The plane ride was long, but the Sony headphones made it an extremely pleasurable trip. The noise canceling is amazing, along with full range, sound, and deep bass.

E.g., After a story I was listening to finished, I couldn't get anything else to play. I'm hoping I can figure out how to prevent this sort of thing.

ANC strength option needs to be added in update

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.After 3+ weeks with the XM5's, it would seem like the Noise Cancelling has a *"high"* and a *normal* mode based on the Noise cancelling auto optimizer **(not talking about adaptive sound control)**. The *normal* mode is what it sounds like most of the time. The *"high"* mode only seems to come on when the outside volume passes over a certain threshold. Try this. Get the xm5s and put them on and take note of what you can hear in the normal mode. Then, play some loud sound or put your head right up against running water or something loud and continuous. You'll notice the sound profile changes and the outside noise is reduced even further. You might even feel pressure on your ears/ that plugged up feeling. I really don't like not having full control over the ANC. I'd wish that the software team could give us more settings to control how strong we want the ANC to be at any given moment in addition to what we already have.

You have to take the time to tailor the experience to how you want to experience sound with the companion app. In terms of build it is aesthetically pleasing but smudges easily. The cupping around the ears is also prone to become wet from sweat.

Did not have the earlier version so I can’t compare however these headphones are comfortable and extremely quiet on planes where I use them the most. Walked down a busy street during rush hour. All I heard was my music. I am worried about the material in regards to the cushion. Sweating while walking can damage them so try and keep them dry. Super lightweight, great noise cancellation, and solid price for what you get. Unfortunately, my job is near an antenna and due to this, I am picking up a rock radio station. I believe this may be due to lower quality components in the headphones which is disappointing. I can turn in my office chair and the clarity adjusts from the radio station. It really is disappointing because I purchased these headphones because I heard such positive reviews about the noise cancellation. I can’t listen to music or block out noise without hearing,” Every rose has its thorn” in my right ear. I’m sure anyone who is not working or living by an antenna can benefit from these great headphones. However, due to (assumingely) lower quality parts and the inability to even use the features it’s meant to offer; I cannot recommend this product. Just to add, I have used other headphones from different brands and no issues similar to this. I have tried resetting it to factory and no changes.

If the effect of noise canceling is not sufficient, please try the following:
Make sure the noise canceling function is turned on.
Adjust the headset into a comfortable position.
The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
When the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app is turned on, the wearer's actions, like walking or running, are detected. The noise canceling function is automatically adjusted and the Ambient Sound Mode may be activated according to these actions.
To make the most of the noise canceling function, turn off the Adaptive Sound Control, and try to turn on the noise canceling function manually when you need it.
