I’m able to wear them for an extended period of time without much discomfort on my head. My only issue is sometimes they will lose connection for no reason and I have to reconnect on my iPhone which can be annoying.

ANC is disappointing

First thing I noticed was they are super light weight! Once I got them connected to my iPhone the sound is fantastic, battery life is superb too! My biggest disappointment with these cans is the ANC! I took these on a flight today from Indianapolis to Las Vegas so I was on the plane for 4 hours just to find out these lack the ANC other headphones such as the airpod pro max and the Bose 700 offer. I own the AirPods max and have used a pair of Bose 700 extensively, especially on flights so hearing how the new Sony’s performed was very disappointing. If the AirPods max block out 95% of the noise I would say the Sony’s are 70%. It’s hard to explain but if you fly a lot then expect to be disappointed. You can obviously judge for yourself but after I got back in to town I drove to Best Buy just to take them back. ANC is a huge plus for me when I buy headphones, especially for the price that Sony is charging for them I want them to perform the way I expect. Apple is still the king of ANC and it’s by a mile, once again if you don’t believe me give it a try and you’ll see for yourself. I really have no idea how the reviews on YouTube are saying they’re that much better cause they’re not. If ANC isn’t a big deal for you then the weight, battery life, soundstage and look of the headphones are definitely superb! On another note the ambient mode is better than the XM4’s and the Bose 700 but fall to the AirPods max. Also I need to add the connectivity is great for an android but it’s not going to come close to how apple connects with the air pods max. Yes there is the price difference between the two but like they said, “You get what you pay for”

The design is very simple and clean regardless of the three colors sony is selling. The audio quality is very crisp with the large drivers it has and has amazing bass. The main key features i love about the XM5’s is the fast and responsive bluetooth connectivity and the sony headphone app for a more personalized experience to change how immersive the audio quality can be. The touch controls are also great and can also be customized. Everyone now a days seems to be turning to headphones the come with ANC (active noise cancelling) these headphones do not disappoint and its almost impossible to hear any pass through or external noise from loud environment. Can barely hear my spouse when she yells my name for something. These headphones are great for workouts, Gaming, or just about any activity for your needs. These are a 10/10

Sony has the best sound and the noise canceling is off the charts. I have purchased sony headphones in the past and they (speaking on my behalf with the product) have a long life capacity. The negative about these headphones and only negative is that the over the head band is a bit flimsy and fragile unless you don’t man-handle when adjusting to the shape of your head when you put them on. They tend to move around a bit when you look downwards. Best bet is to wear a hat and then put the headphones over them to make sure that they are steady.

A fine upgrade from the XM3s with some caveats

Not fond of the disconnections that tend to happen occasionally in the background, but I can tolerate it given the value of being able to stay connected to mobile and PC and swap between the two. I would only say that the mobile app can be slow to start up, and there's no alternative way to manage the connections outside this app that I know of.

Missing the noise cancellation slider

Love the new touch controls and the minimalist profile altogether. Only thing I miss is the noise cancellation slider in the app. Liked being able to adjust that to a personal preference. The adaptive noise cancellation is fine though. The spatial audio and genral sound quality imporvements make it a worthy sacrifice.

Comes in a wide range of colors and has been rated by many as the best in class. Highly recommend for long trips, cheaper then iPhone pro max, great battery life, and most importantly every stylish. This is definitely a great gift without breaking the bank with other premium headphones in the same space. The case covers and protects the whole ear phones. So far no negative issues as she has already used it for over 2 months since Christmas.

outstanding, beautiful headset

With that said, I do like the headset. The noise canceling is excellent. The sound is nice, clean and enjoyable, as expected from Sony. I notice that sometimes, it feels warm on my ears after prolonged use (less than two hours). I do love the design. Very modern and classy. It’s light, does not make you feel threatened with headache. I did return it though. The price made me think twice. Also I don’t like that I needed to use Sony app to use it.

The Sony Headphones Connect app is not a requirement to use the headphones, if you change the settings of the headphones using the app, it will keep the settings even without the use of the app unless the headphones are initialized back to default settings. I loved the sound quality and noise cancellation, but as a glasses wearer my head would start hurting if I wore them for too long. I then turned to Bose’s QuietComfort but ended up returning them immediately because the sound quality and noise cancellation just didn’t match Sonys. So I decided to try the XM5s and they are truly the best headphones I’ve had. As comfortable if not more so than the Bose headphones, but with a far superior sound quality and noise cancellation. (So if you’re on the fence between the Bose and the Sony, go with the Sony!) My only very nitpicky complaint is that the microphone only works via Bluetooth, so if you’re using these headphones wired the microphone won’t work. Although this is probably not an issue for most people. And while some people don’t like that they don’t fold up I don’t mind and think the non-folding structure probably helps them feel more comfortable.

Please be advised that the microphone function of the headphones is disabled when using the supplied cable. Use the mic of your source device. These can be used with glasses. The WH-1000XM5 fits snugly around your ears. Unfortunately, they don't fold as they do in the XM4. For comfort, try adjusting the headband and the earpads properly.
