A proper upgrade

Love the sound quality. The noise canceling works great for me and I love there’s an ambient sound mode for when I need to pay attention to my surroundings. The headphones also have an app for complete customization and even includes customizing sound based on the way you wear them. Definitely recommend. My only very slight con is that they are sensitive to certain sounds and movements and I need to take a look at how to turn off the chimes because I prefer uninterrupted listening. Other than that, a great purchase.

I am a medical student and using these to study were amazing. But the build quality isn’t the best. I ended up returning them and buying AirPod maxs instead.

Months later, I'm still extremely satisfied with my purchase and feel like I could not have done better if I had gone for the Airpods Max (even though I have an iPhone to sync them to). Syncing with my phone was still super simple and the app that Sony uses for their XM5's is very easy to use and has tons of different options for adjusting your audio experience. Highly recommend and I feel like theres no better pair in this price range, whether you're a casual listener or an audiophile.

Love the Sony XM5

For a very brief moment when I put them on I feel a slight discomfort on the top of my head, but then its perfect. No more discomfort. Just did 45 min on treadmill and they are amazing. Sound quality is great, phone quality is very good. I prefer these over the Bose due mostly to the call quality.

It’s great to hear how much you appreciate the new lightweight design—that's a huge win for long sessions, especially for workouts where comfort and reduced bulk are key!
And you've absolutely nailed a key point about the controls. It's frustrating when a core feature like Noise Cancellation requires you to dig into an app instead of being instantly available on your phone's audio dashboard. Just to make sure you know, you can bypass the app for the basic NC/Ambient switch! There's a dedicated NC/AMB button on the top of the left earcup—Pressing that button will quickly cycle between: Noise Cancelling ON, Ambient Sound Mode (where you hear surroundings) and Noise Cancelling OFF (if you've enabled that setting in the app).
Hopefully, using that physical button makes those mid-workout adjustments much faster for you!
