The noise cancellation is unlike other headphones as it doesn't have a weird affect on your ears. The sound quality is also exceptional. The only drawback I see is the volume isn't as long as some other headphones.

Your feedback about its volume is greatly appreciated. For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is up-to-date (via the Sony Headphones Connect app).
The overall volume may vary depending on the source content. Make sure to adjust the volume of the headset and source device. Reconnect the headphones again with your source device. It is also recommended to wear the headphones properly.

To improve the volume range, you can download in your phone the Sony | Sound Connect app and check for firmware updates: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wh-1000xm4/software/00261613
Also, you can adjust the Equalizer settings to boost certain frequencies or overall gain.
In the app, set Sound Quality Mode to Priority on Sound Quality, which can improve dynamic range.

As do I he can listen to his music, watch his shows/movies on his phone or laptop and I don’t have to hear it lol. It’s great... He even talks on his phone & face time calls with the headphones. I use them almost daily, they sound excellent for wireless, and they are a total gamechanger on airplanes, subways, and riding passenger in a car. They're pricy, but you cant beat em!

They are replacing an older model WH-1000XM3, that broke just as the warranty expired. I hope these last longer, as they are the best for blocking airplane noise.

Great fit and feel. I came from the xm3s so its very minor in terms of an upgrade from the previous version. I wouldn't have grabbed them if it wasnt for the massive price drop. But the app the is necessary for at least the first Bluetooth connection to a device is meh. Its tries to make it easy to connect and modify the settings but its messy. It was alot simplier to connect to the headphones through my Bluetooth settings. But once that's done, everything works well and its becomes simple to customize settings and do system upgrades. If you dont wanna spend the money on the newest version and still have a great listen experience, get these headphones. Just have some patience first using the app.

The noise cancellation at work and on airplanes is incredible. I’ve had some synching with my phone, but I don’t really care about that.
