    Stopped working after 5 months!

    I purchased a pair Bose QuietComfort headphones back ~2015. I never had an issue with them. I decided to upgrade headphones now that bluetooth is an option, and noise-cancelling has improved over the years. I purchased the xm4 headphones, and after 5 months I heard a loud high pitch sound coming from one of the headphones and now it stopped charging, all in the same day. Seems like a common problem from other reviews. I will never buy Sony headphones ever again, and will just go back to Bose. Don't buy these headphones if you want reliable, durable, long lasting headphones.

    It broke

    It hasent even been a year and it broke on me. I cant even return it cause i dont have a warranty thinking its a durable product. Smh! What a waste of money!!

    BEST BUY OR SONY FIND A SOLUTION FOR ME

    The first moment I tried these headphones, one side didn't work. After several minutes, I dunno why it started to work, so I didn't take it this problem seriously. Two or three weeks later, it happened again, but this time it didn't get fixed and it is still broken until now. If I didn't ask for a refund, it's due to this happened when I had already returned to my country since I bought them during my last month of my holidays in the US. I'm not kidding, these headphones didn't even last a month. I wasted almost 300 dollars for nothing. Now, why am I writing this now? Sometimes this whole situation comes to my mind and it is really frustraring not to doBy the way, these hearing aids arrived on March 14, my flight to Peru was on March 27 and they stopped working before April 3. I also have evidence showing the date these hearing aids stopped working, just in case. So, why am I writing this after months? Sometimes this whole situation comes back to my mind and it's really frustrating not being able to do anything from outside the United States. Anyway, I wanted to vent and also demand that someone from Best Buy or Sony fix this. I'm going to travel to the US again in January next year, so you still have time to think. There are no excuses.

    WORST NOISE Cancelation

    Sound quality sucks and also even though one of the features states noise cancelation, they are not noise canceling at all. DO NOT buy them if noise cancelation is a major factor in making your purchase

      To improve the noise cancelling feature on the WH-1000XM4 headphones, consider the following steps:

      -Make sure the earpad covers your ears completely, or that the earbuds fit snug in your ears.

      -Check that the Adaptive Sound Control is turned off.
      Check the setting of the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Sound Connect” app. When the Adaptive Sound Control is turned on, the noise canceling function may become insufficient.

      -With the “Sony | Sound Connect” app, check the setting of [Ambient Sound Control]. If it is set to [Wind Noise Reduction] or [Ambient Sound], the effect of noise canceling is reduced. Set it to the noise canceling mode.

      Following these steps should help optimize the noise cancelling capabilities of your WH-1000XM4 headphones.

    Avoid At All Costs: Too "Smart" for Their Own Good

    Bought these to use in work meetings and phone calls and am sorely disappointed. Unreliable connection to multiple devices, mystical magical "features" like gesture support that inadvertently disconnect your calls, and a mobile app that causes the headphones to disregard your preferences...but somehow demands that you *disconnect* your headset in order to update the headset software. I expect much better from Sony.

    Nice sound, but had connection issues

    They sounded good and the app was user friendly and with several options, but the pair I bought had Bluetooth connection problems and I had to return them.

      We're glad that you like the sound quality and app functions of the headphones. It's unfortunate that you had to return it because of connectivity issues. Having the latest software version will provide optimum performance to the headphones. These steps might have also improved your experience:

      -Set the headset to “Priority on stable connection” mode (using the Sony Headphones Connect app).

      -Bluetooth communications may be disabled, or noise or audio dropout may occur under the following conditions:
      a. When there is a human body between the headset and the Bluetooth device.
      In this case, put the Bluetooth device in the same direction as the antenna of the headset to improve the Bluetooth communications.
      b. There is an obstacle, such as metal or a wall, between the headset and the Bluetooth device.
      c. In places with wireless LAN, where a microwave oven is used, electromagnetic waves are generated, etc.

      -Because Bluetooth devices and wireless LAN (IEEE802.11b/g/n) use the same frequency band (2.4 GHz), microwave interference may occur and result in noise, audio dropouts, or communications being disabled if this headset is used near a wireless LAN device. In such a case, perform the following steps:
      a. When connecting the headset to a Bluetooth device, use the headset at least 10 m (30 feet) away from the wireless LAN device.
      b. If this headset is used within 10 m (30 feet) of a wireless LAN device, turn off the wireless LAN device.
      c. Use this headset and the Bluetooth device as near to each other as possible.

      -If you are enjoying music with your smartphone, the situation may be improved by shutting down unnecessary apps or restarting your smartphone.

      -Connect the headset and the Bluetooth device once again.

    Incredibly long lasting quality!

    I bought these headohones from BestBuy in May of 2019. I use them daily for 3+ hours for meetings and streaming music, and they sound as good as the day I bought them even now in March of 2025. I used them for even longer amounts of time when I had to work from home during the pandemic. I'm honestly shocked at how good these still sound, the bass still bumps hard, the noise canceling is stellar, and theyre still in extremely good shape. The leather (or presumably leather) padding along the headband and earmuffs has onky just now started ti wrinkle, and it may not have even started to had I taken the time to care for them properly. A single charge still gives me a weeks worth of charge (spread out). I'm gonna buy the same pair again once these fullt die out. Though, I'm not sure they ever will!! I love these so much!

One of the possible solutions to the issue is by updating the firmware of the headphones (via the Sony Headphones Connect app) for optimum performance. The software update improves the general performance of the unit and includes key features, applications, and bug fixes. If your WH-1000XM4 Headphones turn off unexpectedly after few minutes of use:

      1. Make sure the batteries are fully charged.
      2. Connect the headphones to an audio device, computer, or mobile device with Bluetooth or the supplied audio cable.
      3. If the headphones turn off, listen for the Voice Guidance message:
      • When the remaining battery charge is low: “Low battery, please recharge headset”
      • When automatically turning off due to low battery: “Please recharge headset. Power off”
      4. Initialize the headset, and pair the headset and the device again.

    Sony headphones WH1000XM4 - Mic does not work

    I bought the Sony WH1000XM4 headphone for my office phone. The mic does not connect with my cell phone (Samsung) or DELL laptop or Samsung 5series 55" TV. When I contacted Sony support, they said that the Bluetooth protocol used by Sony is not compatible with any of these deices Bluetooth. There are no drivers available. I am struck now. Later on when I read there were many customers who mentioned that these expensive Sony headphones mic does not work with many standard cell phones, TVs and laptops. I have 2 Bose headphones which easily connect with these 3 of my devices; there is no Bluetooth protocol issues.
