Worth the money!

The sound is very clear and the controls are accurate. I don’t have many accidental control changes that are not intentional. Being lightweight makes them perfect for weightlifting and running. All of my technology has been Apple so I was nervous to step out. I do not regret my decision in the slightest!

The build and design is excellent quality. Biggest con however is not being able to listen to 3d audio unless you're subscribed to a verified app, neither of which is apple music or spotify. It also randomly disconnects sometimes. But still a fantastic pair of headphones. Overpriced.

I liked the design and my ears are more comfortable when wearing for a long time. (lighter than XM4 and it covers my ears better +better leather quality). Bigger headphone case doesn't matter to me much because I wear it when I travel.

Comfortable and great noise canceling

I was going on a trip, so I picked these up. I have to say these are more comfortable than the Bose. The noise canceling is great. Many YouTubers complained about the case, but since I was used to the Bose case, that was not an issue at all. I highly recommend these. They are comfortable, have great noise canceling and long battery life.

Worth the price... Excellent sound and features

Do yourself a favor and grab these. The sound is truly amazing at all frequencies. Solid bass. Excellent high and mids. The ability to switch off the noise cancelling feature makes conversations with people around seamless without the need to yell or remove the cans. Connectivity was simple and fast. All in all a VERY solid purchase.

I loved the sound quality and noise cancellation, but as a glasses wearer my head would start hurting if I wore them for too long. I then turned to Bose’s QuietComfort but ended up returning them immediately because the sound quality and noise cancellation just didn’t match Sonys. So I decided to try the XM5s and they are truly the best headphones I’ve had. As comfortable if not more so than the Bose headphones, but with a far superior sound quality and noise cancellation. (So if you’re on the fence between the Bose and the Sony, go with the Sony!) My only very nitpicky complaint is that the microphone only works via Bluetooth, so if you’re using these headphones wired the microphone won’t work. Although this is probably not an issue for most people. And while some people don’t like that they don’t fold up I don’t mind and think the non-folding structure probably helps them feel more comfortable.

Please be advised that the microphone function of the headphones is disabled when using the supplied cable. Use the mic of your source device. These can be used with glasses. The WH-1000XM5 fits snugly around your ears. Unfortunately, they don't fold as they do in the XM4. For comfort, try adjusting the headband and the earpads properly. LOVE these headphones

The ANC on these is very good as well, I wear these at university all the time and I can attest these are amazing, much better than my AirPod Pros that I used to use for studying and writing papers

Class-leading over-the-ear headphones

Audio quality is without equal. The bass is measured and enjoyable without being overbearing. Clarity and detail are exceptional. The battery life is outstanding. I do, however, wish these were water resistant. Sony needs more songs available in 360 Reality Audio to make that a compelling draw. It didn't make me want to keep Deezer Premium. I went back to my traditional plan.

A travel must-have.

I used to travel with my airpod pro's, but they would die so quickly. These literally last forever, they are super comfortable, and they block out a ton of sound. I highly recommend these.

Amazing but noise cancelling is overhyped

The app is super easy to use, and is very customizable to your own personal fit. One thing thats weird is the headphones swivel outwards rather than inwards, meaning the inside of the headphones are exposed when around neck. Thats one thing thats odd, also the case, the flat part is actually the top. Which is funny because you would think that the flat size is the bottom (where it would rest). Just everything feels backwards when it comes to the case and how the headphones swivel. Other than that, everything is great, i love the colors too.

Sony Really Let Me Down With These

As someone who purchased the WH-1000XM2 headphones back in 2017, I was really looking forward to all the upgrades that the XM5 would provide. The upgrades were there, but so too were the problems as well. Let us begin. Pros: Excellent sound, fantastic noise canceling, very comfortable to wear, felt like a premium product to hold, lightweight, and I was a fan of the beige color. I would use these when traveling throughout NYC and commuting to work. The noise cancellation was so good that when standing on the subway platform and waiting for an oncoming train -- if I closed my eyes -- I could forget that I was on a busy platform while listening to my music. Cons: A few months after buying them, there came an issue where the sound would go out for 10-20 seconds at a time. It would happen randomly when walking, sitting, on a bus, or wherever. It didn't matter what type of audio I listened to, be it music or podcasts. It got to the point that I just stopped using the headphones altogether. I'm not sure if this issue is a cold-weather thing, as I began to notice beginning in October of last year when the temperature started to drop (interestingly, I purchased these headphones in December of '22, and there were no problems during that winter). Nevertheless, I went back to using the XM2s. Yes, I've gone back to using the same headphones that I thought would have been retired by now, but the XM5s were inconsistent with maintaining their audio. I'm so disappointed with these headphones and Sony. Perhaps I had a defective product, but for something that's nearly $400, constantly losing sound at any place at any time is incredibly frustrating. So, in the end, despite the excellent sound quality (when it would work) and noise cancellation, I can't in good conscience recommend anyone buy these headphones based on my experience with them. Again, I've had no problems with the XM2s, and they're almost 8 years old at this point. Sony, please get your act together because this was such a letdown.

While we're glad that you like most of the features, we are sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your WH-1000XM5 disconnecting from your device randomly. We have taken note of your issues. We'd love to troubleshoot the issue and make this a better experience for you. In the meantime, please make sure that the headphones has the latest software updates (via the Sony Sound Connect app) as this will help improve the overall performance of the WH-1000XM5.
In some cases, such as when you wear the headphones over a cap, a scarf, hair, etc., the sensors may not detect that you are wearing them and may turn them off. Be sure to set the earpads over the ears. Also, check the proximity sensor. If the proximity sensor part inside the left unit housing gets fogged up, or if there are water droplets on it due to condensation or humidity (from changing temperatures or sweat, for example), the Wearing Detection function may not work properly. If this happens, leave the proximity sensor part facing up until the moisture disappears. Please note that the WH-1000XM5 model is designed to function optimally between the temperatures of 0°C and 40°C (32 °F to 104 °F). Although it can and will function beyond this temperature range, performance may be impaired.
If the connection is unstable, such as when producing only intermittent sound, switch the sound quality mode to Prioritize Stable Connection. If the behavior continues, restore the unit to factory default. Doing so may resolve the issue. To reset the headphones, follow the steps from the link below.

Not my loudest pair of headphones, but definitely the best I've owned. Battery life is ridiculously good; I once used them for about eight hours a day, for threes days before needing to charge them. The headphones are still pretty new, so the battery is fresh, but I couldn’t believe it and this is around my tenth pair of over the ear headphones. A couple of cons are; sometimes I hear static when I’m near a passing train ( near as in waiting for the train on the platform), and I sometimes like to place the headphones above my ears while I listen so that I can hear the sounds around me as well as the music. The headphones with recognize that they are not on my ears and go into sleep mode ( I could easily fix this in the app). All and all, I give them a 9.5/10

10/10 Amazing

I love these headphones. I've gone through a few looking for the right thing, these are it. Sound quality is great and perfect with some EQ work. Transparency mode is surprising quite good. Not airpods good, but still good. I can easyily carry on a conversation while using transparency. They look amazing, especially in white. But of a pale cream white with a slight tint of tan. Looks good. It works on wired mode as well. Noise cancelling is really good and has different modes you can tinker with on the app. It has some features I don't use, like auto transparency when I talk but it's still nice to have sometimes. Battery lasts forever as well. I go days without charging them. Highly highly recommend these if you can afford them as they are a bit pricey.

Noise cancelling is amazing but design has flaws

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do like these headphones kind of… typically I was wearing air pod pros daily until their latest update where the noise cancellation was emphasizing the wrong sounds cause my overstimulation to get worse. I wear headphones to reduce the sound around me or help me focus on familiar things. I decided to switch to Sony over ear because they had great reviews for noise cancelling and phone calls. Both these features are great and I love that you can personal the sound (ie I can’t handle bass or lower tones and I can customize to balance those). The meh: the fit is weird sometimes it feels like it is squishing my head but when I love they fall off. Very annoying for being active or doing things like cleaning. Connectivity is hit and miss and needs improvement. They connect ok to my phone but if I want to use them I have to have the app in order to get them to connect to another device and when you get a call or alarm it does not play through the head phones just stops the sound. This is very frustrating then when you finally find your phone and click answer you have to go in and change the settings to connect to headset for a call. While I like them because they do help when I need noise canceling i do find them buggy.

outstanding, beautiful headset

With that said, I do like the headset. The noise canceling is excellent. The sound is nice, clean and enjoyable, as expected from Sony. I notice that sometimes, it feels warm on my ears after prolonged use (less than two hours). I do love the design. Very modern and classy. It’s light, does not make you feel threatened with headache. I did return it though. The price made me think twice. Also I don’t like that I needed to use Sony app to use it.

The Sony Headphones Connect app is not a requirement to use the headphones, if you change the settings of the headphones using the app, it will keep the settings even without the use of the app unless the headphones are initialized back to default settings.
