    I don't get all the positive reviews; I'm not a fan. Pros: * Good active noise cancelation * Good EQ settings in the app (mitigates con #1 a little) Cons: * Sound like you're listening to music via a speaker under a pile of pillows * Mic similarly sounds like garbage for calls * No mute switch

      For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is up-to-date (via the Sony Headphones Connect app).

      These steps may also help when using the mic function of the headphones:
      -Re-establish the connection between the source device and the headset.
      -When using a video calling application on a computer, switch the Bluetooth connection to HFP or HSP with the computer. During a video call, sound quality may become low due to the conditions of the communication line.
      -You can also check the settings of the app that you are using for mic sensitivity if available.

      The mute function is not available on the headphones. As an alternative, you can check your source device or the app that you are using for a mute function.

    Already looking for a replacement

    Well constructed and comfortable, but the usability sucks. Oh, did you stretch and tap any part of the headphones? Call ended. Did you take them off one of your ears to put on a mask? Disconnected from phone. Muted, or some other bs that you didn't want to happen. My old Bose has tactile buttons and I didn't realize how much I wanted that. Also, adaptive noise cancelation is sooo bad. It shouldn't ever adjust what the "noise cancelation" level is, but it does. You can turn it off with the app so you don't get endless headaches, but still. I will be replacing these with something else soon and will certainly not recommend them to anyone else ever, unless I dislike them. Was going to give 2 stars, because when they do work, they work well, but the fact that I feel like I have to replace them and I've only had them for 3 months dropped it to one star.

    Great Sound, Trash Quality

    I've had these for a few months and the sound and noise canceling features are Outstanding. Today I removed the headphones and one of the ear cups broke and dangled by the internal wire. Sad to toss $300+ in the trash.

    Good noise canceling; bad for calls

    These headphones are great at noise cancellation but no one can hear me when I talk to them on these. They say I sound "far away." Not sure if this is a defect with my particular product or a more common issue? I am thinking about returning. For the price, I do want to be able to talk on the phone.

    Issues with microphone

    The headphone has high sound quality and noise-canceling, but its microphone is the most disappointing I have ever encountered (low quality like very cheap headphones). The Bose 700 is definitely the better choice between the Sony wh-1000XM4 and the Sony wh-1000XM4.

    Don’t waste your time or money

    Do not buy these. Wired.com suggested them because they were on clearance. Wired admitted, and I agree, that there are no functions that make sense or can be controlled. When you accidentally touch the ear pad it skips, reverses or replays a song. When you intentionally touch them and want it to do something, it doesn’t. Battery life is poor after a few uses. You don’t know if you’ve turned the headphones on or off. Sound and noise canceling is decent, both rated high by myself and Wired. But you literally have no control or understanding over the function of the headphones. Don’t waste your $, buy a product with good sound and easy controls. And without clearance they are overpriced.

    Low battery life/cheaper material

    After many years of having the wh-1000xm2, i decided on buying the later verision of the sony product. Unfortunately, the battery life is terrible. wh-1000xm2 lasted longer and was made of better material.

May we know how long does your new headphone battery last? Make sure to fully charge the headphones before using them. You can also turn off the DSEE HX Auto or Equalizer setting on the Sony | Headphones Connect app. This can help conserve the battery life of the headphones.
