+ really good noise canceling - Poor sound. Sounds like my sony MDRXB50AP for 30$. - After 5 hours of listening I felt an ear pain. This is doesn't cost 350. Just returned it.

Hi Aronaks, we're glad that you like the noise canceling function of the headphones. It's unfortunate that the sound quality and comfort made you return the headphones. We appreciate your feedback about its comfortability. With Sony's Headphones Connect app, you can adjust the sound settings to tailor-fit your needs. This might have helped you achieve the sound quality that you are looking for. Thanks for your review and we hope you consider Sony in your future purchase. ~Ralph Sony_US

I don’t know if it was just the unit I had but I did not like they sound quality much. Too bassy, even with EQ adjustments. The app experience is also clunky on iOS. For comparison, Bose’s iOS app is pleasant to use.

Listening to music through these headphones are excellent but when it comes to listening to the tv using Bluetooth is the worst of any headphones I have used. The xm4 headphones cut out and turn off on their own at least three times every time I try to watch a movie or a tv show with them connected via Bluetooth. My wife has the qc35II and they are excellent with music and the tv connection. I will be returning these useless Sony headphones foe the Bose qc 35’s.

      Hi Setto,

We're glad that you like these headphones when listening to music. It's unfortunate that you are already looking to return the headphones because of connectivity issues when paired with your TV. Please refer to the troubleshooting steps on this link to help resolve the issue:

      https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wh-1000xm4/articles/00097458

Here are the steps to reset and initialize the headphones:

      Resetting the headset

-Press both the (power) button and the CUSTOM button simultaneously while charging. The headset will be reset. The device registration (pairing) information is not deleted. If the headset does not operate correctly even after resetting, initialize the headset to restore factory settings.

Initializing the headset to restore factory settings:

-Turn off the headset while the USB Type-C cable is disconnected and then press and hold the (power) button and the CUSTOM button simultaneously for 7 seconds or more. The indicator (blue) flashes 4 times, and the headset is initialized. This operation resets volume settings, etc. to the factory settings, and deletes all pairing information. In this case, delete the pairing information for the headset from the device and then pair them again.

If still not resolved or you need further assistance, please email the below information to socialsupport@am.sony.com. Solid Sonic Travel Buddy

TL/DR these headphones should be on your short list if you want a solid sonic travel buddy due to the user friendly features, sound quality (bass heavy), and excellent noise cancellation. To begin, you receive a nice carrying case, with a short USB C cable, auxiliary cable, and an airplane adapter. The MX4s are light weight and comfortable, especially at the headband. I can tell within 10 minutes if the headband is going to be a long term issue or not and I had no pain/discomfort/issues with the MX4’s headband while wearing for 4+ hours in one session. The sound quality is as good as it is going to get from a wireless set of headphones, and if you like bass heavy music (who doesn’t at this point) you will thoroughly enjoy the ear tingling lows. You will not get the same level of separation you find in open backed headphones, but that’s not the point in a set of noise cancelling headphones. In fact, I expect solid noise cancelling and I WANT bass. A useful feature the MX4s have is the ability to pair two devices to it at once. At first, I didn’t quite understand why this was a big deal until I paired my computer and phone with the MX4s a the same time. I was watching YouTube videos through the MX4s when I received a call that went straight to the MX4s, talked for 5 minutes (the call was crystal clear with no issues hearing or being heard), once the call ended I went back to watching my YouTube videos. Another feature is speak to chat where I have mixed feelings about. This feature pauses your music and allows you to hear your surroundings when the MX4’s detect you are talking. Now, if I am in a quiet focused mindset then it is perfect because I am probably not going to be singing along to the music. However, most of the time I am both focused AND singing so this feature ends up being a real pain, so I turned it off. A similar feature is when you take off the headphones your music pauses, this one I like a lot. You can calibrate the level of noise cancelling or allow the companion Sony app to do it for you. For example, I went out for a run, the MX4s detected I was running and determined it should allow the maximum amount of ambient noise so that I am aware of my surroundings as I run. In order to pause, increase/decrease volume, or skip songs you use gestures on the touch sensitive right ear cup. The sound controls are intuitive and much easier to control than traditional buttons. Instead of searching for a volume up button, all I had to do while running was swipe up on the right ear cup to increase the volume. In addition, I wanted to play a song again so I swiped left while running to go back to the previous song. The fact I was able to manage my music without breaking my stride was an enormous plus. In the past I have struggled with pinpointing where the volume and skip buttons are on ear cups while I am running which would interrupt my rhythm. Once I was done with my run, I went into my car and browsed on my phone for a bit. Suddenly I heard a *ding* and the amount of noise cancellation dramatically increased. The sony app determined I was no longer moving, therefore it was safe to increase the level of noise cancellation. I got out of my car and to get something from the trunk and the MX4s emitted another *ding* which changed the noise cancellation level to allow more ambient noise in. I enjoy this feature a lot and you can always manually override the settings via the sony companion app. These pair of headphones are a traveler’s dream. You have noise cancellation for noisy environments, 10 minutes of charge time yields 5 hours of battery life (maximum battery life is 30hrs), and if you have no way to charge them you can still use an auxiliary/3.5mm cable to listen to your music wired. The one draw back I see is that they are not as easy to carry as ear buds, but if you are looking for headphones, it's probably because you didn't want earbuds in the first place.

      Hi Grandma,

We regret your experience with our product, and we apologize if the sound or Bluetooth connection cuts from the headphones. Please allow us to help you and turn this into a better experience. Make sure to update the software version of the headphones (via the Sony Headphones Connect app) for optimum performance. The communication between the devices will be poor if there is an obstruction between the unit and the connected device. Please check the following solutions below.

For Bluetooth connection or sound skipping issue: To ensure you get the best Bluetooth connection, please set the headphones Bluetooth Connection Mode to “Priority on stable connection”.

      https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wh1000xm4/v1/en/contents/TP0002752802.html

-Change the position or location of the unit or connected device.

-If the connected device has a cover on it, take it off to improve the communication distance.

-If the connected device is in a bag or in a pocket, try moving the position of the device.

-Place the devices closer together to improve signal transmission

      For low sound level

      • When playing music, adjust the volume on the connected device. If you are unable to adjust the volume on the connected device, install the “Sony | Headphones Connect” smartphone app and adjust the volume in the app.

      • Test the sound on a different source (e.g. Music Streaming, YouTube Video).

      • Connect the Bluetooth device to the headset once again.

If the issue still occurs, resetting and initializing the unit may help resolve the issue: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wh1000xm4/v1/en/contents/TP0002752743.html

They told me the order arrived and when I checked there was no package on my porch, I asked my neighbors checked everywhere and it was no where to be found. I then contacted customer support and was told I’d receive a refund. Then 2 weeks later I checked when the refund would be coming and they told me they were no longer sending it. At this time I had left the country for work and now have no means to figure out what happened to my package. Horrible service and I’m mostly angry that I was lied to about the refund which delayed my action until it was too late

Ordered this product online for holiday gift. Upon opening realized I had received the wrong product, and also had someone else's Shipt sticker attached. Store refused to assist with return due to online order. I have been begging for a refund for months now. Have had to return the fraudulent item twice, multiple calls and chats with customer service and still no refund or resolution. Will NEVER purchase from Best Buy again - online or in store. Absolutely ridiculous circle of frustration. And I'm probably looking at eating the cost of this item because of it.

Can't go wrong with these headphones

Purchased this item as an alternative to ear buds that just never seem to fit in my ears, and as a wireless solution. These are quite comfortable over a 2 hour period, and are fairly light weight. When used in a rock concert environment the noise cancellation is simply marvelous, enabling one to hear the music and singing without having one's ears blasted out. There does seem to be a slight pressure on the ear drums in this environment, however. Phone conversations in loud environments are also intelligible for the wearer as well as the remote party. Battery life is excellent, and can be queried at any time by pressing the power button. Bluetooth connections are quick and easy with the app. Overall sound quality is excellent. Only negative is this product is not rated as water resistant as I like to wear them on walks outdoors where precipitation can occur without much warning. Still, there have been no problems experienced so far!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I first discovered the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones when I was looking for a way to concentrate better while studying. I often try to do homework in coffee shops, libraries, or even at home where my younger siblings play loudly. All the background noise made it hard to focus. So I started searching online for noise-canceling headphones that would help block out sound and make it easier to study. I came across many reviews talking about the Sony WH-1000XM4, and after doing a lot of research, I decided to give them a try. I’ve now been using them for several months, and they’ve made a big difference in how I work and listen to music. The Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones are wireless, over-ear headphones. They connect through Bluetooth, which means no messy cords. Sony designed them for people who want high-quality sound, comfort, and strong noise-canceling ability. You can use them for listening to music, watching movies, making phone calls, or just sitting quietly without hearing the noise around you. They also come with a carrying case, a headphone cable, and a charging cord. The headphones fold up easily, so they’re great for travel or just carrying in a backpack. One of the biggest strengths of these headphones is their sound quality. The music sounds full, clear, and very detailed. Whether you're listening to pop, rock, classical, or hip-hop, the sound is rich and deep. The bass is strong, but not too much, and the higher sounds are crisp. You can really hear all the instruments and voices in the music. It feels like you're in the same room as the singer or band. These headphones also support high-resolution audio, which is great for people who care about the little details in their music. Another great feature is the noise cancellation. These headphones are some of the best when it comes to blocking out outside noise. Whether you're on a bus, in a noisy classroom, or near a TV, the headphones can make it feel quiet and peaceful. This feature is especially helpful when I need to study or just want to relax. It blocks out things like people talking, cars passing by, and even the hum of fans and machines. You can even adjust how much sound you want to let in, so if someone is talking to you, you don’t have to take the headphones off. The third strength is the battery life. These headphones can last up to 30 hours on a full charge. That means I don’t have to plug them in every night. If I forget to charge them, I can do a quick 10-minute charge, and that gives me about 5 hours of use. That’s super helpful on busy school days or when traveling. I don’t worry about them running out of battery in the middle of a study session or long trip. However, no product is perfect. One of the biggest weaknesses is the high price. These headphones cost around $350, which is a lot of money. Many people, especially students, may not be able to afford them. They are definitely a big investment, and not everyone will want to spend that much on headphones, even if the quality is good. Another downside is the microphone quality. While they sound amazing for music, they don’t always work great for phone calls. When I talk on the phone with them, some people say my voice sounds a bit muffled or quiet. And if I’m outside and it’s windy, it becomes even harder for them to hear me. This can be annoying during important phone calls or online classes. Overall, I would give the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones an A-. They offer excellent sound, top-level noise canceling, and a long battery life. They’re comfortable to wear for hours and are great for travel or focusing on schoolwork. Even though the price is high and the microphone could be better, I think they are worth the money if you’re looking for high-quality headphones. I definitely recommend them to people who love music or need help concentrating in noisy places.

The sound quality is fine but other things lack behind can’t use it for more than 30 mins ears gets baked with these plastic cups. I already have XB900N’s and thought to give a try as XM4 are new but when compared I felt XM4 are junk and XBN900N far better in quality and price point. Hi MrPoopyButthole, thank you for your review. While we are glad you find our WH1000XM4 better than AirPods Pro and Bose Qc Earbuds, we are sorry if the noise canceling function of these headphones did not live up to your expectations. If you haven't yet, please follow the instructions below and see if it resolves the problem:

      • Make sure that the noise cancelling function is turned on.
      • Adjust the headset into a comfortable position.
      • The noise canceling function is effective in low-frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies.
      • Check that the Adaptive Sound Control is turned off.
      - Check the setting of the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app. When the Adaptive Sound Control is turned on, the noise canceling function may become insufficient.

Amazing Headphones, but after just a little under a year of use the bluetooth stopped working. the only thing that works now is the six feature of the headphones

I would recommend this to a friend
