    Great quality headphones

I purchased these headphones to replace my Bose QC15's which have finally worn out. I considered these and the Bose QC35 II's, the QC45's and the 700's. On sale for Black Friday, these were just a bit cheaper than the comparable headphones, the 45's and the 700's. For me they were also just a bit more comfortable, and the noise cancelling gave me more options. I hate the look of the 700's, and the Sony worked just a bit better than the 45's. I have a doctorate in music performance, so I am judging the noise cancelling on how well it does, and these really block almost everything, and how they sound. The fidelity to the sound is very high. Plugged into my phone or computer, the volume setting needs to be almost at the lowest and is still super clear. Can't yet imagine these at the airport! I love the color (midnight blue)! It's just a bit lighter, and different from, the typical black, and it's also not white or silver. Nothing wrong with the colors Sony has chosen, but I wanted something that didn't scream out for notice, but was still not black. These headphones work great with just the cable, not even using the noise cancelling, and the charge lasts a long time, and I'm not even using a battery that I have to remember to replace. I should have upgraded a long time ago, but I may not have considered Sony's headphones back then. I don't know if these are the best noise cancelling headphones on the market, but all my searches compared these with different Bose models. I am very pleased with this purchase, and I can't recommend them heartily enough!

The sound is pretty good, not super accurate but could be good for most people. They get really loud and the bass can be pretty accurate and good in a few songs. They are comfortable to wear for long periods of time and the battery is really great, I didn't bother to charge them for a few weeks (with medium usage and regular hours per day). They are a little overpriced but overall a good pair of headphones for the buck.

    Worth the hype

These headphones have been hyped up as the king of headphones for several years now. And it's all true; they are simply phenomenal. But a price point of $350 was a little more that I was willing/able to spring for a pair of headphones for a long time. But I got them on sale for $278, and can I just say, worth it. There are very few things to dislike about them. The bass is substantial, and if you don't fancy as much rattle than you can just tweak the EQ from the app, which is also awesome and very easy to use. I haven't even mentioned the ANC yet, which is probably the headline feature. It reduces road noise to a distant memory. I have yet to try them on a plane, so I can't quite speak on that yet but I'm sure they're great there too. The case is great. If you want portable headphones these are the ones for you. They are very light and comfortable, and for as good as the ANC is, the cabin pressure is almost non-existent. These are worth saving up for, is suggest waiting till they go on sale because that's a much better price. The only thing that could be improved is the water resistance. They can't handle any water whatsoever, and with the location of the mics and whatnot I am slightly concerned about wearing them in rain. But if you're looking for amazing ANC, great, hefty bass, and comfortable, portable headphones, these are the ones for you.

Hi Ryan, Thank you for the fantastic review! We're very pleased you like the easy to use app, industry-leading noise cancellation, light and comfortable fit, portable carrying case, and powerful bass of your Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones. We also appreciate your feedback about the headphones not having a water resistant feature. If water or foreign matter enters the headset, stop use immediately and consult your nearest Sony dealer. In particular, be careful in the following cases.
When using the headset near a sink or liquid container
Be careful that the headset does not fall into a sink or container filled with water.
When using the headset in the rain or snow, or in locations with high humidity
When using the headset while you are perspiring
If you touch the headset with wet hands, or put the headset in the pocket of a damp article of clothing, the headset may get wet.

    Great Sound, Minor Flaws

I've been using the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones for a while now, and they offer an exceptional listening experience with top-tier noise-canceling capabilities and impressive sound quality. They are incredibly comfortable, even for long periods, making them perfect for travel or extended use. The battery life is fantastic, lasting up to 30 hours on a single charge, and I find the touch controls intuitive and responsive. However, I've noticed a couple of drawbacks. Despite the excellent overall sound quality, I find that the bass isn't as deep or powerful as I would like. Additionally, the headphones can occasionally fall off easily, especially if I'm moving around a lot. Despite these minor issues, I'm still very satisfied with the Sony WH-1000XM4 and would recommend them to anyone seeking high-quality wireless headphones.

Hi OmarM, thanks for commenting! We're happy to know that you're satisfied with the amazing sound quality, exceptional noise canceling feature, excellent touch control function, and long-lasting battery life of your WH1000XM4. We greatly appreciate your feedback with the fit and bass sound. These headphones have a self-adjusting headband and soft cushioned earcups that cover the whole ear. You may try adjusting the headband slider so that they cover your ears. This will help give you more personalized comfort. As for the bass sound, please download the Sony Headphones Connect app as it includes all sorts of tools which can be customized to fine-tune your music. There is even an EQ for bass and treble sound. This will give you more control over your headphones and their performance. I hope this helps.

By now, you've probably read all the reviews in the industry press and a bunch of reviews from people who own these, and all of them tell you that these are the best wireless, noise canceling headphones you can buy in 2021. Believe everything you've read and go ahead and purchase these with confidence!! - The noise cancelling is so good it's almost disorienting at first! - The sound stage is detailed and relatively neutral with nothing being artificially hyped. AND if you want to alter things to better suit your taste, the SONY Headphones app lets you adjust the EQ (and many other features) to your hearts content. - They are incredibly comfortable to wear for l-o-n-g periods of time and the battery life is nothing short of phenomenal. I'm going nearly a full week between charges and I'm using them alot! - They use SONY's LDAC codec for near lossless streaming of tunes over Bluetooth, contributing to their amazing sound. This Codec is supported on all of the Android devices I own but it's not supported in Windows - that is literally the only disappointing thing about these headphones though and in reality, it's a small quibble. - They can pair to multiple devices simultaneously - so you can listen to music on your computer for example, and seamlessly switch to your phone to answer an incoming call for example - a really handy feature! I could list many other really nice things about these headphones but at this point, I think I'd suggest that you stop reading and go buy them. You'll be mighty happy that you did!!

This headphone is excellent and completely surpassed my expectations, and I say this having used the Bose 700. The EQ is great for adjusting the sound quality and the battery life is definitely very long and will last even longer if you turn noise canceling off. The noise cancelling works very well. Note that it isn't complete silent, but it might as well be silent when you have music playing. The ambient mode is handy for hearing the outside world when someone is talking to you. More on the noise canceling, at first when you use it, it might not work very well. That's normal. If you calibrate the noise canceling through the Sony app, however, it will drastically improve the noise cancellation quality. I notice many people were not aware you could do this. I also find myself enjoying the Speak-to-Chat mode more than I thought I would. It's a feature that automatically pauses the music when you talk to someone and turns back on after certain amount of seconds that you can set through the app. I'm also happy that you don't have to use this in wireless mode if for example you have a device that doesn't support bluetooth or if you wanted to save on battery. My only complaint is that the splitter isn't flexible. The mic and audio connectors are split via a solid block, so unless you have a mic/audio port at exactly the same width apart as the splitter, it's not going to work. I had to buy a separate splitter, which fortunately is cheap off Amazon. The USB-C charger is nice, but the provided cable is very, very short. Maybe like 4-5 inches long at most. Fortunately, most of my devices were already USB-C, allowing me to use their connectors instead for charging. For others who don't already have a USB-C cable, this might be annoying. Connecting via bluetooth wasn't difficult. And I enjoy that you can connect to two different devices at the same time. The app Sony provides makes it easy to switch between your connections. You also can pair your headphone with your phone via NFC if your phone supports it. Just hold your phone next to the headset and it should request pairing right away. The headset comes with a single "Custom" button, but it's very limiting as you can only set it to Google Assistant, Alexa, or Noise canceling/Ambient Sound control. Now, the part that a lot of people will likely (and have) complain about is there not being any volume controller. I don't mean that this headset doesn't have one (because it does), but that people don't realize that there is one. If you read the manual carefully, you'll learn that this headset actually makes use of gestures on the right side of the headset. Using a finger, if you stroke the right speaker cup up/down, it'll adjust the volume. Sideway strokes skips to prev/next song. Double tapping it plays/pauses the song. You'll hear a "beep" if your gesture is successful. Personally, I think this is great as it keeps the headset having a nice clean simplistic look while still offering great functionality. My biggest complaint is the calling mode. Calling sounds clear enough and works great when you use it on the phone, but it sounds terrible when you use it on PC. It's because on the PC, when you want to use it for Skype/Discord/MS Teams or whatever, it has to use the AG Hands Free audio mode. In this mode, the sound you hear is like listening on a phone call, which is perfectly fine for conference calls but terrible for online gaming. The normal audio mode, however, still sounds great on PC for music/movies/solo gaming. It would have been better to separate out the microphone input and the speaker output so you can have microphone AND normal sounding audio. Maybe it does when using the wired mode, I haven't tested to say. Overall, if you were planning on using this as a possible online gaming headset, don't. If you were planning to use this headset for music, movies, solo gaming, or conference calls, however, this is really great for that. Finally, I thought this headset was going to feel incredibly large like my HyperX gaming headset. It feels surprisingly small and light. I can wear it walking around and not feel like I'm going to attract awkward attention for having a giant thing on my head.

I got these at full price and then almost immediately after purchasing them, then went on sale. Dang it. Oh well, it's fine. These are my first decen pair of over the ear headphones. While I was looking at these, I was debating between the Bose 700's, Sony XM4's, and the Airpod Max's. I went and watched plenty of reviews to come to my decision: spoiler I got the XM4's. I decided on the XM4's due to (mainly) 2-3 things. -sound -price -Quality/extra bits (sorry poor wording) Most of the reviewers I watched compared the Sony's XM4s to the Bose 700's and to not only the reviewer, but to me, the Sony's sounded better than the Bose 700's. The Bose 700's MSRP price is $379.99 vs the Sony's XM4s MSRP price is $349.99, which yes doesn't seem as much in comparison. However, the XM4's sounded better and as the reviewer noted was more comfortable and had extra features than the 700's. Features that were better were: -sound quality (NOT in terms of the mic, the Boses honestly sounded better) -price (the Sony's went down to I think 299 on sale after I got them which was good) -had detachable cable -longer battery life -comfortability The 700's do actually have better mic quality for calls, however that wasn't a feature I was too interested in. The reasons I chose this over the Airpod Max's was essentially due to the cost of the Max's. In a way I just wished I saved up more for them, but I think buying the XM4's was still a good purchase nontheless. I do however, really dislike the noise bleed and the app for these headphones. It is very annoying and even the littlest thing could trigger the headphones to completely stop the music and stop the noise cancellation mode. I *think* these headphones have touch controls, but quite honestly, I don't know how to use them and I've given up. I tried the ear scanning that is available on the headphones which you use with the app, but it wouldn't work(?) Somebody might correct me on this, I'm not sure. I will add that the sound is good and works well. The bluetooth pairs fast and there is a voice to tell you when the battery goes low or needs to be charged. It does use USB type C so that is a definite plus. The sound does have a bit of a punch. It can get loud. Pretty bassy (which is not always a good thing), but I don't *feel* it muddys the sound. (I am no sound expert, this is just how I feel and experienced with these headphones.) I do think it can get to the point it can give you a headache and or make your ears tired and take them off. So please be warry of that. In summary, I think these ARE good headphones for a lot of people. The sound quality is good, the mics are maybe not as on par as the Bose 700's, but I think it's more than just acceptable. I think these are a good alternative to something like the 700's and Airpod Max's in terms of feature to price. Definitely good for on sale price if you can get them. I don't like the app and I don't really use it, however that's an individual thing whether they use it or not. I don't want to rate it as excellent, but I DO feel they are better than just good. so 4.5 stars.

I adore these headphones. I live in a loud neighborhood where my neighbors play music throughout the day in the summer and, occasionally, during all hours of the night. These headphones silence the maddening crowd allowing concentration, relaxation, and sleep. Costly? Yes, but not as expensive as buying a new home. Sound quality is excellent too. My music plays flawlessly and I'm noticing a deeper range. I've paired these to my Android and MacBook without issue. Aesthetically speaking the color and look are beautiful. I love the midnight blue and the materials are well put together. These headphones are exceedingly comfortable too. I occasionally wear these to sleep and I feel fine. I've got a moderate size head and larger than normal ears. No matter. Sony crafted a great solution. Battery life is amazing. I could keep these on 24 hours and avoid all noise from my neighbors. Few things in life are worth the cost. These headphones exceed my expectations in every way. I can't imagine you will be disappointed... Thank you Sony!

They are nearly perfect headphones. Extremely lightweight and good build with quality material. Airpod max might be metal and feel sturdy but they are heavier and create neck strain. The only thing missing from these are replaceable ear pads like the airpods. Considering they wear a lot it would be nice to replace them after a couple of years. Also sell fabric ones because leather is great only for a while and they do make your ears sweat and damp. That is my only gripe, they sound great, amazing anc, very compact, software updates get rid of bugs, very comfy, and they are arguably the best headphones out there. Factor in the price and this has to be the most underrated deal rn

Excellent headphones! Noise cancellation is great, I have been a Bose customer for a few years and enjoyed their QuietComfort headphones. The noise cancellation is honestly the same if not slightly better on these headphones! I love the design and finish of these ones, the case is very sturdy, and the touch controls are great once you get used to them. Hands down the feature that sold me is the ability to cup your hand over the right headphone and temporarily lower your music while turning on transparency/active listening mode so you can hear a quick announcement; I travel a lot so these will be great for my next flight! The battery also lasts super long; the only downside is that the app is a bit confusing/unintuitive but nothing you can't handle with a bit of investigation or a quick google search.

Muddy, dirty bass out of the box. Can be fixed by downloading the Sony Headphones app, going to equalizer and tuning Clear Bass up at least 1 or 2 notches. The other frequency bands can be tailored to your liking as well. For further tuning, I recommend the Wavelet app which has a Sony XM4 preset but also allows custom tuning for the lower Hz bands. Feature wise, these headphones are great. Love the multipoint connection between 2 sources. I switch between PC and phone seamlessly with almost no lag/sync issues. The ANC is fine, you won't be sealed off from the outside, it just reduces outside noise coming in by a bit. Coolest feature is cupping the right cup for Ambient Sound in case someone's trying to talk to you. Shows how noisy your environment can really be, too. The touch controls are kind of sensitive, raising audio oftentimes pauses a track. You can't customize the touch controls but they are standard, swipe up/down for volume, swipe left/right for next/previous and double tap to pause. Haven't tested microphone enough for quality, for some reason it actually doesn't pick up in Discord, Teams or my voice recorder app, probably only phone calls. The lightweight and compact form factor is a plus especially with the convenient carrying case. Personally, I think this a good buy at a sale price (got it for $278). Wireless headphones will always have compromises, at least in audio quality. These are by no means perfect but still quite good, after tweaking. My only regret is that I knew coming in that these don't support passive audio via USB-C, only charging, and I didn't think it'd be a big deal but, when using it on PC, it would be convenient to connect and charge and be able to listen simultaneously. Regardless, a 30+ hour battery life and 10 minute quick charge for 5 hours makes this a trivial matter. Overall, solid headphones, they sound great with songs with string instruments, electronic/synth, even rock/metal, some hip-hop/R&B songs have weird bass production and honestly, it's hit or miss, some sound better with the bass raised more but then the mids are muted. Like I said, compromises.

First ANC headphones that don't give me a headache

I have never been able to wear noise-cancelling headphones with active noise cancellation (ANC) on without getting a headache until these. I tried the XM3s in store last year and got a headache just wearing them for a few minutes. I bought the XM4s assuming I would eventually return them because of side effects of ANC, but thought I would give them a try because of so many good reviews. I'm glad I did. When I first paired the headphones with my phone I put on some music, opened the tutorial in the app, and learned how to cycle through the noise-cancelling modes. I wanted to go right into ANC mode to see if it was indeed improved (as I'd seen in reviews) or if it would start bothering me right away. That's when I realized the headphones were already in ANC mode and that the side effects I experienced on other headphones (starts as a weird pressure, almost like your ears need to pop, and a temporary ringing, eventually leading to a headache) were not there. With the XM3s I noticed the pressure feeling immediately. With these it hasn't happened while using them for almost two weeks, with listening sessions of up to 45 minutes straight. I wanted to focus on ANC-induced headaches in this review because I know others suffer with the same issues from ANC headphones. If you have experienced similar side effects from other headphones I'd recommend giving these a try. Otherwise they are comfortable (I have a big head!), sound really good, are easy to use, have phenomenal battery life (I'm still on the initial charge), and a sturdy case that keeps them well protected. I highly recommend these headphones.

These headphones are one of the— if not the most comfortable headphones i’ve ever worn. The cushion on the ears makes it feel as if you’re not even wearing them. The headphones do really well with noise cancellation, in fact, you can control its listening modes through the app that you download during set up. The battery life is amazing. I can go without charging these for multiple days sometimes, but it does depend on the listening mode and the length of use between usages. Using these headphones without break will get you about 7 hours of listening time WITH noise cancellation on. Overall, the purchase was highly worth it and I find myself using them quite often!

Had to grab these after my Beats Studio 3s broke after falling from 2 feet. The sound quality in these is levels better and the sound connect app just makes the experience so much more personalized. Build quality is nice for the price point and isn’t a bunch of plastic everywhere. Great sized case and comes with 3.5mm jack, EU connector, and charging cable. Only thing is the charging cable is really short but you can just buy and aftermarket. Battery life is excellent and it connects to my iPhone, Mac, and TV seamlessly

Trying to find the best headphones for you is hard. I ended up returning and here’s why. Sound Quality - 5 stars Loudness - 4 stars Build Quality - 5 Usability - 4 stars Comfort - 5 stars Compatibility - 2 stars Noise Canceling - 5 stars Noise Isolation - 3 stars The sound quality is great but I can’t help but wish they were louder with more punch. After trying the Sony WH-XB900N these weren’t that far off. The comfort, noise isolation, usability was about the same and I really didn’t feel a 200 difference in quality. The main reason for returning is for compatibility and usability . I am both an Apple and a Windows User. These headphones will not work in Gaming Apps for some odd reason. So compatibility wise for me at least they suck. Also I have to mention as an Apple user these headphones don’t automagically pair to all my devices. That didn’t make my decision necessarily but it a noteworthy mention. I didn’t mind having to pair them but when they started choosing when they were going to work well the price you pay for the headset doesn’t seem justified. The noise canceling was great but the isolation could be better as I could still hear the TV in another room and the vacuum cleaner running in another room. Albeit less then normal and at a tolerable level it was still distracting while working for home. Noise still bleeds in from heads which kinda make the noise canceling less effective. Usability wise I hate the touch controls. If I’m stretching, grabbing at some while laying down my arms some times would accidentally touch the heads which depending on where they touched changed the song and or adjusted volume I ended going with the Beats Solo Pros because they where just as good in the sound department and better than the XB900. Noise Canceling is slightly worse but not that far off and in some instances I feel it may win out cause the isolation may be better IMO. The headphones work with everything in Windows and as a plus I do not have to re-pair with my Apple devices. I would definitely recommend trying these but for me there a no go.
