Sony ruined it

Did not realize that they do this. I have Bose noise cancelling headphones and they do not do that. Only gripe because they are actually good.

What you're experiencing is a feature called Speak-to-Chat. It’s designed to automatically pause your music and let in ambient sound as soon as you start speaking, so you can have a quick conversation without taking your headphones off. We understand it can be unexpected if you prefer to sing along or talk while listening!
The good news is that you can easily turn this off. You can either:
Use the App: Disable "Speak-to-Chat" in the Sony | Headphones Connect app.
Use a Gesture: Place two fingers on the right ear cup touch sensor and hold until you hear "Speak-to-chat deactivated."

Even my tech opposed father enjoyed them
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased these for my father who is not particularly techy, and is typically rather frugal when it comes to tech (i.e. if he's able to hear sound coming from the cheapest pair of headphones possible, those are the ones he wants). I took a shot in the dark and bought him these headphones as a gift, but he enjoyed them so much that he wanted a replacement pair when he lost the originals on a trip. Since then I bought myself the earbud version wf 1000xm4 and my girlfrield also has the WH-1000XM4. We are all very satisfied. While I don't consider myself an audiophile, I think these headphones sound great for a middle of the road pair, and the noise cancelling is excellent. I have always had a hard time with over the ear headphones as they make my head uncomfortable after even short amounts of wear, but I found these headphones to be as comfortable as any I have tried.

Near Perfect Over-the-Ear Headphones

It blocks the loud ambient noise of lawn mower and leaf blowers while I'm working as well as the dog barking. The sound quality is really good. I haven't tried to use the app yet but turning on noise-cancelling mode is really easy with a clear announcement that has been turned on or off. My only complaint is the ear cups can get a little warm for my liking but this is probably only a problem during the summer.

Great upgrade except for an ANC issue

Pairing with multiple devices alone was a big plus, as I switch regularly between phone and tablet. After software updates this has been fairly seamless, and the headphones don't have a problem going between devices. They are comfortable and feature excellent sound quality just like the XM3s did. However, I have an issue where there is an audible 'hiss/white noise' in the background when in ANC. While this of course is much less noticeable when playing audio, this did NOT happen with my XM3s so I'm not sure if this is something wrong with my pair or if this is present in all XM4s. If so, that's an unfortunate change and something that really keeps this from being the perfect upgrade from the XM3s.

I’ve always felt that Bluetooth sacrifices sound quality but these seem to overcome that. Worth the money, noice canceling is exceptional and they’re comfortable
