Crackling in the ear cup

The noise counseling is great and the sound quality is amazing. But now for some reason there is an rattle in the left ear cup that is driving me insane whenever there is any bass or any noise it just makes a really annoying crackling noise. I tried to troubleshoot it to make sure there is nothing in the ear cup there was absolutely nothing it’s definitely a problem with the speaker. Can I get these fixed or a refund.

Battery and reset problem - still tryingto fix

I replaced the battery (easy) but the new battery went bad in a few days. I tried the hard reset, and it worked again for a couple days. Not sure if the battery is really OK and I just have to keep doing a hard reset, or if the battery is really going bad. This was a gift so I don't have proof of purchase.

Don’t buy this model.

Reality of that is every time you touch them something whacky happens to volume, or tract you are listening too. Take them off or adjust them and they turn off. You quickly end up disabling all adjustments from the headset and using primary device controls. Buy something that is not touch controlled. Also has annoying auto noise canceling off feature which randomly comes off and one.

Headphone stopped charging after 6 months

Extremely disappointing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these primarily to connect to my Samsung 4K TV to watch movies and TV. Unfortunately the Bluetooth connection on these headphones did not work properly. Seated approx. 8 ft. away from my TV, the sound would cut in and out, and sometimes become delayed from the picture. I have used several other Bluetooth headphones with this TV, in this exact same room, so I know the problem was definitely with the headphones and not with either the TV or my setup. Additionally, these headphones do not have a way to manually switch between different Bluetooth connections, like Bose headphones do. You have to use the mobile app on your phone to make any changes to the headphones' settings, and the best they offer for switching between multiple devices connections is to either be connected to both devices at the same time (which is not the same or ideal), or to just manually turn off whichever device you're not using (which is not always possible). And lastly, these headphones have soooo many features and things turned on by default—many of which the average user will not care about—that they are not ideal for non-tech-savvy buyers, or those who care only about great sound quality. These headphones came highly reviewed, but because of the Bluetooth not working correctly I had to return them, and will not be buying Sony headphones again.

We regret to hear that it didn't live up to your expectations and had to be returned. Updating the software version of the headphones (via the Sony Headphones Connect app) is recommended for optimum performance.
Setting the headset to “Priority on stable connection” mode (via the Sony app) can help improve connectivity.
The audio playback on this unit may be delayed from that on the transmitting device, due to the characteristics of Bluetooth wireless technology. As a result, the sound may not be in sync with the image when viewing movies or playing games.
We do appreciate your feedback about the multipoint function and the headphones being tech-savvy equipment. Rest assured that this will help us improve our products. Thanks for sharing your review and we hope you consider Sony in your future purchase.

Headphones not charging

Bought these less than a year ago and for some reason they will not charge. Last week I got the notice that battery is low. Plugged them in and the charging light stays on for about 3-4 seconds, then goes off. Now the headphones are completely dead. Very disappointed with this Sony product. I always thought I was buying quality when purchasing Sony items.

We regret to hear that the headphones are not working properly. This isn't normally the case with the WH1000XM4 headphones. To help resolve the issue, check the following:
1. The supplied USB cable is used for the connection.
2. The cable connection is secure.
3. Make sure that the USB AC adaptor is firmly connected to the AC outlet.
4. When charging the headset through a USB port on a computer, try the following as well:
- Make sure that the computer is turned on.
- If the computer is equipped with multiple USB ports, use another port.
- Connect the headset directly to the computer without using a USB hub.
- If the computer is in Standby (Sleep) or Hibernate mode, place it back to normal mode.
- If the computer is running on Windows 8.1, use Windows Update to update the operating system.
Resetting and initializing the headset may also help resolve the issue:
Resetting the headset
-Press both the power button and the CUSTOM button simultaneously while charging. The headset will be reset. The device registration (pairing) information is not deleted.
If the headset does not operate correctly even after resetting, initialize the headset to restore factory settings.
Initializing the headset
-Turn off the headset while the USB Type-C cable is disconnected and then press and hold the (power) button and the CUSTOM button simultaneously for 7 seconds or more.
The indicator (blue) flashes 4 times, and the headset is initialized. This operation resets volume settings, etc. to the factory settings, and deletes all pairing information. In this case, delete the pairing information for the headset from the device and then pair them again.
The unit comes with a 1-year manufacturer's warranty. If still not resolved, please email the below information to socialsupport@am.sony.com. So sad and Disappointed

Be better sony!

Ive downloaded the app 3 times now because he keeps reverting to interrupt music when someone is speaking. So frustrating! I dont want your app! I dont want to agree to terms of service that I dont fully understand. Be better sony!

Power off. Defective out of the box

Device says its fully charged. And after I just charged it from mains. I use multiple BT devices with my phone. This is the first BT device that is defective out of the box. Only good thing is they failed right away so I can return. And now I see Bestbuy has a miserable return policy of only 15 days. I will never buy anything electronic from them again. Costco/Amazon stand by their products with much better warranties. I guess I'll count myself lucky that they failed quickly. I can't imagine having to deal with Sony service. Japanese companies are the absolute worse to get repairs done. I'm going to stick with Sennheiser. They have much better quality control. I know, used to work for them.

Problems connecting to PC

The big problem is that these headphones will not stay connected to a PC. A quick google search shows that this has been an ongoing problem for years. I will be returning these.

No Windows Support... :(

They have no support on Windows 10. Which unfortunately is why I'm going to have to go with a different brand. It sucks but Sony needs a Windows 10 app. I use headphones on my PC and need ANC to block stuff out.

If you are having issues connecting the headphones to your Windows computer, make sure to install the latest software version (via the Sony Headphones Connect app) to resolve the issue.
The headphones may have been connected to the computer through Low Energy (LE) communication mode. This usually occurs when the headphones are paired without pressing the Power button for seven seconds and may result in the headphones not pairing to the computer or the computer not having sound.
To resolve the issue, make sure to press the Power button on the headphones for seven seconds to put the headphones in pairing mode before you pair the headphones with the computer.
After the headphones are in pairing mode, both WH-1000XM4 and LE_WH-1000XM4 appear on the computer screen. LE_WH-1000XM4 may appear first, and then a few seconds later WH-1000XM4 will appear. Wait for the WH-1000XM4 to appear on the computer screen and select it.
Note: It may take up to one minute before WH-1000XM4 appears.

I had a different model of Sony headphones , and it broke by the hinge. Reached out to both US and Japan headquarters about the issue. Received a reply email stating that the Sony engineers agree that there is a defect with the product, but they cannot exchange it because it was out of warranty. If a product has a defect, and company admits it, then why does not matter what the purchase date it. Anyway I highly recommend to stay away from sony headphones in general.

Do NOT buy these headphones!

BOTH headphones broke from extremely easy use. A small plastic piece breaks along the headphones swivel joint. It is obviously a design flaw. What makes things worse is that Sony refuses to admit that this is a design flaw even though many many people are reporting the same problem. Google it. Shame on you Sony.

Low quality at premium price.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really had high hopes for this. For the cost, I'd expect something to last more than 2 years. Shortly after 2-year warranty expired this has started blasting this whistling noise into one of my ears. I've never had a pair of headphones do this. I've owned Audio Technica, Sennheiser, various Sony headphones. The pain was so bad it caused dizziness and was constant throughout the day.

Terrible Quality and Experience 2x Returned

I've had to return twice bc the bluetooth consistently does not work and shuts off for no reason what so ever. The product is the most inferior option I've ever bought for noise cancelling headphones. Beats and Bose have never disappointed so I will be going back. I went for run yesterday and these decided to not work yet again. They are now floating somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean bc I had it with them. Do not buy anything Sony related for Headphones you will regret. Horrible considering the price and will never buy anything with Sony name.
