Amazing headphones, especially for students!

I use these whenever I go to class, or am just chilling and working on homework. This past week I had a huge paper due and spent a lot of time in the library, jamming out to these headphones. Overall, the quality on these is probably one of the best in the consumer headphone market. The added functions of being paired to two devices at once, as well as the noise cancellation is a huge plus! Highly recommend these for the student who needs something to cut through a noisy room and provide a great sound experience.

Great and Not so Much

The sound quality is great, deep base with very clear vocals, and the ability to customize the equalizer to your liking is fantastic. What's not fantastic is the Tactile sensors, the microphone, and pressure build up from the noise cancelling. The sensors do not respond very well, often skipping what I was listening to and causing me to have to take my phone out and go back; defeats the purpose of the feature. The internal sensor works great but with the wonky touch sensors it ends up playing the sound or skipping the song/episode. The Microphone is horrible. It picks up all of the background noise and not your voice. The voice through feature seamed cool at the beginning but it became very annoying. Anything triggers it, a random sounds, other voices, loud noises, coughing, etc. It makes the experience unenjoyable. Lastly, the pressure. My god, it can be so intense sometimes. You feel it pushing into your head. The pressure can cause some headaches and sometimes a little disorientation, nausea, dizziness/motion sickness. Makes relaxing a bit difficult. I hope this helps you when deciding

While we're happy that you like the great sound and you're utilizing the built-in equalizer on the Sony Headphones Connect app, we're sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with the touch sensor control panel does not respond correctly. Make sure to update the software version of the headphones (via the Sony Headphones Connect app) for optimum performance.
When you wear the headset over a cap, cloth, a scarf, hair, etc., wearing detection may not work properly, and the touch sensor control panel may not be available for operation. Wear the headset so that your ears are inside the earpads. We also recommend to clear the touch sensor so that you can tap the touch sensor directly. The WH-1000XM4 features Precise Voice Pickup technology, which will reduce background noise and delivers clearer voice quality to the other person on the phone. Depending on the surrounding environment, wind noise may increase when the Ambient Sound Mode is turned on. In that case, cancel the voice focus with the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app. If the wind noise is still significant, turn off the Ambient Sound Mode. For call quality, re-establish the connection between the headphones and your source device. Select HFP or HSP for the profile. You can also check the settings of the app that you are using for mic sensitivity if available.
Your feedback about the atmospheric pressure when active noise canceling is turn on is greatly appreciated. We are sorry, but the WH-1000XM4 doesn't offer a manual atmospheric pressure adjustment. Great compared to what's on the market now

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.My experience was primarily with the original MDR-1000X model before I decided to get another set and ended up waiting for these to launch before pulling the trigger. They're surprisingly different, with the newer (M4) model including app support for equalization and adjusting levels of ambient sound control. I'm not sure I like it compared to the simplicity of the original 1000X model. The noise cancelling is unquestionably better on the M4s model (with a noticeably lower noise floor and better overall cancellation across more frequencies), and both sound great via Bluetooth from LDAC sources but for some reason the line-in on the M4 sounds overly processed which hurts one of my main use cases. I use a Hiby R3 Pro music player and would use the wired output for my 1000X headphones but the wired in on the M4s sounds so processed that I'd rather use Bluetooth for them. Perhaps there's some EQ setting I can tweak in the app to fix that but so far I haven't found it.

Small issue i have is with the sensor that pauses the music when it detects you talking or someone talking to you. it pauses randomly, I'd rather a button and for it to not autodetect. the color is oh so beautiful

The WH1000XM4 has a built-in proximity sensor in the left unit and the built-in acceleration sensors in each of the left and right units detect when the headset is attached to or removed from your ears, and the headset automatically controls the touch sensor control panel’s operation, powering off, pausing music playback, play music, etc. By using the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app, you can change the settings of the wearing detection automatic music playback pause and resume function of the headphones.
