My older Bose QC35 that I bought in 2017 are still working... might have just been bad luck but I doubt I'll ever try another pair. I did enjoy them before they quit working and the hand gestures on the side as well as the bass made it stand out.

In the meantime, updating the software of the WH-1000XM4 will help improve the overall performance of the headphones (Version 2.5.0) which you can download and update using the Sony Headphones Connect app.

headphones noise cancelling

Not what I was hoping for in the noise canceling department. When it is on it is really effective but then I get a blast of noise when it turns off, which is very annoying.

That's frustrating to deal with, and we apologize for the interruption!
The fluctuating noise canceling is almost certainly caused by the Adaptive Sound Control feature. When the headphones detect the consistent motion and loud sound of mowing, the feature is trying to automatically adjust the ANC or switch to Ambient Sound, which creates that annoying cycling effect.
To fix this:
Open the Sony | Headphones Connect App.
On the Sound tab, turn "Adaptive Sound Control" OFF.
This should lock the noise canceling on and give you the consistent performance you need.

I bought these to replace those. drawn in by the promise of better battery live with the BT5.0. Very disappointed in the differences between them. The MX2 was more stylish with the leather on the outside of the cups, and the exposed portion of metal on the headband. It also had way better battery life. I consistently got the 30+ advertised life on the old ones, but I'm lucky to get 24 on the new ones. Still great headphones, sound wonderful, very comfortable.

To pricy to be low quality

If you use these to workout in buy febreeze in less than 1 week this headset started to smell like some sweaty boxing gloves. Even with head set adjusted to smallest size depending on head position these headsets will fall off my ears.
