Amazing bass and good noise cancelling, however not better than the Air Pods Max noise cancelling in my opinion.

While the battery life remains impressive and the sound quality is still great, the noise cancelling feature is inconsistent. There are times when it feels too weak, and unfortunately, there's no way to adjust it to match its initial performance. The touch controls are more reliable compared to the XM4, but they tend to be overly sensitive. Honestly, considering my XM4 failed after just a year and the buggy experience these headphones offer, I'm likely to switch to Bose when these eventually give out.

Cleaner on the low end brings out more detail in the mids and highs. I had moments of "wow...I never heard that before"...and this is coming from the xm4. I won't say it's massively different than the xm4 (I use the bright eq setting) but it's there. Noise cancelling is impressive. Give it about 2 or 3 seconds to adapt to your surroundings and just listen to the quiet kick in. It's pretty cool. I tested it out with a vacuum cleaner running right next to me. At first the xm4s are full on so you might be fooled in thinking that the 5s are worse but let the xm5s adapt and kick in. Once you do you'll be blown away. Larger case and no fold in doesn't bother me. The case is longer but it's also thinner. All in all I'm happy with these. An IP rating would have been nice but at this point and outside of that I'm not sure how you can make these any better. The 6's will have big shoes to fill.

It costs $100 more and have been able to compare in store it depends on concern with sound or noice cancellation. Best buy had this model and sell for $299 and even looked for a price without me asking. The manager, Keith, is really a super person. He told mechechas been at Best Buy for 17 years. I haveckbown him for 12 years, since day I moved back to Gainesville Store. I check online, but purchased most of items at this store I was cocerned with both. My opinion this model is better than the new Bose.

Best Headphones Ever, just wish water resistant

I didn't think they were coming until August. My Bose 700 were stolen and so I wound up getting these and have to say, the Sony are better in sound isolation, sound quality using Tidal (3d audio, eq) and they cancel out everything! The hand over the right ear to amplify the outside world for you hear is an amazing touch. I use these for remote working all over town. I'm always in my headphones but can let in people as I want. A blessing for my social anxiety. The only spot that Bose has these beat is on the device switching. This may be a familiarity thing at this point. TBD

Great Headphones - Great Musicality and Great NC!

Later in the year, I will be transitioning to a noisy open cubicle floorplan, and that is why I bought this noise cancelling headphones. So far I am very impressed with the high quality musicality of the headphones, as well as the noise cancelling capabilities; my last corded NC headset was nowhere close to either in capabilities, but was fantastic at the time I bought them. This Sony headset has set the bar even higher! I now use them almost every workday, and some weekend days, just because they are so good. I highly recommend them to anyone, especially anyone using an Android phone.
