To my ears, the Sony headphones sound the best...with tweak of EQ settings. Noise cancelling is very good. At a price of $250...can't beat them.

To improve the volume range, you can download in your phone the Sony | Sound Connect app and check for firmware updates: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wh-1000xm4/software/00261613
Also, you can adjust the Equalizer settings to boost certain frequencies or overall gain.
In the app, set Sound Quality Mode to Priority on Sound Quality, which can improve dynamic range.

Only thing I have reservations is easy of set up and the battery seems to drain quick and takes a long time to charge, other than that they're great.

Great value for the price, but an honest opinion

These headphones do a great job at balancing noise cancellation and audio quality. The only drawback is the microphone is spotty sometimes when calling someone.

I went with Sony bc they are a good brand imo. Have no experience with other noise canceling headphones so can't compare. They are great though, best to get on sale imo. They don't come with a power adapter and the charging cable is only 3 inches!!!!! I charge them about once every 2 weeks. The sensors and touch controls are nice and didn't take long to get use to.

I purchased another name brand pair and returned them because of the performance. I also like the NC Optimizer for different situations. The one issue is user dependent - which is that the ear cups might bother your ears after a while. If they do, maybe the new version is a better choice. If they don’t, lucky you. The price to quality here now is excellent.
