I tried the Bose 700 and these Sony xm4 headphones. All the other reviews I think are unhelpful because they compare them setting against setting without naming the differences. The Sony 360 sound is incredible - better than Bose - but only accessible if you pay for one of the monthly services like Tidal. Otherwise, the sound quality is pretty similar. However, the pre-set equalizers (with the option to customize 2) in the Sony I liked more than Bose that has a traditional bass, mid, treble setting. If you are using this for phone calls, Bose supposedly has better call quality but I could not tell the difference. What I can say is that Sony is better at muffling background noise with the noise cancelling off. And it is easier to get to noise cancelling off - both with the button and with a quick cupping of the right ear on the Sony. Bose picks up a lot of background noise when you are on a call and you are not talking - like a can opening, running water, and opening a bag of chips 50 feet away. Even turning off the noise cancellation (which I've now learned helps both Sony and Bose pick up less ambient sound through the mics), the Bose picks all this up while the Sony muffles these sounds. TV sounds can be picked up by both. Also, both Sony and Bose allow multiple connections. However, I found that the Bose switches better between my Windows 10 PC and my Google Pixel phone. I could not get the Sony to switch as seamlessly and automatically between these two as I shifted from music to phone calls. The Bose was instantaneous. The Sony is more compact because the ear pieces fold in. It feels more flimsy than the Bose but I think this is just a sensation because the ear pieces fold and rotate. The carrying case is slimmer for the Sony. Personally, I think the Bose feels more comfortable and is softer on my ears. But I imagine for other people the Sony would be better. This is likely just personal preference. Ultimately, I returned the Sony xm4 headphones because the touch panel has a beeping sound for every touch that you cannot turn off. There are a lot of other notifications sounds that you can turn off (especially if you disable an adaptive setting feature that is aware of where and what you are doing) but not the beeps that are associated with swipe up/down/left/right. If you don't change things often or if you are going to use your phone to make adjustments, then the beep may not annoy you. For me, the beeping was a deal-breaker - even though as you can see in my review, I actually liked the Sony better in terms of sound and phone calls.

Time had come to upgrade from my trusted wired Bose noise cancelling headset to a wireless version. After some research it became clear that for the most part a decision between Bose and Sony was just about a toss-up with each having features that would apply to specific users. I went with the Sony due to some sharp pricing, longer charge life and a "killer ap" the headphones turn off when removed. In use, I am not disappointed with my decision, they are comfortable for extended use, even without noise cancellation do a great job of keeping noise out and provide an excellent listening experience. Have not yet had the opportunity to test battery life but don't see myself ever testing the upper limits of battery life.

very comfy, pretty decent sound quality, excellent noise cancellation and battery life...not sure if it is sturdy enough though, time will tell

The sound quality is amazing— it helps me lock in when working out or studying and I love how portable it is as well! My fav thing is that it’s batter life lasts so long I don’t have to charge it all the time

I bought the XM3 in late July, and I was very satisfied with the sound quality, deep bass, and long battery life. But, the microphone was just ok, at least according to my friends. A week later, the XM4's were announced and I decided to return my XM3 within the return period, and purchased the XM4's instead. Same high quality sound and long battery life, but music/videos stop playing when the headphones are removed (a nice touch) and there's a significant improvement in the microphone voice quality. Yes, I had to pay a premium over the XM3, but it was definitely worth it since I'll be making a lot more video calls in the foreseeable future.

Love these headphones, which I got when they were on sale... they are comfortable, good sound and can connect to phone and computer seemlessly. They did sometimes disconnect during a zoom session on my iPad though.

The best headphones I ever bought , worth the price and I will buy it and recommend it to anyone who plays video games, goes to school or likes their peace and quiet time. Noise cancellation works amazing and great sound quality.

These are my first pair of noise-cancelling headphones. I didn't think that was really a thing until I was drying a load of laundry AND cooking with the fan on and didn't hear either. These are exactly what I need and wanted and more. I've never known that headphones could pair to multiple things at once and you could switch between devices seamlessly. The battery lasts a good amount of time and charging is simple. I will never travel without these.

Best headphones then any other company, i have now had this for almost a year and they so far are still the best in the world. I have been using them for the gym and it works just fine, all you need to do is take them off for at least 5 minutes so that it wouldnt mess up the sensors inside or too much sweating. I have used them for 2 flights and i love the noise cancelations. It allows me to listen to my music peacfully and the sound is on point, the bass is super accurate and i can hear every sound and beat. Also great for gaming, makes me feel like if im in the fields which is cool, just need to buy an aux mic to be able to chat. Overall best headphones that are unbeatable.

The best of the best. Its sound is incredible. Its build quality is definitely perfect. It is 100% comfortable. Its 30-hour battery is powerful. I have no complaints. I love them and miss them when I'm not wearing them. Amazing SONY.

Great sound quality. Solid bass and good battery life. But sometimes the headphones would kick me out of silent mode for ambience sound for the little sounds even when I set the settings not to.

Battery life is nuts, noise canceling works well and the sound is very good as well. Ive had my headsets these are some of my favorite. Light and comfortable as well.

Bought these headphones after having bought speakers and other headphones from them. What makes these stand out is not only the superb sound quality but the companion app that comes with it. The app allows for equalizer customization to the max. Noise cancellation is quite nice, especially being the passenger in a car or on a train, bus, ect. The other Bose headphones for around 399 have better noise cancellation but only by a small margin that I barely noticed. Just as Sony always touts it self, the bass on these bad boys can reach a perfect level without having fuzz. It takes a bit of playing around with the equalizer to find the best fit for you though. I’m a college student at the moment and it work great with zoom calls and phone calls. The call feature is great. It also has a track pad on the right ear cup that you can swipe on at different angles to lower, higher volume, skip songs, ect. The reason this is a 4 star and not a 5 start is that after about 8-10 hours of straight use (don’t judge me) the pressure from the crown of my head was painful, which is to be expected. Also, there was only one instance where the audio would stop and play for some unknown reason but was fixed with a simple off and on. I’d recommend these headphones over Bose, JBL, and other brands. My favorites BY FAR!

Noise cancelling is amazing wish they were a little louder when listening to music. I use them alot when I watch tv and the sound quality is top of the line. They are also very comfortable on your ears.

Sound quality sounds amazing for the price I paid for, a lot of personalization to suit your preferences, and it can last a while on even with max volume

It took me a little while to get used to controls on these and to take advantage of the many features but I love these headphones! They are comfortable, great sounding and the noise cancellation is amazing (almost scary that you can not hear anything else when it's on!) I only wear headphones when I absolutely have to, I will always prefer being tuned into my surroundings but when I need to tune out or keep the room volume down, these are the way to go. The two bluetooth device pairing is great too because I use these on my LG TV and also with my iPhone without having to pair them again. The pause feature when I remove the headphones is awesome and the motion control on the right side took a bit of getting used to but now it comes more naturally to me.

Sound quality and battery life are phenomenal. They are surprisingly comfortable for extended use, included case and accessories are superb.

The best over the ear wireless headphones. everything you could hope for. Long battery life, good volume and sound clarity, Very comfortable. They are soild all the way around, you won't be disappointed, better than my Bose NC700.
