||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely in love with these headphones. They're pricey but worth it. The sound is amazing and the noise cancellation is great. I can wear these for a long period without my ear hurting, which is honestly a huge plus. I assumed they were going to be heavy but they actually aren't. Another thing is the battery, I charge these once a week or two.

I was happier with bose
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been a Bose and Apple guy. Then I bought Sony. I’m a fan of Sony. But the Bluetooth connection on this headset keeps dropping. It’s not as intelligent as Bose when automatically switching between my phone and fire tv. The touch controls were annoying, I had to disable it so now I can only control the volume via my phone or tv - but worth it to remove the annoying feature. Sound quality is better than Bose but not by much (q35). It’s tighter than my Bose and pressing on my ear so I have to take a break when wearing. Noise canceling is better in Bose. Great to wear if you have glasses.

Posted .Hi Rion,
We are glad we could earn you as a fan and that you recognize the superior sound quality of the WH-1000XM4 headset! We apologize for the issues you are experiencing with the Bluetooth connection dropping and the multipoint switching not being as seamless as you'd like; this is often linked to the "Prioritize Sound Quality" setting, and we recommend changing it to "Prioritize Stable Connection" in the Sony | Headphones Connect app to improve connection reliability. Regarding comfort, the clamping force is a design element for optimal acoustic sealing and Noise Cancelling performance, but we are sorry to hear it feels tight. Your decision to disable the touch controls is a valid way to customize your experience. If the disconnection issues persist after changing the setting, please ensure your headset firmware is up to date, or contact Sony Product Support at 1-800-222-7669 for dedicated troubleshooting.
Thanks for choosing Sony.

SONY beats BOSE
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to do am "in-store" comparison between the Bose QC 35 I have owned for about the last 2 years and the Sony WH-1000XM4. Unfortunately, the demo station in the branch nearest to where I live, never had the demo model set up properly and, besides, I wouldn't be able to compare the same music. Well, now that I have bought a pair of these great headphones and have finally done an "in-home" comparison, listening to the same song, I can truthfully say that this Sony model is superior to the Bose QC 35. While the Bose model has produced very good sound and the noise cancellation has been excellent, the bass on the Sony is much stronger and the overall clarity of the music is noticeably sharper. Also, the Sony app provides a much superior Equalizer experience for customizing your own settings, allowing you to set up TWO custom pre-sets. The Sony even feels more comfortable than the Bose which wasn't ever UN-comfortable. The Sony just feels "softer" and "lighter" by a small margin. The Sony app even allows a more custom fit by allowing you to measure your ears using photos you take. Until recently, BB was carrying the previous model, the Sony - WH -1000XM3 but this has been, I'm guessing, phased out for the slightly more advanced XM4 released by Sony in 2020. My needs for using this headphone are very basic. I don;t really use the voice or phonecall feaures, so I'm not in a position to state how well that works. I did use the volume feature on the right earcup, (no button, you simply raise or lower the volume by running your finger vertically up or down the earcup exterior), and that worked fine and the connection between the Sony app and the headphones paired effortlessly. All in all, I'd say that, soundwise, (especially because I like extra bass), these are superior to the Bose QC 35, and are worth the price if you want the more expensive noise cancellation headphone experience.

Lobe my XM4s my daily drivers jack of all trade
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The active noise cancelling makes these entry level audiophile grade even though the drivers are dynamic so comfortable you can wear them for over 40 hrs fyll vol longer with anc and silence it has a feature to not allow them to auto shutdown if no audio and with anc on its amazing. has i believe 5 mics you can always swap to the mics and hear around you in approz 15ft radius so you dont shout with them on also. they full charge in under 2hrs.. and rarely need it. these are the@perfexted xmark 1s and better than the xm5s they're very nice and i own audeze lcdx pairs also. this is my 2nd set just because. my orig is fine. do yourself a favor hop online spent the 25. bucks on Wicked Cushions for these. the stocks are a bit flat. you'll get more dynamic range also. they install in no time the plastic behind the ear cusion unsnaps then just snap the others on in under a min.

Worth all the hype? Yup!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I grabbed these on sale on 3.8.22. There was so much hype surrounding these, so I pulled the trigger. I can honestly give a review after owning them for 17 days! My taste in music ranges from bands like Rotting Christ, Behemoth, Slayer and in a flash, I can go to Frank Sinatra. Yes, I know it's a great range in genre, but these headphones keep me happy. I don't find them to be too bass happy or treble happy, but I would rather call them neutral sounding. I'm not an audiophile, but I can't find any issues with these at all. The Sony app works just fine on my S22 Ultra and it gives the ability to tweak the EQ where I want it. They are very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The noise cancelling feature is quite nice compared to my Bose QC 25's. I don't feel the pressure on my ears that I do with my Bose. Battery life thus far has been good. The longest I have had them on (on and off to be honest but still powered on) was when washing my two vehicles and my motorcycle and still had a ton of battery left. Estimated time I used them was about 6 hours. I love the color as well; the blue is very nicely done, and the picture doesn't do it any justice. The only complaint is the USB C cable is so short! I have a charging station for all my devices and the included cable is too small. I suppose if you are using your laptop and need a quick charge, the size of the cable would be fine. Are these worth the hype? In my opinion they are and if you can wait for a sale, grab them!

Great quality headphones
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased these headphones to replace my Bose QC15's which have finally worn out. I considered these and the Bose QC35 II's, the QC45's and the 700's. On sale for Black Friday, these were just a bit cheaper than the comparable headphones, the 45's and the 700's. For me they were also just a bit more comfortable, and the noise cancelling gave me more options. I hate the look of the 700's, and the Sony worked just a bit better than the 45's. I have a doctorate in music performance, so I am judging the noise cancelling on how well it does, and these really block almost everything, and how they sound. The fidelity to the sound is very high. Plugged into my phone or computer, the volume setting needs to be almost at the lowest and is still super clear. Can't yet imagine these at the airport! I love the color (midnight blue)! It's just a bit lighter, and different from, the typical black, and it's also not white or silver. Nothing wrong with the colors Sony has chosen, but I wanted something that didn't scream out for notice, but was still not black. These headphones work great with just the cable, not even using the noise cancelling, and the charge lasts a long time, and I'm not even using a battery that I have to remember to replace. I should have upgraded a long time ago, but I may not have considered Sony's headphones back then. I don't know if these are the best noise cancelling headphones on the market, but all my searches compared these with different Bose models. I am very pleased with this purchase, and I can't recommend them heartily enough!

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Probably the best over-the-ear headphone I have used. I am a jazz enthusiast and as such needed a decent headphone that will provide the proper definition and clarity of all the instruments that are at play. This headphone provided me with exactly that. The fact that it has an extra boost for the bass is a bonus. The noise cancellation feature is also very effective and true. I did buy a Bose Quiet Comfort initially but found the Sony to be better suited and more comfortable. I have used it also for office meetings in MS Teams. The headphone behaved perfectly there too unlike the Bose that dropped me off the Teams a couple of times. One comment I need to add though is that I am not sure what the "Silver" is all about, but obviously that is nothing to be held against. I will highly recommend this headphone, especially for music enthusiasts.

I love using the sound proofing when I am reading something in a busy area. The battery last a long time as well. Took a road trip that was about 8 hours. A majority of the time i used the sound proofing and then listened to music for a bit and my headphones had 90% battery.

Worth the hype
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These headphones have been hyped up as the king of headphones for several years now. And it's all true; they are simply phenomenal. But a price point of $350 was a little more that I was willing/able to spring for a pair of headphones for a long time. But I got them on sale for $278, and can I just say, worth it. There are very few things to dislike about them. The bass is substantial, and if you don't fancy as much rattle than you can just tweak the EQ from the app, which is also awesome and very easy to use. I haven't even mentioned the ANC yet, which is probably the headline feature. It reduces road noise to a distant memory. I have yet to try them on a plane, so I can't quite speak on that yet but I'm sure they're great there too. The case is great. If you want portable headphones these are the ones for you. They are very light and comfortable, and for as good as the ANC is, the cabin pressure is almost non-existent. These are worth saving up for, is suggest waiting till they go on sale because that's a much better price. The only thing that could be improved is the water resistance. They can't handle any water whatsoever, and with the location of the mics and whatnot I am slightly concerned about wearing them in rain. But if you're looking for amazing ANC, great, hefty bass, and comfortable, portable headphones, these are the ones for you.

Excellent for music, movies, and conference calls
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This headphone is excellent and completely surpassed my expectations, and I say this having used the Bose 700. The EQ is great for adjusting the sound quality and the battery life is definitely very long and will last even longer if you turn noise canceling off. The noise cancelling works very well. Note that it isn't complete silent, but it might as well be silent when you have music playing. The ambient mode is handy for hearing the outside world when someone is talking to you. More on the noise canceling, at first when you use it, it might not work very well. That's normal. If you calibrate the noise canceling through the Sony app, however, it will drastically improve the noise cancellation quality. I notice many people were not aware you could do this. I also find myself enjoying the Speak-to-Chat mode more than I thought I would. It's a feature that automatically pauses the music when you talk to someone and turns back on after certain amount of seconds that you can set through the app. I'm also happy that you don't have to use this in wireless mode if for example you have a device that doesn't support bluetooth or if you wanted to save on battery. My only complaint is that the splitter isn't flexible. The mic and audio connectors are split via a solid block, so unless you have a mic/audio port at exactly the same width apart as the splitter, it's not going to work. I had to buy a separate splitter, which fortunately is cheap off Amazon. The USB-C charger is nice, but the provided cable is very, very short. Maybe like 4-5 inches long at most. Fortunately, most of my devices were already USB-C, allowing me to use their connectors instead for charging. For others who don't already have a USB-C cable, this might be annoying. Connecting via bluetooth wasn't difficult. And I enjoy that you can connect to two different devices at the same time. The app Sony provides makes it easy to switch between your connections. You also can pair your headphone with your phone via NFC if your phone supports it. Just hold your phone next to the headset and it should request pairing right away. The headset comes with a single "Custom" button, but it's very limiting as you can only set it to Google Assistant, Alexa, or Noise canceling/Ambient Sound control. Now, the part that a lot of people will likely (and have) complain about is there not being any volume controller. I don't mean that this headset doesn't have one (because it does), but that people don't realize that there is one. If you read the manual carefully, you'll learn that this headset actually makes use of gestures on the right side of the headset. Using a finger, if you stroke the right speaker cup up/down, it'll adjust the volume. Sideway strokes skips to prev/next song. Double tapping it plays/pauses the song. You'll hear a "beep" if your gesture is successful. Personally, I think this is great as it keeps the headset having a nice clean simplistic look while still offering great functionality. My biggest complaint is the calling mode. Calling sounds clear enough and works great when you use it on the phone, but it sounds terrible when you use it on PC. It's because on the PC, when you want to use it for Skype/Discord/MS Teams or whatever, it has to use the AG Hands Free audio mode. In this mode, the sound you hear is like listening on a phone call, which is perfectly fine for conference calls but terrible for online gaming. The normal audio mode, however, still sounds great on PC for music/movies/solo gaming. It would have been better to separate out the microphone input and the speaker output so you can have microphone AND normal sounding audio. Maybe it does when using the wired mode, I haven't tested to say. Overall, if you were planning on using this as a possible online gaming headset, don't. If you were planning to use this headset for music, movies, solo gaming, or conference calls, however, this is really great for that. Finally, I thought this headset was going to feel incredibly large like my HyperX gaming headset. It feels surprisingly small and light. I can wear it walking around and not feel like I'm going to attract awkward attention for having a giant thing on my head.

Pretty Close to Perfect
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.By now, you've probably read all the reviews in the industry press and a bunch of reviews from people who own these, and all of them tell you that these are the best wireless, noise canceling headphones you can buy in 2021. Believe everything you've read and go ahead and purchase these with confidence!! - The noise cancelling is so good it's almost disorienting at first! - The sound stage is detailed and relatively neutral with nothing being artificially hyped. AND if you want to alter things to better suit your taste, the SONY Headphones app lets you adjust the EQ (and many other features) to your hearts content. - They are incredibly comfortable to wear for l-o-n-g periods of time and the battery life is nothing short of phenomenal. I'm going nearly a full week between charges and I'm using them alot! - They use SONY's LDAC codec for near lossless streaming of tunes over Bluetooth, contributing to their amazing sound. This Codec is supported on all of the Android devices I own but it's not supported in Windows - that is literally the only disappointing thing about these headphones though and in reality, it's a small quibble. - They can pair to multiple devices simultaneously - so you can listen to music on your computer for example, and seamlessly switch to your phone to answer an incoming call for example - a really handy feature! I could list many other really nice things about these headphones but at this point, I think I'd suggest that you stop reading and go buy them. You'll be mighty happy that you did!!

They're good, probably wait for sale
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got these at full price and then almost immediately after purchasing them, then went on sale. Dang it. Oh well, it's fine. These are my first decen pair of over the ear headphones. While I was looking at these, I was debating between the Bose 700's, Sony XM4's, and the Airpod Max's. I went and watched plenty of reviews to come to my decision: spoiler I got the XM4's. I decided on the XM4's due to (mainly) 2-3 things. -sound -price -Quality/extra bits (sorry poor wording) Most of the reviewers I watched compared the Sony's XM4s to the Bose 700's and to not only the reviewer, but to me, the Sony's sounded better than the Bose 700's. The Bose 700's MSRP price is $379.99 vs the Sony's XM4s MSRP price is $349.99, which yes doesn't seem as much in comparison. However, the XM4's sounded better and as the reviewer noted was more comfortable and had extra features than the 700's. Features that were better were: -sound quality (NOT in terms of the mic, the Boses honestly sounded better) -price (the Sony's went down to I think 299 on sale after I got them which was good) -had detachable cable -longer battery life -comfortability The 700's do actually have better mic quality for calls, however that wasn't a feature I was too interested in. The reasons I chose this over the Airpod Max's was essentially due to the cost of the Max's. In a way I just wished I saved up more for them, but I think buying the XM4's was still a good purchase nontheless. I do however, really dislike the noise bleed and the app for these headphones. It is very annoying and even the littlest thing could trigger the headphones to completely stop the music and stop the noise cancellation mode. I *think* these headphones have touch controls, but quite honestly, I don't know how to use them and I've given up. I tried the ear scanning that is available on the headphones which you use with the app, but it wouldn't work(?) Somebody might correct me on this, I'm not sure. I will add that the sound is good and works well. The bluetooth pairs fast and there is a voice to tell you when the battery goes low or needs to be charged. It does use USB type C so that is a definite plus. The sound does have a bit of a punch. It can get loud. Pretty bassy (which is not always a good thing), but I don't *feel* it muddys the sound. (I am no sound expert, this is just how I feel and experienced with these headphones.) I do think it can get to the point it can give you a headache and or make your ears tired and take them off. So please be warry of that. In summary, I think these ARE good headphones for a lot of people. The sound quality is good, the mics are maybe not as on par as the Bose 700's, but I think it's more than just acceptable. I think these are a good alternative to something like the 700's and Airpod Max's in terms of feature to price. Definitely good for on sale price if you can get them. I don't like the app and I don't really use it, however that's an individual thing whether they use it or not. I don't want to rate it as excellent, but I DO feel they are better than just good. so 4.5 stars.

||Posted . They get really loud and the bass can be pretty accurate and good in a few songs. They are comfortable to wear for long periods of time and the battery is really great, I didn't bother to charge them for a few weeks (with medium usage and regular hours per day). They are a little overpriced but overall a good pair of headphones for the buck.

Amazing but...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They are nearly perfect headphones. Extremely lightweight and good build with quality material. Airpod max might be metal and feel sturdy but they are heavier and create neck strain. The only thing missing from these are replaceable ear pads like the airpods. Considering they wear a lot it would be nice to replace them after a couple of years. Also sell fabric ones because leather is great only for a while and they do make your ears sweat and damp. That is my only gripe, they sound great, amazing anc, very compact, software updates get rid of bugs, very comfy, and they are arguably the best headphones out there. Factor in the price and this has to be the most underrated deal rn

Cancelling My Neighborhood
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I adore these headphones. I live in a loud neighborhood where my neighbors play music throughout the day in the summer and, occasionally, during all hours of the night. These headphones silence the maddening crowd allowing concentration, relaxation, and sleep. Costly? Yes, but not as expensive as buying a new home. Sound quality is excellent too. My music plays flawlessly and I'm noticing a deeper range. I've paired these to my Android and MacBook without issue. Aesthetically speaking the color and look are beautiful. I love the midnight blue and the materials are well put together. These headphones are exceedingly comfortable too. I occasionally wear these to sleep and I feel fine. I've got a moderate size head and larger than normal ears. No matter. Sony crafted a great solution. Battery life is amazing. I could keep these on 24 hours and avoid all noise from my neighbors. Few things in life are worth the cost. These headphones exceed my expectations in every way. I can't imagine you will be disappointed... Thank you Sony!

Very soundproof and noise cancelling, they do not fall off like others and very convenient in the winter during the cold. Battery lasts very long after one full charge.
