We're genuinely sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with audio bleed and noise cancellation.
Here are a couple of things you can try to improve these problems:

1) Make sure the headphones are sitting snugly and fully covering your ears. Even a small gap around the bottom or back can let sound out and let ambient noise in. Try adjusting the headband or tilting the earcups slightly.

2) Your XM4s have a fantastic "NC Optimizer" feature that calibrates the noise cancellation to your specific head shape, hair, glasses and even atmospheric pressure.
Make sure you've run the optimization recently, especially if you're traveling or if your environment has changed. You can find this option in the Sony | Sound Connect app.

3) Double-check in the app to ensure the Noise Cancelling mode is fully active and not set to Ambient Sound.

4) Also, sometimes a firmware update can address performance issues, so make sure your headphones are running the latest version within the app.

Give those steps a try! Hopefully, they'll help you unlock the full noise-cancelling and audio potential you should be getting from your WH-1000XM4s.

Their build quality is excellent and with proper maintenance, these headphones can last for a long time. Here are some tips on how to keep your Headphones in mint condition, and extend the life of your Headphones.

Tip 1. To avoid cracking or peeling of the earpads due to long term contact with bodily fluids e.g. sweat, hair oil or other body oil, always clean them by wiping it with dry soft tools such as cotton swabs, balls, or pads. Avoid using any sharp or potentially damaging materials or tools.
Tip 2. If the Headphones is particularly dirty, soak a cloth in diluted mild detergent, then wring it before wiping the surface of the Headphones. Note: Do not use solvents such as thinner, benzene, or alcohol when cleaning the earpads.
Tip 3. Always store your headphones in a case or protective bag when not in use.

Please take note that the noise canceling function of these headphones is effective in low-frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices. Make sure to adjust the headset into a comfortable position and check that the Adaptive Sound Control is turned off on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app. When the Adaptive Sound Control is turned on, the noise canceling function may become insufficient.
