As someone who would consider themselves to be an audiofile, I enjoy these headphones for what they are. The ANC performance is second to none (that I have tried). The price is fair, all things considered. When listening to music critically at home, I use Sennheiser HD 600s, which also happen to be $400. Do the WH-1000XM5s sound as good as the HD 600s? Of course not, but the HD 600s need an amp due to their 300 ohm impedance, they block absolutely zero noise, they leak a considerable amount of noise, they're not wireless, etc. Point is, they aren't particularly convenient or portable. If you need a pair of on-the-go headphones, or ones you can wear while moving around the house (vacuuming, cooking, etc.) the WH-1000XM5s are an excellent choice. The battery life, it should be noted as well, is phenomenal. The sound, while not as good as their wired, open-backed competitors in the same price bracket, is still very good. I found some EQ-ing to be necessary, as they were too bass forward out of the box, however the phone app makes EQ-ing them easy, so no complaints there. Given the excellent ANC and convenience of these headphones, the quality of the sound is appropriate for the price point. I have seen others complain of the "cheap feel" of these headphones, likely referencing the plastic construction and light weight. It seems to me to be an unwarranted criticism, as the ABS they are made of can doubtless withstand far more abuse than I - or any average consumer - will ever put them through and, as it turns out, low weight is desirable for something that's going to be sitting on your head for potentially hours at a time. I would certainly not want these headphones to be made out of metal. On a unique side note, my head - and by extension my ears - are incapable of sweating, so I wear these to the gym since I don't need to worry about the lack of a waterproof rating. They block out the loud ambient noise of the gym exceptionally well.

I love designs that look sleek and minimal like the Microsoft ones so it was a no brainer when the best anc headphones was redesigned in a similar manner. Sound quality is superb, clean and punchy bass, best for any type of listening. ANC is second to none, cant't wait to try it on a plane trip coming up. Comfort is the best. The earcups cushion are crazy nice and they don't clamp too hard or cause pain even after prolonged listening. The white one feels Abit light but in a very good way. It's almost like soft cardboard, with its own unique elegance

Ended up exchanging my Apple AirPod Max's for these and man was it worth it. There is no denying that Apple headphones are built impeccably, however after two days of wear I just couldn't get over how heavy they were. I was getting a headache after like an hour of wearing them. I had previously done extensive research on both sets of headphones but ultimately chose Apple for the name and design but for the price point, I just couldn't get over how uncomfortable I found them to be. Once I exchanged them for the Sony XM5s, it was like night and day. I can wear these for hours on end they are so comfortable. I noticed no difference in sound, or noise cancellation in comparison to Apples. The only real difference I noticed was that Apple's transparency mode is def a little stronger, but that was not super important to me. Sure the Sony-XM5s are not built quite as sturdy as Apples, but they are so much more comfortable for long wear, way more customizable in my opinion, and cheaper! The battery life also lasts much longer than Apples. Truly worth the investment in my opinion.

Great headphones. I love the sound quality & how comfortable they are to wear (even when I have my glasses on!) The app is very cool to use and allows you to customize your listening experience which is super helpful. The battery is incredible. I only have to charge it for a little while and The only reason it’s 4 stars rather than 5 is because the volume doesn’t get as loud as I would like it to.

They don't beat a Sennheiser wired headphone, but for a wireless set, they have excellent sound quality, good battery life, amazing extra features (like the ability to make adjustments with finger touches on the outside casing) and are very comfortable. They have never lost a connection with my phone, and do a good job in both ambient sound mode and with noise cancellation. My two quibble with these headphones are that in terms of noise cancellation, they are not as good as Bose headsets that I have had in the past, and that for what you get from Sony, they are actually a little pricey. I have an earbud set (off-brand) that gets you most of these features for 1/3 the price, The WH-1000XM5 also has a wired mode, that I have never needed or tried, but it's cool that it's there. The zippered carry case come with the set, and it's nice for use inside backpacks or suitcases, but won't hold up by itself for heavy travel. You will appreciate the quality level of the build and they have been decent at the gym as long as you aren't kickboxing or turning upside down a lot. Overall, worth getting if you need an over the ear set, but not if you just need a basic wireless headset.

The sound is great for pair of bluetooth headphones! Of course you have to tweek the EQ settings for best results in the Sony Connect app! I love the touch controls, so much easier than finding the buttons on other headphones. There are some buttons on the xm5, a power and a noise cancelling/ ambient button. It has great call quality. The battery last a long time. I get exactly what they said, about 30 hours of battery life. They fit nicely and are comfortable. I do think durability might be an issue if you dont keep good care of them. They do NOT fold up! The headphones come with a case and wire and charging cable. These really do sound better than the xm4s which i also have and the Noise cancelling is better as well. I also want to say, if you listen through the wire it might sound terrible unless you power them on while you listen. You can still use noise cancelling and the battery will last longer if you do it that way instead of normal bluetooth usage!

I'm a big fan of the Sony WH-1000 series of over-the-ear headphones. I have XM5 and XM3. My husband took my XM3 after I got the XM5. Love the feel of them much more than other headphones -- super-comfortable and easy to wear for a long time at work. I wear mine for music, noise cancelling, and online meeting. The only issue, if my co-worker who sits next to me is also on the exact same online meeting with her wireless headphones at the same time, the Sony gets some feedback. I take them off wireless and plug in if that happens and the issue is gone. It happens rarely enough that it's not a dealbreaker. I've tried Bose before, and these are so much better and more comfortable, so I'm pretty to committed to the Sonys. One annoyance: Best Buy sent Navy instead of silver, but maybe it was for the best as the Navy is a cool color and probably doesn't show dirt like a Silver would have.

I have the older version i.e. M4 and thoroughly enjoyed it until it lost it in a travel. M5 has outstanding the audio quality and noise cancellation. The device feels light and soft on ears. Also the controls are easy to use. clear tunes and good bass. I would definitely recommend it. Only con is, its over priced. I would have waited for sale given holidays are just around the corner. :-)

I was looking for great noise canceling headphones and at first bought Beats. However, I got bad ones and they didn't work. But I realized I didn't like the way they felt on my head and researched more. I found these and I really like them. They are very comfortable. They help me considerate when working. They last VERY long! Probably the longest out there. I love watching movies in my bedroom with them on. They come with an app where you can adjust things the way you like them. I had to figure out how to stop them from cutting off when I was singing because it thought I was talking to someone lol also I like how you can have it connect to multiple devices at once. So I can switch between my imac and iphone when I need to. Calls are great on them. They don't always switch over but everyone can hear me clearly and the calls are clear. I highly recommend. My only suggestion is MAKE SOME PINK ONES! hahaha no seriously, get them you wont be disappointed.

To be honest not a major jump from the xm4s but I do like the overall design better and some say the comfort is worse on these in my honest opinion they’re just as comfortable if not better. Did notice some improvement with Noise cancellation and transparency mode. Note you can’t fold the 5s but for me was no biggie because they feel a lot more sturdy than the previous generation

Great sound and noise cancellation. They pair well with Apple devices and android/PC which is ultimately why I got them, bc this one chick in my office is so incredibly loud when she’s on virtual meetings. I can still hear her, but it’s not as distracting. I do like how they are very light and comfortable. The sound and noise cancellation is comparable to the AirMax pros that my husband owns. These are much lighter. Downside is the case is rather bulky, but the AirMax pros only come with a bra-like case, LOL, and they are quite heavier. I do with the case was more hardshell. Right now the case is a canvas covered cardboard like material. If you need compact for frequent travel go with the Beats overear, otherwise, you can’t really beat these. Battery seems to last forever in between maybe an hour of listening.

comfortable headphones - I have glasses and I cannot have the headphones too tight. These stay on nicely and don't feel like they will damage my glasses. sound quality - is excellent. I've got a music service that these headphones can take advantage of for better sound. battery life - haven't really tested this. Although they have lasted all day while I travel. style - i like the simplistic design on the headphones and the color does stand out a bit, but i don't want to forget it anywhere so I need it to be different. wireless - Bluetooth is really good on these cans. I love being able to walk around the house and not worry about dropouts.

Best headphones ever! Perfect for bass, and noise cancellation & I love the app! They fit so perfectly & comfortably!!! Battery last long! My ears don’t hurt & comfortable nicely on my head.

By far the best sounding headphones I’ve ever owned, listen to your favorite song and there’ll be instruments and subtle sounds you never noticed before. The battery lasts for days and days. Microphones are excellent for calls. The lack of lag is magical on wireless headphones, similiar to Logitech’s lightspeed headphones but without a big extruding usb dongle. The materials are so soft and comfortable. The noise cancelling is unmatched. They’re expensive but you get what you pay for on every level, these are the best consumer headphones money can buy and the last pair you’ll ever need to buy.

Oh my.... These are the best pair of wireless headphones I've owned. I was daily driving the wf-1000xm4 ear buds. But my ears get fatigued pretty easily. I decided I would get a pair of headphones to switch it up. Since I liked the features that came with the Sony xm4 ear buds, I thought I'd give the WH-1000xm5 a try. I've only had it for less than a week but I have become obsessed with them to the point where I spend most of my day wearing them. Sound quality is pretty nice, The ANC works nicely, The touch features are pretty cool, and The battery lasts ridiculously long. So as far as cons go, I can say that The touch feature can get annoying if you're just adjusting the headset. It doesn't annoy me too much but if it did the touch feature can always be turned off with the app. Other issues I have are software related, which are not deal breakers when considering the overwhelming positives.

Absolutely worth it! I bought these headphones to help me study in working spaces and for working out. They block out noise really well and the battery life is seemingly everlasting. The charge time to full power is super quick as well. I can wear these headphones for hours at a time without feeling uncomfortable. The touch functions on the side of the right earphone are easy to use, and it's really helpful to be able to switch between transparency mode and noise-cancelling mode with a touch of a button on the headphones too. The noise quality is great as well.

This is after using a few times. These are the best headphones I've used, but the last headphones I had were the first Beats Solo in 2009 then I had a Razer gaming headset. It's very comfortable and light. Sound quality is wonderful, good bass and clear audio. It's one of the most stylish headphones, Sony has nailed the minimalistic design. The versatility is great from using wirelessly or wired with different devices whether it's for gaming, music, movies and surfing the web. Wished I was able to wear it to the gym. If you can afford it, stop thinking about it and just get it.

These headphones are really nice, i can’t compare them to others bc i usually have airpods. I would say the noise cancellation is high quality, and they are also comfortable, i do feel a bit of a headache if i leave them on for too long bc they are a little heavy. Recently it has been turning off my sound cancelling which was really annoying but it’s a click of a button to fix and maybe i have something in the settings that makes it do that. I’d recommend them but only if ur willing to spend the hefty $400+tax price. The sound is amazing, and you can get the app which allows you to change how you hear the music, more bass etc.. but listening to the 4’s in store they sound similar, the 5’s are just a bit crisper and i like the look of them more. Also I have charged them once in like mid sept (posting 10/6) and the battery is amazing i think i’m at 40%. the case is a little bulky but i don’t mind bc it still fits in my bag

I use the XM5 for both my Windows Laptop and iPhone. It's amazing! The fact these headphones have 30 hours' worth of battery life, and customizable EQ settings (they only apply to my iPhone) make this worth my $400. Yes you can use the XM5 with Windows. I have not experienced any audio/visual delay during use. You can configure the headphone properties in Sound settings, and enable bass boost if you like. From what I can hear, the EQ settings I configure with the Sony Headphones only apply to my phone, not my laptop. Nonetheless, if you set them right, you can make one of the best listening experiences possible. For loud work (i.e. vacuuming the house), they do an excellent job cancelling noise. The case is stylish and easy to use. Unfortunately these headphones don't fold like their predecessor. Overall, this product is awesome. I'm glad I bought it.
