Personally got a senheiser hd 560s, a mini amp dac, and a less expensive Bluetooth headphone with pretty close to the same sound as the Sony all for the same price.

We're so glad that you are enjoying the overall performance of your WH-1000XM4 and it does have an effective noise canceling for commutes/air travel . The noise canceling function primarily works for noise in the low-frequency band (train, airplane, engine noise). Although noise is reduced, it is not canceled altogether. Overpriced and underwhelming

I have Soundcore Q60’s that do much better sound deadening overall, and are a fraction of the price. Sound quality also was not great compared to open back headphones. I would recommend a pair of cheaper headphones for sound deadening and investing in a good pair of open back headphones for when sound deadening is not needed

To make maximum use of the Noise Canceling function, set the Adaptive Sound Control to off (via Sony Headphones Connect app), and manually adjust the Noise Canceling or Ambient Sound Control. The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices. To ensure optimal performance with noise canceling, please refer to the steps and guidelines from the link below.

Handy yet complicated

A bit too complicated with having the app involved but it’s not impossible to learn and when it sounds the way you want it sounds great!

Thanks for sharing your review and experience with the WH1000XM4. We're glad that you like the dedicated app of the headphones. Your feedback about the touch controls is greatly appreciated. You may find these steps helpful when using the touch sensor:
-The sensor of the touch sensor control panel is built into the flat surface of the right unit. Operate within the range of the sensor.
-When you swipe your finger forward/backward or up/down on the touch sensor control panel, the touch sensor control panel may not work correctly depending on the angle at which the headset is worn or the direction your head is facing. When you swipe your finger forward/backward, make the movements perpendicular to the headband. When you swipe your finger up/down, make the movements parallel to the headband.
