ever used, most noticeably in the mid-range. I really like the swipe commands and the auto-pause. My only complaints are with the band of the headphones. After about an hour or so my head starts to hurt from the pressure of the band. This doesn’t seem to be an issue for many other people so maybe I have to adjust the length of the sides, but it isn’t comfortable at all past the 2-hour mark. Still though, I think the sound quality mostly makes up for that, so I’d rate this 4 stars overall.
