Hi DrStrong, You've made an excellent choice! We appreciate your feedback about the noise canceling feature and touch control sensitivity of the unit.
-The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.

We recommend turning off the touch sensor when you're listening at night to not accidentally activate some of the controls.
Please download the Sony | Headphones Connect app, Go to [System] then Tap the [Touch sensor control panel] switch on the Dashboard to switch the setting between [On] and [Off].

That is where your eardrums work hard to manage the volume that flows through your ear canal. The louder the volume, the bigger the strain on your eardrums, which then causes the feeling of fatigue. Try lowering the volume or take a break from wearing them for a while. To get the most out of your WH-1000XM4, download the Sony | Headphones Connect App. It includes Adaptive Sound Control—which automatically adjusts noise canceling based on your activity, and an equalizer—which can be customized to fine-tune your music. -Carl

Depending on the connected device, the volume may not as loud with the headphones. If this is the case, you may not get the desired volume by adjusting the headphones' volume. Try using a combination of the headphone volume and the volume of the connected device.

Note: If you use the Sony | Headphones Connect app users, adjust the volume on both the app and the connected device.

Also, make sure the earbuds of the headphones fit your ears properly. If they do not, the volume may seem low.

Thank you for the review. When you are wearing the headset, depending on how you wear the headset, the effect of noise canceling may vary or a beeping sound (feedback) may be heard. In this case, take off the headset and put it on again. The noise canceling function works primarily on noise in the low frequency band such as vehicles and air conditioning. Although noise is reduced, it is not completely canceled. Also, do not cover the microphones on the left and right units of the headset with your hand, etc. The effect of noise canceling or the Ambient Sound Mode may not work properly, or a beeping sound (feedback) may occur. In this case, remove your hand, etc. from the left and right microphones.
