"Smart" headphones utterly stupid

The "smart" features on these headphones are annoying enough to make me want to throw these things out the window each and every time I use them. Let's talk about "Speak to Chat". This setting detects when you're speaking, and turns off the device. Say you're wearing these in a work meeting and they're connected to your laptop - a reasonable scenario, right? They have a built in microphone after all. But when you go to speak or give a presentation, the device just shuts off. You need to go into the app on your phone to turn off the "Speak to Chat" feature that just suddenly broke your audio, only you can't just disable it, you have to first disconnect the headphones from your laptop, then connect to the phone so that the app can adjust the setting. Then after it's turned off, you need to reconnect to your laptop to continue your meeting. Good luck troubleshooting this on the fly. But you turn it off once, and never have to worry about it again, right? Wrong, "Speak to Chat" resets and defaults to "active" with each software update. This means at any time wearing these headphones you could speak and if there's been a software update, your headphones will just shut off. Touching and holding fingers to the right earpiece for 3 seconds, will enable/disable "Speak to Chat" feature, which I had to go to reddit to learn. A handy tip for disabling it quickly, but also a trap for accidentally enabling it. Everyone wants a wire they can just cut to kill this permanently, it is so incredibly annoying. And that is just one of the many absolutely terrible "smart" features that are totally unavoidable with these headphones. You need the app to operate these. The "Pause when headphones are removed" and "Automatic Power Off" features never work, so almost every time I pick these headphones up to use them, they're dead and need recharging because they've just been sitting on doing nothing since I last took them off. Can you use them while they charge? Nope! Lesson learned: the next headphones I buy will never use the word "smart" in any description, and they almost certainly will not be Sony. They are decent sound quality, so when they work, they're good. (PS: AFAIA, these issues are in the XM5 as well /smile)

Hype leads to disapointment

Noise cancellation is great sound is not great they dont play loud enough for my taste blue tooth calling is poor every one complaining I sound muffled. Im trading these in for something better

These headphones cancel noise like crazy, even without playing something. I use them for school and working out. They are better than the apple producs, and cheaper. Bluetooth rarely connects to the right device.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The sound quality is great, but if you pair these headphones to two devices, they will always choose the wrong device. You can be on a Zoom call on your computer and if someone calls on your phone—even if you don't answer it—these headphones will switch to your phone and not switch back until you've powered them off and on again. If you're playing music on your phone and open a browser window that autoplays sound, you'll have to restart the headphones, restart the music app, and then restart the headphones again. I've mostly solved the problem by never connecting these to my phone, or turning off Bluetooth in my phone when I'm using the computer. The microphone in these sounds a little bass and flat when used in Zoom calls, but it's fine.

They come with an app that lets you adjust and personalize the settings. The noise cancellation settings are pretty good! Right on par with Bose I'd say. My only qualm is that you cannot personalize the sound settings while connected on macbooks. The app only allows you to do it while the headphones are connected to your phone rather than other devices.

Great sound, issues with Zoom
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a long time fan of my Bose QC35s and spend most days on back to back Zoom calls for work. But I've had these for about 3.5 years so I figured it was time for something newer and hopefully better. After lots of research, it seemed the Sony WH-1000XM4s were newer and better. They do have really great sound quality when listening to music or editing video projects. The app seems fine as well. But where things get weird is when I use them with Zoom. Several people have said that I now sound like I'm talking through a radio, and when I turn them off and put the Bose back on, they notice a drastic difference in how I sound to them. Curious if anyone else has experienced this or if perhaps my pair is a lemon? I doubt it though. Considering I spend so much time in Zoom, I don't think I can justify keeping these headphones if I now sound worse to those on the other end. If you're just listening to music, they're great headphones, but again, for the price they should be great at everything they do.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.stating pros and cons over 1000xm3s pros xm4s have multipoint where it can connect to more devices. xm4s use bluetooth 5.0 sound profile can sound better to audiophiles but xm3 is still good for every other type of audience cons with ANC on the xm4s are about 20 hrs while xm3 are 24 hrs.. sony lied about the 30 hrs. the xm4s dont have aptX codec while xm3s do it xm4s have bad touch controls so you may use the app more. if you can find a sale on it go for it, If not stick to the xm3s
